I just picked SOMA up. What am I in for in terms of exploration and freedom?

It's a walking simulator with stealth mechanics. The walking simulator parts are the best. There was at least one enemy that I really needed to google how to get past him.

What backlash? The microtransactions are cosmetic only just like Overwatch, the player avatars are all customizable, so you only encounter black female Nazis if someone wanted to play as one.

Sledgehammer is doing WW2 perfectly, can't wait till the beta starts on the 25th.

Officially, Mario has no canon. The characters are all actors doing whatever role they need to do for the game. It's why Mario is a happy go lucky adventurer in the platformers and RPGs but gets really serious in sports games. It's why Peach gets kidnapped in most games but still shows a lot of competence in others, mainly the ones where he's playable. It's why Bowser is a snarling monster in platformers, but kind of a goofball on other games. So stuff like the parade at the end of paper Mario, the stage props in SMB3 and Mario adressing the player are all "canon" so to speak.

Also the bloopers from Mario Power Tennis. They're probably the only glance we have at the REAL Mario characters, though it was mostly just Wario, Waluigi and Bowser.

Paris Games Week is in October and Sony is holding a conference there again.

Also the trademark was updated earlier this month.

Game Arts are working to fit in roughly about 32 characters and 24 stages into the game. The demo is almost complete, with the 9 characters for the demo still being balanced out. There's a possibility that we could also be seeing Lammy, Dante and Klonoa in this game. SEGA has still yet to respond about having one of their IP's being represented in this game, but it would likely be a Yakuza character.

he combat seems way more fluid and quick than in the first game, and you're able to pull off some pretty impressive combos.

The art style is actually pretty unified, like sm4sh in a way. Parappa this time actually looks more natural than whatever happened to him in the first game.
