I've got anew associates in Systems/Networking with 10 years experience. Middle class here is 30 to 45k a year here so I wouldn't call it competitive. If you make 100k a year here you're basically the highest of high class and there is very little hat differentiates you from someone with millions of dollars.

Is 72k even that good? The position is for data science internship, when it concludes I can be offered full time at around 100-110k.

Are you in school? What are you studying if so?

I'm 18, engineering student. I hope to get my degree in eng then go to law school and become a lawyer (I hope that an eng degree will make me desirable because people usually associate engineers with intelligence and if not being an engineer can get me a job as a plan b).

But I hope at some point when I have a comfortable job to take some time off and use some money I've saved up to buy equipment/studio time and record an album. I'm a massive /mu/fag and am really passionate about it, and it is my dream to someday record my own album (even if two people ever listen to it, it's more for myself anyway). I just hope I still feel as passionate about it by the time I get enough money to actually do it.

I don't know why I'm typing this all out, but we are similar age and I suppose telling you my plan helps in some way or maybe gives you some ideas.

My last boss, a project manager for banking software, has a degree in animal sciences. He never once thought he'd prefer what he does now over what he studied.

Here's a key piece of advice a cousin gave me: Education isn't going anywhere. If you take a year off now or later, it doesn't matter. It doesn't make university evaporate. We're conditioned to think we need to automatically already have our career figured out but there's 0 harm in changing your degree several times or even not studying for a few years.

I'm 23 and I'm only just now back in uni, slated to graduate in fall 2018 thanks to hammering summer classes. I dropped out at 19 and worked for 4 years until I bumbled into a software QA job that showed me I had a serious knack and love for programming.

Study whatever you like, and if you don't know then try random classes. Things you've never tried before. You have no idea what you might end up liking, even if it sounds stupid.

I used to have a bad problem. I started burglaring houses and cars. got in a fight with brother and all my friends who helped me burgle got freaked out by how much I did it. all alone. some tweeker ask me if I was a tweaking and I said yes. You can't 'get' anyone to do that. Reporting a rape is scary on multiple levels and even though it's objectively the best thing to do if only for the sake of getting justice done on a criminal scumbag, there's a lot of reasons why a survivor might prefer to stay quiet.

I know you want to help her but if she's not comfortable with doing it then there's nothing you can or should do. Just be there for her if she needs your help and you'll be doing the best that anyone could be expected to do.

Maybe inform her that the longer she waits, the harder it's going to be to prove. If she actually wants to report it but isn't feeling up to it right away, that knowledge might convince her to muster up her courage.

I'd say this, judging by the context you've probided. If you wait for them and act stupid, they'll think you're just that and your job will probably be even more at risk.

It's worth asking though, what is your job? Are you a good employee (be honest)? Did you actually speak to your manager about the days off, or just punch it in the calendar online? How much do you need this job?
