I'm pretty sure you can carve plates/gems from raths normally, and also from tail carves and face breaks. But yeah, the caps give you better chance than carves. Which actually misleads a lot of hunters into thinking all monsters have better odds dropping their rare mats on cap rather than a kill. Which is usually not true. Especially for monsters like Gore, which only drops its plate as a carve, but never as a cap reward.

I don't know about any of the 3ds games but I'm like 90% sure that plates/gems do not come from normal carves.
Tail carves yes, and I think only the ruby from breaking it's face.

Why do we argue on the matter of PC vs. Consoles, despite the fact that it doesn't really matter?

People who play on consoles likely wouldn't play on PC if consoles didn't exist, and vice versa.

Morality systems that is visible to the player simply don't work, because the player will always try and manipulate it. Although I can't say a hidden one would be that much better either, because it still puts a binary restriction on the player's choices.
Why confine moral dilemmas to a system at all? The best option is to just write quests in the way that would offer the player the most choices.
Simple action-consequence is a much more elegant and powerful system, than any kind of binary good-evil or lawful-chaotic system a video game can implement.
