Is the next generation console meme dead? If we ever do get an Xbox 4 or Playstation 5, they will either be prohibitively expensive or the differences from the current gen machines will be so subtle that no-one will notice. XboneX is $500 but there's nothing close to a generational leap about the games it runs. You can blame that on software being held back by the original Xbone (which needs to run the same games), but it raises the question of why the system needs to cost $500 or why it even needs to exist at all. Only people with 4K televisions will be able to take full advantage of its advertised features, and developers won't even be able to fully ultilize the hardware in ways that will be meaningful to anyone else.
Basically, if the Xbox One X is the best they can do for $500 using all the latest state-of-the-art tech, then the next generation of consoles is in trouble.

Why is it that games nowadays has to focus on realism and diversity quotas with stories that reminds us of the kind of world we live in?
Do people no longer read the GAME in videoGAME? What happened to being a form of escapism, to calm stress and just have fun?
As far as I see, japanese developers are the only ones who care about the fun part while western only focus on forcing quotas
