My brother just had to divorce his wife because all she ever did was come home from work and play online video games all night (World of warcraft, Final Fantasy 14). She wouldn't even say a word to him or their daughter and would stay up until 2am every night playing the game then complain the next morning that she's too tired and that MY BROTHER needs to find more work so she doesn't have to work at all and can stay home with their daughter...but he knew that was bullshit, she just wanted to play her stupid games all day. He knows this because that's what she does all weekend. He does everything for their daughter and he's had to talk to her about how her mom is sick and that she still loves her, but honestly he says it's been hard since the mother can go days without saying more than a few words to her girl.
He finally had enough and divorced her today. Won custody in a landslide when it was found the wife couldn't function without her games. In the divorce it was also found out that his wife was lying to him about working, and that she had been fired for over 4 months and was getting a check from her father so she could hide it. He's so happy he's going to be cutting ties with her family forever. She's not even going to get visitation because of her neglectful past.
I just wanted to post this somewhere. Anons, please don't do this to somebody. Games are fun entertainment but don't make them your lives.

It'd be nice if anyone could chime in with some advice with how to deal with this. My brother is trying to be positive but this is a serious blow and he blames most of it on addicting mmos and the assholes who develop them knowing full well what they are. He's upset to say the least. If anything this has been a wake up call for me. I was just wrapping up a 5 hour gaming session when I got the call with the news. Luckily I don't have an SO but I can see how easy it is to fall into a pattern of ignoring people for games.

I want to make games my life because I have nothing else to do. But I can't even get myself to play them most of the time. I just sit on the computer shitposting and watching TV these days. Bought a 3ds and a bunch of games and gonna try to get really into it.
Might also get an arcade stick and try to get good at SFV.

Please justify this genre to me. I cannot understand how anyone in their right mind can consider these games at all, much less enjoy them. They are the most blatant artificial reward treadmills and you'd have to be high, retarded, or autistic not to see this. What joy do you get out performing extremely repetitive tasks, extremely slow and trivial combat, and no actual gameplay outside of rotating through skills in a pattern for hours and hours to inflate your damage/health numbers some more? How is this fun? What can this give you that an actual game or even a fucking movie cannot?
