Were there any other class-based shooters to really compete with, not including recent MOBA based stuff like OW? Only one off the top of my head is the Xbox Conker multiplayer, but to say they competed is absurd.

Getting points for completing basic tasks is one of the basic Skinner Box constructs, and Skinner Boxes work better when they provide constant feedback. Devs know that people are more likely to keep playing if they're drip-fed positive reinforcement rather than getting it in bursts. It's not necessarily good game design, but it's good psychology.

In the middle of building bases and doing missions. The update completely broke the mission (build a base then talk to overseer, the construction terminal was not at the base but it wouldnt let me build another one), which affected the main questline and I couldn't progress. I had 90 hours of progress with a nice freighter, loads of units, a really cool ship, and maxed out inventory. At least restarting is kinda fun

Just a quick reminder that it's our fault, the players' fault why the game failed. I admit that Bethesda didn't make Fallout 4 a RPG game, but they made a great action FPS game with RPG elements. I've spent 4 days (96 hours) in the game and I wasn't bored at any point except for the "Portalcraft" puzzle level in Far Harbor.. Surely it wasn't anything like New Vegas, but that game isn't even Bethesda's. Thanks to fans' constant crying about how the game sucks, we may not get another Fallout game... At least not in this decade. I am deeply disappointed in Fallout community. That's all I have to say.

That's a nice bait, the only thing spoiling it is the simple fact that FO4 was a massive commercial and critical success. I don't like it and don't plan on buying it, but I'd be delusional to argue that fact. The majority don't give a shit about bad writing or dilution of RPG elements.

Yeah, I played the PC port.
It was fun, but honestly pretty underwhelming after Bayo. I expected some crazy gunfu gameplay. But despite being a Platinum cover shooter it's still a cover shooter. The core gameplay was similar to FEAR but in third person, but the game was really short and enemy variety was rather poor. The level design also was pretty generic and unmemorable.I enjoyed Gears of War more.
