I played it for 30 mins or so and the gameplay is painful. Does it turn into anything more than Tameem Analdantes rambling at you about his mental problems with Match-A-Pattern games?

Yes, if you like survival games without the multiplayer aspect, its fun now.

I played at release and played about 4 hours out of desperation. Now, there's actually decent graphics and I want to pick up this game and play instead of trying to find reasons to do so.

I liked it when it first came out, but I was so busy with work and shit that I had no concept of how big the hype was or anything. The only real gripe I had was the inventory system. It was largely empty then and it's largely empty now. Solid time waster for >20 dollarydoos, but by no means is it a "good" game. Even if this patch has polished it up, it's still a steaming turd because of the initial design of the game. Nothing will change that.

I just started, its pretty neat. BotW is better imho, more freedom overall, but HZD has better combat. I aint that far in yet tho, so take my word with a grain of salt.

BotW.

Horizon is just...generic. Unremarkable. As expected. And funnily enough, has way cheaper and lazier tech than Zelda, lacking just about any and all environmental interaction and AI feats the BotW has.

I've now clocked 220 hours to Zelda BotW on my WiiU. I've "beaten" the game now twice, but I still find myself exploring the land from time to time.
I do have PS4 Pro in the livingroom as well, but HZD really does not impress me.
