Cautious after Wii U. Even though it was marketed great, they still couldn't be certain of how it would sell in the long run. Only now are they seeing it's a success.

I haven't played MGO2 because didn't have a PS3 at the time, but had fun with MGO3 when I managed to find people who don't play like CoD shitters. It doesn't seem do get much love here, though.

It's a horrible time to collect games. Hipsters have basically made retro games super popular, and a lot of assholes started buying everything, just to sell at ridiculous prices. It's become like the real-estate market.
I started collecting about 5 years ago, a year or two before that shitstorm. It sucks, because I really enjoyed getting up at 6am to go to garage sales and wondering what I could find. Now those assholes just get there even earlier, buy everything, then sell it on the same fucking sale for at least five times the price.
What's this? I have no idea, but it has mario on the cover, so 50 bucks is the best I can do.

tl;dr if you just want to play retro games, a retroPi does the job just as good. If you want to collect physical copies, prepare to spend a lot

Personally, I never owned N64 back in the days, I was a pure Sony-kid until around 2010, when I got my first "real" PC and got to play my bud's old N64 as well. Mario 64 and Ocarina were the first two games I played on it, and I can tell ya that they're totally worth all their praise. Great atmospheres, good gameplay, and I can only imagine what kind of technological marvels they must've been day 1.

It took me a bit longer to "get into" Majora's, because of the kinda stressful time limit. However, once I did push through the starting phase and realized that time ain't really restricted per-se, I started enjoying it a great deal as well. It's quite like a tad more HC "expansion pack" to Ocarina, a direct sequel that uses lots of familiar looking elements of it, but remixes and adds lots of things to make the overall experience if not tougher, at least notably more emotional.

Someone posted this NextGen magazine's 1998 issue's scans some time ago on /v/, and I think it encapsulates the era's feel pretty well. MGS was one of my childhood's incredible, almost messiah games, and it's clear that Ocarina was the same for the Nintendo folk's. Pretty amazing year now that I think about it, as we also got Half-Life and Resident Evil 2 the same time!
