Now that the dust has really settled and used copies are getting cheap, regardless of expectations and comparisons to n64 Rareware, how good is it as a standalone platformer?

On its own, no comparisons, I'd say it's a solid 6.5 or 7/10, but I am also a sucker for collectathon platformers. It's on the upper end of meh by modern standards of games, which is the 6-7 range in my opinion. If we were going by how reviewers rate games, it'd be a 4/10.

Too many large, open swaths of map with nothing in them; it's like they took the 'bethesda open world' approach to level design for some stupid reason. If they scaled down the levels by half or thereabouts, it would be a decent game. As it stands, it's OK if you like what it tries to imitate, otherwise, avoid it.
