First thing's first; I don't care if you don't believe me. My information comes from a very credible source who has worked for SE for a number of years after securing an apprenticeship and subsequently being offered a permanent role (been there for circa 10 years, having operated primarily out of the Wimbledon offices before moving into their central London location).

I'm not willing to disclose what his area of expertise is or what titles he has worked on previously, as I'd not want to risk doxxing him.

FF7R is basically not going to happen, according to what he's told me. This isn't secret information internally either, it's fairly common knowledge. Not only are they lacking in the manpower to complete the project, internally there have been significant conflicting opinions about the way it should be worked and as it stands the project is on a standstill, and has been for over a year.

The episodic nature of the release was meant to alleviate financial issues in getting the project done properly and was apparently agreed by all parties it was the best way to market, however in the actual scheme of things it's created a number of issues - most notably that to produce the continuation of your character in the next episodes is technically very challenging.

The general consensus is that it isn't coming out. SE are hoping that if they can produce other fantastic titles in the meantime then it'll take the edge off the news of them having to pull the plug; which is what all resources are being funnelled into now.

Personally I'm disappointed, but I'd rather the legacy wasn't destroyed by a broken remake.

They should have partnered with Nintendo to produce a more faithful adaptation of the original game for the DS hardware, that would have absolutely printed money for them.

FF7 in particular is basically an anime video game with incredibly accessible pseudo turn based combat. Wasting a shit ton of money chasing after realistic visuals and real time gameplay was never going to produce good results. They could have thrown together something that looks like the much less expensive to produce 'Tales of' series and had it out years ago.

But Four is my favorite. So much that I kept obsessing over trying to come up with ways to make her look "good". Like one of the ideas involved her disappearing for a long time where she tempered her attitude a bit more but kept coming up with the loophole about sex keeping her sanity, and the other one of Zero not being able to find her for a long time to eliminate her. She still died by Zero's blade in this idea but the way she died looked both cooler and more bittersweet in my mind.
It didn't match Taro's more cynically comical perspective either, so eventually I just dropped the whole thing. I never bothered to share these ideas either because of the loopholes.

I have no idea what I'm doing.
So I downloaded this, but I know fuck-all about ROMs. I'm guessing I need an emulator to run .gen files. Is Emuparadise a legit site? And do I need a Sega Genesis emulator or a S3&K emulator (if that's even a thing)?

Players started realizing that Riot doesn't actually care about balance, just "the meta". If something isn't meta, it's shunned and forgotten by devs and players alike. Unique characters are considered sub-optimal, and playstyles that aren't currently considered meta are lombasted by the community.

Now, fixing this shit? I say, stop piling more crap on top of the game, and just focus on polishing everything that's currently in it. Make more characters viable, focus on the whole cast, not just a few. Right now, the game is pretty much a spinning door of rigid Melee-esque metas, when it could be so much more expansive than that.
