If marooned on some console somewhere, or otherwise obscure early electronic machine, there's a game out there that could have been a bigger hit than Zelda?
>The flip side of doing something new, however, is that Zelda was a game where we were very concerned whether players would understand what they were supposed to do (much like the fear Nakamura had when Dragon Quest was first released). Once we decided thereād be riddles and puzzles in Zelda, that carried a lot of anxiety with it as well. Some of the puzzles are quite difficult to solve, after all.
I mean think about it, how many games are there, RIGHT NOW, that we don't know about because the fans are so scarce or can't convey what makes them great because of noob bridges that are too tough?
I think it's kind of a miracle that Zelda ever became popular. That there was a niche for games that deep in the early industry.
>>3381009
>I think it's kind of a miracle that Zelda ever became popular
Marketing.
Druaga was a hit in Japan, Hydlide was popular enough.
Zelda doesn't seem too much out of place.
Maybe the overseas release was questionable but Nintendo played it save by adding a map and Americans ate up everything by them.

Have you ever seen the commercials they used then?
Is this the best way to play retro consoles on your HDTV without a Retron/Framemeister/terrible hdmi converter?

Is what the best way? No one is going to click that link.
>>3380857
whatever it is the answer is no.

I tried to add a time shortcut in the link I put. Oh well, just skip to 1:20.
tl;dw: He's basically putting his Super Nintendo through s-video through a DVD Burner (which has the ability to upscale) and outputs it to component, and apparently it looks pretty good. I just wanted to see what you guys thought of this.
What's the difference between the action, adventure, and action adventure genres?
>>3380832
the amount of puzzle and action
>>3380839
and exploration
A pure action game is very straightforward, frantic action, often with a timer and very demanding on skills/reflexes, there is little room for exploring and such.
Adventure games have a more deliberate pace where you explore big maps and stuff, you can take your time to figure out things, and progressing if often related to puzzles or collecting items rather than the frantic pace of action games.
>>3380856
Not entirely, you can have adventure games with fairly limited exploration so while generally adventure games do have more area to cover they aren't required
I want to try a small survey.
Name 5 games you have played from the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th generations that you consider good. And 5 games that you consider to be bad. When it comes to PC games, just use your best judgment as to what "generation" it belongs to. Dreamcast counts as 6th for the purposes of this. You can name more if you want but try to keep the love/hate equal.
My hypothesis is that if you compile a list of games that people consider good, they will overlap quite often, but a similar list of bad games will be extremely diverse, and that "games are getting worse" is simply a myth. The only reason we think that is because we're aware of the bad games, far more aware than was possible a mere decade ago.
Let the shitflinging commence.
Faggot OP with his bad taste in games.
4th Gen
+ Lunar 2, Shining Force, Streets of Rage 2, Super Metroid, Doom
- Shadow of the Beast, Bubsy, Ballz 3D, Super Thunder Blade, Drakkan
5th Gen
+ Final Fantasy 9, Jagged Alliance 2, Resident Evil 2, Tomb Raider 3, Icewind Dale
- Rhapsody, Alundra 2, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Fighting Force, South Park
6th Gen
+ Phantasy Star Online, Persona 4, Devil May Cry 3, Jak and Daxter, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
- Neverwinter Nights, Yu-Gi-Oh: EDS, The Urbz: Sims in the City, True Crime: Streets of LA, Final Fantasy X-2
7th Gen
+ Dragon's Dogma, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, Dark Souls, Metal Gear Rising, Mark of the Ninja
- Rondo of Swords, Atelier Totori, Necrodancer, Starbound, Castlevania: Mirror of Fate
I didn't have a lot of bad game especially for generation I didn't played in their times. When I play a previous generation I buy game by recommendation. Avoiding Sport and licenced game remove a lot of shit.
4th Gen - I never owned a Snes or Genesis. Played these game at friend house.
+ Chrono Triggers, Super Metroid, Megaman X, Street Of Rage 2, Legend OF Zelda A Link To The Past
- Fifa 94,
5th Gen - I had a playstation at that times
+ Final Fantasy 7, Red Alert, Paper Mario, Crash Badnicoot 3, Megaman X4
- Excalibur 2555AD (owned it), Discworld on PSX, Sonic R,
6th Gen - Only had NDS (For Megaman)
+ Megaman ZX, The world End with you, Advance Wars, Megaman Starforce 3, Sonic Color NDS
- Tales of Symphonia (I can go die now), Tomb Raider Angel Of Darkness,
7th Gen
+ Bravely Default, Legend of Zelda A link Between World, Project X Zone, Bayonetta, Tales of Vesperia, Fire Emblem Awakening
- Command & Conquer 4(CANCER), Rodea SkySoldier, Kingdom Heart 3D, Hyperdimention Neptunia,
You will get a lot of overlap on bad game because of failed sequels of beloved games. Most of my back game or sequel to good one.
/vr/, could you tell me more about the relationship between Sega and Gamefreak? They released Pulseman for MD and it seems that Sugimori is a huge fanboy but is there something else?
>>3380487
Who knows
They also made a game for the PC Engine, in 1996 (when the system was dead)
>>3380487
They also did Tembo the Badass Elephant as a joint with Sega
Sugimori is a bonafide Sega fanboy, but Game Freak is so tied to Pokemon and Nintendo I don't imagine they get to branch out much
>>3381658
Obviously, Nintendo x Sega crossover game by Game Freak.
/vr/ Related "Childrens" games thread?
What do you mean, games starred by little kids?
All games are for children, OP.
>>3380464
That game was fucking terrifying
What does /vr/ think of Kid Chameleon? Personally one of my favorite games, although I've never beat it
>>3380253
Mario for the Sega Genesis
It's decent
>>3380253
It looks cool.
>tfw no skin jacket
>>3380253
Hard. Very hard. The power ups were cool but as a kid I never really stood a chance of beating it. There were unfair autoscrolling stages that just led you to death with no margin for error whatsoever and sometimes it seemed that in order to progress you needed to still be wearing a power up you picked up stages ago.
It's an ok game for masochists
so does anyone know much about the neo geo (or neo geo cd) and universe bios? i saw a couple videos on it and i was sorta interested.
universe bios is this: http://unibios.free.fr/
both seem pretty interesting and i wanted to know a bit more about it.

