The west typically doesn't have the same weird fetishization of cute things that Japan does.
So western devs tend to focus on realism and grit (Since movies are so full of it and games don't seem to realise that it is it's own medium and doesn't have to copy movies)

Why do redditors like letting everyone know they are redditors so much?

There are some games which basically only exist thanks to Reddit. Their subreddit becomes an extension of the official forums, if not it entirely. They should be fools to ignore it.
