I've thought about your question a lot lately. "If games are so horrible to you now, what are they supposed to be instead?" My own personal response is that there are much aspects to games which haven't evolved in how they play.
Example. Fighters. In 1992, a game like Street Fighter 2 was mindblowing because there wasn't anything quite like it before in many ways - control, presentation, and so on. 25 years later, there's much less of a gap between the mechanics from SF2 to SF5 than there was from SF1 to SF2. People still get swept and land on their ass from a roundhouse ground kick and stay there for a few seconds, bringing the pace of the fight to a grinding halt each time. Life bars function the same and someone can get jabbed 50 times to death. Things like this were relatively acceptable decades ago, but need to be adjusted or other rules around these things need to be adjusted so they don't stick out so sorely now.

Basically this game tells the story of the Sleeping Zelda (Big Eyebrows) and how Ganon was revived for the last time. Probably somebody (unknown) destroyed the containment field during the Oracle games, or his dark power leaked in the real world.

Only game I can really think of is STALKER, but that's mostly Russian regardless and it's more so that I just don't give a shit if a mod puts Russian voices in. Even most jap games I play have good dubs (if they're not just designed around the english version like MGS supposedly is) and take place in western settings as well.
