Only things that come close are cover-based TPS (Like gears of war) and walking simulators like Gone Home.

Get the two Daud DLCs first, motherfucker. They're excellent and an important bridge between the two games.
And yes, the sequel is just as good and is in fact better in most departments, although it has an even shittier story and the setting is not as cool.

You don't seem to even know what you want yourself, so calm your horses and tell us more.

For starters, what are your goal playing resolution and performance? "Max settings" don't mean really anything, and it's totally different thing to play your games with roughly "High" quality, than to tweak every possible .ini file to crank up the engine's parameters to the absolute maximum.

Some basic 1080p/60fps capable PC would be piss easy and very cheap to build nowadays, as in less than 500 bucks at best. Would allow you to run any couple years or older games with High-Very High settings, no problems.
1440p, the real 4K, or 144hz would be an all new thing of its own, and cost a low more as well. If you're just starting out with PC gaming, I doubt you'll have need for this stuff just yet.

In short, start with a mid-tier PC.
Intel CPU + Nvidia GPU very recommended. Minimum of 8GB of RAM.
I'd go with W7 Ultimate x64, as it can be found for dirt cheap or for FREE, and it does not suffer of the incompatibilities and all the spyware of the Wontworks 10.

Check up Logicalincrements.com and some Youtube videos about "(budget here) gaming PC 2017".
Start looking for best deals on components in your area, and build the PC with them.

No, they raped the translation and removed Party Talk (aka the main and basically only source of your party member dialogues) from the localization since Square Enix didn't give them enough time and money to do the entire game. You want to play the iOS/Android version for that one which is literally just the DS version, but with the Party Talk added back in and fully translated.

5 and 6 are fine on DS.

DQ8 you want on 3DS due to all the new content if you're a story/contentfag, or PS2 if you're a graphicsfag.
If you go with 3DS for 7 and 8, CFW your 3DS and play the Orchestral music restored versions for all of those and Uncensor/Restoration patch for DQ8 as well.

Also there's PS2 version of DQ5 that's pretty sweet and in many ways better than the DS version, the only thing it doesn't have it DS version's new waifu Deborah (which isn't even canon based on Akira Toriyama's official artwork and the official novelization).

Almost every time this happens I ragequit and I don't have a single regret about it.
