Nah, people hate it for starting a lot of the things that plague the game industry today, like DLC and a focus on tacked on multiplayer modes and open worlds, and the death of AA-developers.

In my personal opinion, in terms of vidya quality, it was a first sign of downfall after the vidya golden age that lasted from the release of the SNES to the release of the 360. Yes, good games released during gen 7, a lot of my favourites actually now that I think about it (like Dark Souls, Bayonetta or Monter Hunter Tri), but it was lacking in terms of number of games that have the potential to become classics.
