If you’re a longtime Monster Hunter fan and came out of that Sony E3 keynote with a few worries about World, I have just the quote for you, straight from executive director Kaname Fujioka:

But even World’s most obvious shift from the last game - its lush, home console graphics - is seemingly a byproduct of a more typically Monster Hunter-y goal. When I ask why now was the time to abandon the low powered-hardware that’s served the series so well, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto’s answer takes a different tack to the one I’d expected:
“We really wanted to go further than ever before to portray a living, breathing ecosystem, a world that looks like even if you didn't turn up, it would still be getting on with its business without you - the interactions between monsters and creatures, predator-prey, survival of the fittest stuff.
“To do that, it became clear to us that the current generation of home consoles was the place to be, not just visually. It lets us enhance the AI behaviours and use that extra computational power to make the actual interaction between all the monsters, creatures and hunters more believable than ever in terms of feeling alive.”

as a ps4 owner and longtime fan, i'm hesitant. the trailers made it look shit, really don't like the look of premade traps existing in the environment. 4U was pretty casual with mounting, then hunter arts in X made it even fucking dumber.
no matter how much they dumb the game down for casuals and normalfags, they're not gonna like it, so i wish they'd just stop trying to widen their audience. all they're gonna do is alienate their longtime fans.

I made a thead the other day or so on this game and it was dead with one post. Franchise killed itself by going portable. VC2 was laughable anime shit and 3 never got a western release unless people pirated it with the translation patch. So then this game comes along having completely changed most of the mechanics and I can understand why it's being shoved under the rug already. I'm still getting it though.

Does /v/ consider internet flash games to be "real" video games? The other day it dawned on me that there is like 2 decades worth of weird and varied games that are available online for free. Is there anyone out there that takes this material seriously? There is definitely some interesting stuff to find.

they're real-ass games. only real difference between the flash games I played as a kid and the phoneshit people play now is that I wasn't being conned out of money by microtransactions and I was playing good platformers and weird puzzle games and not just candy crush clones.

Convince me to get into the fighting genre of gaming, /v/.
I've barely played them in recent years, but from observations it seems to be the best choice for
>raw player skill, depending on which game of course, but it's the genre that takes the most effort to get the best at
>almost guaranteed to have a strong, competitive scene if the game is well-developed
>has some of the tightest gaming communities, ranging from total buddy beginners to raging comp autists
>one of the few and only genres left that really works wonders playing together in the same sofa, rather than with strangers online
>sometimes even come with good storytelling, lore, worlds and characters despite not being some AAA RPG title
I suppose a main concern is whether or not it's worth getting into if I intend to play mostly on my own, against the computer. I rage easily against players online from even the smallest latency having any impact whatsoever on a match, and I only have 1-2 half-interested people to play with locally.
