Why of all the FF games Square could go all out on, did they choose XV as the one to make a fancy port for? No other FF game has workshop support. Most FF games don't have anything close to the graphics settings available for this one. Why though? What makes XV so special?

I'm a little shocked at the negative reception this game is getting. Having played all the Gundam Vs games, hundreds of hours in the previous Dissidia games, Virtual On, Anarchy Reigns, etc.. I've played a lot of these arena fighters .
The previous Dissidia games were great for FF fans. The visuals were excellent, the voice acting was memorable (just by me saying Jecht you know a bunch of his lines just flashed through your head), and there was tons of content. It was flashy and entertaining, but as a game you play against others it was flawed and plagued by some really really negative matchups. And since it was 1v1, everyone in the end of the day was a fighter even tanks or healers.
I think this is definitely a step forward. The roster got huge by 012 Dissidia so having 3v3 allows for more characters to be seen. The team aspect of the game also allows for characters like Y'shtola, who is primarily focused on interrupting opponents, playing keep away, healing allies, and debuffing enemies. The relationship between agile melee characters like Zidane and casters like Terra feel much more engaging now because you are thinking about it more in the perspective of roles in a fight. A Caster can easily interrupt enemies who are comboing allies, but are vulnerable to being ganged up on.
The large arenas make a lot more sense now too. There is plenty of room to fight and it gives meaning to characters that have combos that travel the opponent a long ways. You can use this to isolate a caster from their teammates, for example. It also punishes players who don't keep their teammates in mind.
I do miss EX Mode and the supers which were awesome, but the summon system here is way better than assists and summons in the previous game. The cinematic is short and it provides a sort of mindgame that punishes players who gang up on one unit.
We know the full game will have customizable movesets too.
