As a complete PCfag through and through, even I have to concur that some JRPGS have interesting design and/or mechanics which I rarely see on PC. For instance, Saga Frontier. Phantasy Star 4, Dragon Quest V, some Final Fantasies (Tactics, 12), Rune Factory series, Dragon’s Dogma.
One might argue that some great titles were influenced by JRPGs (Anachronox, Planet Escape Tournament [fight me]), and that other JRPGs spiritually continued (or attempted to) Western ideas while Western industry abandoned them (dungeon crawlers, most notably – see Elminage: Gothic, new Wizardry titles, Code Hazard, even Etryan Odyssey).

Had some great games that it managed to build its own unique identity with, but the two screen gimmick was still shit. The best thing I can say about it is it ruined very few games, but it never improved a single game and was a minor annoyance for several.

With that said I got my monies worth. A lot of great exclusives on the wii u. 3D World was great, no matter what the shitposters said.

I'm much more optimistic on the switch. Seems to be building the same quality of exclusives as the Wii U but with a form factor I actually like.

Idk. Discipline and indulgence have been opppsed aspects of the human experience since long before contemporary politics took shape.

I would say it might have something to do with the nationalist surge in Japan, but this is literally an old game's story redone, and I don't know if that's applicable.

It seems to map onto conservative and liberal in the contemporary American context in that one side is [red] and kind of more militant, and the other is [blue] and vaguely artisitic?

All in all, it's a bit shallow to be allegorical, but I see what you mean.
