If you don't like 1, chances are you're not going to like 2. 2's story isn't really connected to 1 but there are still enough references that you might want to beat 1 first.

Bioshock is boring and dull to you because it's a husk of a game.

Play System Shock 2 and see the core they drilled out of the game and replaced with pseudointellectual filler.

There are no upgrades, but there are occasionally items that work like temporary upgrades. Spears are the obvious example, but you'll eventually find things like exploding plants, and worms small enough to carry that summon giant lizards when you abuse them.

The ultimate goal is to find your family, but right now my goal is just to kill one of everything.

easy, in other games it doesn't cost $100 to get anything approaching a complete game + $10 more twice a year as long as the fucking cheapskate devs can cram more extraneous features into it.

I've played 30 something in the last couple years. I'm trying to take a short break for a while (though I'll try to squeeze in the Mario & Luigi series since I've only played SSS) before I dive back into the Trails games. Need to go through the Crossbell games and Cold Steels still.

Well, the rest of the Trails series, SMT: Strange Journey, and the Digital Devil Sagas when I finally get around to them. If we're just talking yet to be released games, then I guess just Dragon Quest XI at the moment.
