Hi /v/. I'm making a game and I need some help. I'm experimenting if it’s possible to make TDU-like racing game with huge open world with optional VR support for mobile (Android and maybe IOS in the future). Now I need some data about performance on different smartphones and a I’m not able to do it myself, so it would be great if you could test it for me.
Game already contains over 700 square kilometers (430 square miles) of drivable terrain based on real world location, so it's probably about as much as all three Forza Hirizons combined. Remember, it’s only a very, very early prototype meant for landscape performance testing. Map is still almost empty and there’s not really much of a ‘game’ in it.
This build is made to benchmark your phone, so expect rather poor performance. Especially the Dense Forest and places with good view over the town with dynamic shadows and VR mode enabled should result with low framerate even on flagship phones.
I’ll be grateful if you write in this thread about performance on your device, or send it to me to the temporary email address: [email protected] . Report should contain:
-Smartphone model (if your model has several variants – ie. Samsung Galaxy G5 may use Snapdragon or Exynos CPU- I’d appreciate if you specify which one was used)
-Android version
-Which version of the game was tested (it would be great if you try every version compatible with your device)
-Average, highest and lowest FPS at different settings
-FPS after 10-15 minutes of playing

Recommended minimal requirements (for 1080p screens, since game runs at native resolution, at lower resolution it may work well on weaker CPUs):
-Android 5.0 Lollipop ot higher.
- ~2 GB of free space on your phone.
-If you want to use VR you should install Cardboard app (or Daydream if you have Android N) and configure it for your goggles using QR code.
-For normal gaming: Snapdragon 800 or equivalent. Among medium-class models Snapdragon 625 or equivalent should be enough.
Exemplary phones: Samsung Galaxy S5, Meizu MX4, LG G3
-For VR gaming: Snapdragon 810 or equivalent.
Exemplary phones: Samsung Galaxy S6, Sony Xperia Z4, OnePlus 2
-For VR with dynamic shadows: newest flagships.
-IOS support possible in the future! Probably it’ll require at last Apple A7 CPU.
Note: VR works even on weaker phones, bu you can’t expect decent framerates.
Since you can’t use your screen when using VR goggles, for VR you need Bluetooth controller with gaming mode support, at last like one on pic or better.

I made several builds to track performance at different feature levels. You should pick right build for your phone:
-32-bit OpenGL ES 2.0-3.0 – base build, should work pretty much on any compatible device. If you don’t know which build should you choose, start with this one.
-64-bit OpenGL ES 3.1 – for newer phones, like those recommended for VR
-64-bit Vulkan – for newest phones, requires OpenGL ES 3.1-compatible graphics and Android 7.0 Nougat. I should mention that Epic Games describes Vulkan support as experimental, so be aware: it may potentially crash, hang, eat your kittens, reveal your browsing history. You’ve been warned.

-Copy everything to your phone. Enable installing apps from unknown sources in Android security settings.
-Move folder com.zzz.OpenWoldRacing to /Android/obb/ on your phone.
-Install .apk package as usual.
-Pair your Bluetooth controller if you want to use it.
-Start the game. There should be shortcut among your other apps.
At this point there's fair chance that your FPS is disgustingly high. What can you do to make it drop?
-tap android back button to access pause menu. There's selection of useful tools for you: changing camera, VR mode and dynamic shadows.
-go to one of two huge pillars visible before you. Forest and proto-town should effectively reduce frames per second.
-just play for some time. When your phone gets hot, CPU throttles down and so FPS drops. I’d like to know how much.
