Good thing you only need one or two buttons besides the d-pad to beat MK2 with some characters.
We all know and love the arcade games of Sega, Namco, Taito, etc. Both their big hits and more obscure titles. But what about games from companies you don't hear about often?
Van Van Car is a simple but fun maze game from a company called Sanritsu. You drive around a maze popping balloons and avoiding enemy cars, which you can jump over or shoot if you get the "E" balloon. Picking up the striped balloon when it appears will automatically clear the stage, and award a bonus.
Bouncer by Entertainment Sciences.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ySvPV3UjuE
>In the end, despite having perhaps the most powerful hardware and arguably the best graphics in the industry plus a game that drew rave reviews, Bouncer was never released. So what happened? In a February, 1985 Replay article Ron Clark claimed that the game failed because the graphics were too good. So good that many mistakenly believed the game was a laserdisc game at a time when laserdisc games were getting an increasingly bad reputation for reliability (the website turbosub.com, however, claims that operators at the AMOA show rejected the game when they found out it _wasn't_ a laserdisc game).
No cabinets or ROM dumps are currently known to survive ;_;

The Dreamcast has always been my favourite console, what do you guys remember about it if you had any memories?
If I had any memories I would recommend Super Magnetic Neo but I can't remember ever playing that game : /
>>3371357
Never heard of it, but it seems cool
I remember using the internet browser in the wee hours of the morning. I went on chat rooms, looked up cheat codes, and I remember looking up .wav files of farts online.
But one memory that stuck out for me was I stumbled across an H-site. I don't remember what it was called, it was similar to The Citadel of Lost Love or something. The disclaimer at the entry page was real unique. If I could recall the page went along the lines of a mysterious stranger in a trenchcoat greeting you. He tells you of secret place to where only those of 18 or above were allowed. I was so scared of selecting yes, but when I did I was exposed to hentai for the first time.
If I could ever find that site again though, it has some of the first pics I fapped to. It really did feel like this site just came and disappeared like that mysterious shop down the street.
can we have a thread talking about and posting your favourite pixel art from /vr/ games? either screenshots you've taken, or anything you've found online.
doesn't necessarily have to be japanese pc-98 games, but those are usually what I find have the most work put into them
wow nobody? there used to be threads like this
>>3372205
Yeah, but people always post the same shit. Mostly the same neogeo fighting game backgrounds and some fake art from the last few months.
How does Outlaws compare to other first-person shooters from around the same time?
About the same
Apart from the cutscenes, it's a really ugly-looking game. Also, the levels are flat and boring. There's a level in one of the Redneck Rampage games that takes place in an Old West town. That one level is more fun than all of Outlaws.
God tier racing/driving games on the ps1?
I already know gran turismo, wipeout and the driver series but i want more
ridge racer 4, wipeout 3

Ridge Racer series, Jet Moto series, and Need for Speed series.
Carmageddon
Could Leisure Suit Larry be made today?
It was and it didn't get very good reviews.
>>3370789
I think something similar could be made, but it'd just be very different.
It's very much a product of the author's personality and imagination, not just of it's time (although it certainly was that too)
>>3370791
If you're talking Magna Cum Laude, wasn't that like, over a decade ago? Unless they made a new one.
The remake of 1 wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either.
The only good Larrys are 1, 6, and 7.
Will we ever see a Redneck Rampage reboot?
>>3370732
The most I could see happening is GOG or Steam rereleases for people who remember the game fondly. Things are so different now, I don't think a reboot would stand a chance
and coincidentally yeah it's on GOG
>>3370732
I don't think this style of game or a game with that name would survive in today's market.
>>3370756
I think rednecks are one of the few groups you can still make fun of even in America.
without being ripped or downsampled?
You can also express this amount as a percentage.
The Dreamcast uses special GD-ROMs instead of CD-ROMs for its games. GD holds more than CD (but less than DVD). Games that take up the whole GD need to have their cutscenes, music, or sound effects cut or degraded to fit CD-Rs.
How bad is the downsampling? Will cutscenes look Sega-CD quality and music sound SNES quality?
>>3370467
We all know it uses GD roms.
Unless you're comparing it directly to the official version, I doubt you'll notice anything off with CD versions.
Shenmue is the one that people still talk the most.
But around early 2000s until the mid-2000s it was a problem for a bunch of games, some wouldn't work right or would have graphical problems, but things changed and the isos got better even just using 700mbs cds. Shenmue needs 900mb cds.
You faint from lack of food! edition
Discuss roguelikes (and Rogue itself) from long ago.
Roguelikes are know for their depth and almost limitless replayability. Nethack was released in 1987 and last received an update in December 2015.
What's the point of this? There's already a /rlg/ in /vg/. I know because it's the only general on /vg/ I visit.

Was Incursion ever expanded beyond the original scope when the creator departed/gave up on it?
>>3370186
So I started playing the original rouge on a mac plus emulator.
It's fun so far, but holy fuck are the controls weird.
I skimmed over the readme file, but I forgot what the key combos for quit session and close game were. I basically just mashed buttons until it quit, since I can't force quit the emulator without banaging the disk images.
It was like the Vim of video games.
Still though it was fun.
My only prior experience with rougelikes was the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, which are fun but considerably easier.
why has nobody since ever been able to make a game that approaches the sublime brilliance of this work?
I don't know but someone needs to. Btw what is your favorite Ultima game?
>what is your favorite Ultima game?
Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar
Thinking about that game it is 30 years old now and I think there still aren't another RPGs that does NOT feature a villain for you to fight but only resolves around bettering yourself. Things like this alone makes me consider answering yes to OP's question.
>>3368531
> Ultima I
> or Questron ?
it wasn't brilliant, just different
You might say Ultima III was brilliant because of how many lights Japan shone upon it. or if you are using "sublime" to mean inspiring then yeah Ultima III and Wizardry I inspired an entire industry over there.
ITT we create the worst retro gaming console one feature at time.
Let's start with Atari 5200 controllers that are hardwired to the system.

What are the best retro Dragon Ball games /vr/?
Shen Long no Nazo is really fun if you Game Genie to have infinite health. The constantly depleting health mechanic due to Goku's hunger is simply a load of shit and literally ruins an otherwise fun, early Famicom game.
Fighters:
1. Super Butoden 2
2. Hyper Dimension
3. Shin Butoden
4. Bu Yu Retsuden
5. Idainaru Goku Densetsu
Non-fighting games:
1. Super Saiya Densetsu
2. DBZ Legends (could be considered a fighting game though, but definitely not traditional)
3. DBZ III: Ressen Jinzou Ningen
4. Super Goku-den (parts 1 and 2)
5. DBZ Gaiden (Famicom)
