Let me explain. I will use Dark Souls as an example. The worst part about this game is how little it respects your time. I am not complaining about this game being difficult. I appreciate the difficulty and the need to practice to improve. I’m referring to the fact that dying is an integral gameplay element. Games can be difficult and can still be very fun, but 95% of this game is retracing your steps. This game is not about discovery or adventure or trying new things. It’s about doing the same thing over and over and over. Now, I totally respect that this might appeal to someone else. If you don’t mind doing the same thing repeatedly in the same section and don’t mind having to re-do the same 10 minutes twenty times, then it’s fine. But it gets really tiring and boring just doing the same thing over and over. It gets to the point where you’re trying to prove something rather than having fun. Especially when you go through an area you’ve crushed thirty or more times just to be knocked off a ledge and lose everything you’ve done for the last 10 minutes. “Ok, time to do all that work again.” It’s just very tiring after a while. I got about ⅔ of the way through this game. While the gameplay itself is fun, it just wastes so much of your time.
