They both have their strengths. I would say without the lens of nostalgia, and not considering anything extraneous like the impact the games have had on the scene, and looking at them from 'if someone played them right now for the first time", hollow knight has more to offer. It's a longer game, has more mechanics, a more involved story, I personally think the art style is more interesting, I would say cave story wins in the music department, and they both do well in the extra character department, but I think hollow knight wins that one too.

I replayed cave story maybe a month ago, and played hollow knight a couple of weeks ago, so that's also my personal opinion.

That said, there's no reason not to enjoy both. They are both fantastic games.

Well I "borrowed" them so we can check them out after this mission is over.

In terms of total library? Yeah it is sent great.

In terms of first party titles? It was good. It has at least 15-20 good to great games.

And it's insanely easily hacked which lets it be a Wii/WiiU/GameCube box so owning one is actually recommended

No, it wasn't. It was just really badly marketed. You can see it by the fact the Switch is pretty much the same thing with more portability and yet it sells. Why? Because of a better marketing campaign.
You can also tell the Wii U wasn't that bad by the fact all Switch owners keep begging for Wii U ports on the console. If the Wii U was really bad, nobody would play its games.

Personally, I love my Wii U. It allows me to play Wii and Wii U games (and soon many others like GC ones when I'll hack it). It was just really badly marketed.