What was the best Indiana Jones game and why was it Quackshot?
>>3380092
I liked Temple of Doom as a kid.
>>3380098
Never had a chance to try that one. Would play pic related at a friend's house growing up. I remember that it was alright. Never ended up beating it. Only made it to the last boss once. Would always get to stage before where your going up a mountain side and these mountain goats would keep fucking my shit up.

This was superior
>doing my yearly cleaning of all my cart based entertainment
>tend to switch some of them on to check the battery

>Pikachu, little lightning turret
>Farfetch'ed, the surprisingly good cutbro
>Vaporeon, ice/surf
My first team. All gone. Enjoy the time you have with your old buddies now, /vr/, because one day they will all disappear and forget about you.

I will mourn the day when my save of Mario RPG with the obtained Super Suit is lost. Then I'll replace the batteryand then spend countless battles to obtain it again
There's various ways of backing up the save data from cartridges.
>>3380007
If you actually gave a shit you'd buy a backup device, multiple people make usb cart readers for GB now. You can buy them for almost any system.
Is he over powered?

Just picked up this rom hack at my local gaming emporium. What do you think of it?
I don't know! I just saw this cool video by a balding man and a mole on cocaine where they played it though!

What the fuck is wrong with the world? Too bad xXBillyNggrH8r69Xx didn't charge money for his hack because apparently some 'tards would've paid for it.

What are some good retro crossovers?
Hard mode: no fighting games or Banpresto.
Battletoads & Double Dragon
Robot Taisen games
>>3379834
Well if this is allowed, then Alien vs Predator for arcade/Jaguar.
I need guidance. you probably get tons of these threads.
is there a guide you could point me to?
I want to get into emulating and plug it into my big screen plasma.
is there an all in one solution? I saw some people use their wii and use classic controllers. is this the easiest way?
I want to do nes, snes, Genesis and maybe Gameboy. also looking for multi-player.
again, just posting some guides or sites would help me. even posting your setup for living room gaming would help
>>3379785
1. Crack your Wii
2. Play games
If you mean by all-in-one solutions super-(not just because it is super, it is just above other emulators)emulators like Retroarch, I'm not aware of those.
Yes, you can use Classic controller. Also you can use GC controllers to play.
There were some guides at GBAtemp. Also there's >>>/vg/hbg
>>3379785
>I want to do nes, snes, Genesis and maybe Gameboy
I dunno about all-in-one, but all those are so easy to emulate at this point that you hardly need to fuck with settings. I can run all of those on my 8-year old Toshiba, and it's not even a gaming laptop.
Check out emuparadise.me, it's where I got started.
>>3379785
>is there an all in one solution?
I'm sorry but there just isn't. When it comes down to the choice of doing something so stupid the better choice is to end it all, each man (or in your case little girl) needs to make his own call on how he's going to meet his maker. So your call. Just make sure you do it.
