The Brazilian Olympics will have the heavier medal in history, 500g (In London the heavier was 400g):
Gold Medal: 494g of silver (purity: 92,5%), and 6g of gold (purity: 99,9%)
Silver Medal: 500g of silver
Bronze Medal: 475g of copper (97%), 25g of zinc (3%)
In London the gold medal had 1,34% gold, 92,5% silver and the rest of copper.
More than 30% of the silver and the bronze are recycled.
The ribbons are made of almost 50% recycled plastic.
The paralympic medals, for the first time, will have guizos and braille writings.
It was produced 5.130 medals, 2.488 olympic and 2.642 paralympic.
They are fairly bulged with a thicker centre. In the edges it's written the modality.
The art of the olympic medals brings the goddess of victory, Nike, and the Panathinaikos from Greece. In the verse there's a laurel wreath and the Rio 2016's logo. In the Paralympic there's the paralympic's logo and the on one side and the braille inscription on the other.
For the first time in history each medalist will receive also a sculpture.
