I imagine they're taking a page out of Sony's playbook by looking at the PS3's success as a blu-ray media player and that's why the Xbox One S and Scorpio both have 4K Blu-Ray support unlike the PS4 Pro.

I played the compilation and thought it was all terrible yet saw and still see people giving it high praise. That's when I knew I wasn't the target audience any more, and I can live with that. In the end the original will be its own thing again and this remake can be the new canon along with Crisis Core and all that garbage.

I'm not because I think FF7 sucks ass, and I want nothing to do with it in any flavor. On the other hand there's a faint sort of optimism, because as bad as the original was there's a lot of room for improvement and maybe they'll scrounge up enough of it to redeem the game to some degree.
