If these are the only two bets available and I bet on both, my minimum win is 30 units, having paid in 20 units.
Why does this not mean that I will always make profits off betting? I don't understand.

Does anyone here have any experience with making significant money from betting?
I've tried match betting but that only works when you can get free bets, which tends to only occur as you sign up for an account, so any profits are temporary.
I've also tried arbitrage betting, which is similar but doesn't rely on free bets to make a risk free profit. This is rather unsuccessful because most arbitrage opportunities only exist for a few minutes at best, and the profit margin is usually less than 1%. This is fine once you amass enough capital for .5-1% to be a significant amount of money, but even then there is usually not enough money available to lay on the exchange, so this limits your total profits quite significantly.
These past two nights I've been applying the Kelly Formula to the NBA, by taking the percentage win chance on FiveThirtyEight as the true probability and taking the odds from an Irish bookmaker, Paddy Power. Last night I made slightly over €30 on a €100 bankroll and just under €115 total investment. Tonight I'm down about €13 but if Oklahoma win I will be up approximately €7. Has anyone had success with Kelly Betting or with the predictions of FiveThirtyEight for the NBA or other sports leagues?
