I want to know how many/how big hard drives I will need.
Also how large is the average ROM for each console?

Master System
Colecovision
Vectrex
SNES
Genesis (SegaCD) (32X)

>>3388813
Last time I checked, the NES library was roughly 3.7 - 4 GB.
Including bootlegs, a few hacks, and mostly every revision of each ROM.
SNES was around four times bigger; roughly 16 GB.
>>3388827
Forgot to add, SNES ROMs are usually 512KB - 4 MB (which is 4 - 32 Megabits)
>>3388813
> Atari 2600
> Intellivision (Speech Module games)
> Magnavox Odyssey 2
They didn't usually exceed, let's say, eight megabytes, Atari games were like 4-16 KB.
For CD-based systems take a number of games and multiply it by 700, that will be roughly the number of megabytes required for te full library.
N^$ library was like 10 GB IIRC.
Which Rocket Knight game do you like the most, /vr/?
The SNES installment seems to have the best graphics.
All of them, they're all different and great on their own right.
I haven't played the non-retro remake though.
>>3388447
>I haven't played the non-retro remake though.
It's okay.
>>3388440
rocket knight adventures is the best. Sparkster is good but not as polished.
Has anyone here successfully ran sonic CD on windows 7?
I tried the XP patch plus compatibility mode with no results, it says "error: sonic cd is already in use!"
Any clues?
Also please don't send me to some master collection or steam remake bullshit i came to you for a reason.
Worst case scenario, i already have it running on my PSP. But it's not exactly the same as the PC version, from which i have vague memories of save file menus and stuff. That's probably all there is to it besides cinematics, but i wanna run the original game on my computer.
>>3388425
The 2011 version is superior in every way.
get that
>>3388426
what about DOSbox?
it says "needs 256 color mode" but seems more likely to run if i found a way to make it run in that color mode.
>>3388426
>in every way.
It lacks the timer reset mechanic, so no, not in every way.
How did this version end up being superior to the 16-bit version? They're all really similar, but this controls so much better and looks fucking great for an 8-bit port. Blind=mown.
>>3387583
It looks and sounds great, even for a late NES game. Too bad the controls and the level design are so much bullshit that you can hardly enjoy it.
>>3387604
The controls are tight, plays better than Mega Drive/SFC,
Oh shit, this wasn't an 8-bit port of a 16-bit title, the NES version was the original. Makes more sense now.
I heard you can use a game genie to play SFC games on the snes.
Do SFC games with the extra pins not work with this?
I heard SFC games work on the SNES anyway. They just don't fit in the plastic cart slot.
>>3387442
You have to snip the tabs off from inside, but, I rather not mutilate my snes.
My friend is giving me his game genie and I heard it's a lot easier to mod that instead.
>>3387416
>Do SFC games with the extra pins not work with this?
Clearly not, since there are no connections for them.
This is a good game.
It's unbalanced as fuck though and half impossible to run properly on modern rigs tho.
>>3387284
It's the best Mechwarrior there is.
A couple of years ago I built a Windows 98 gaming rig primarily so I could play it again.
Totally worth it.
God damn it. Didn't some other 16 bit z-buffer games get unofficial patches for modern PCs?

You can put in like, 8 medium lasers and a shitload of heatsinks and kill everything in one or two hits and still have room for more guns
Mostly curious what everyone thinks but also looking to maybe add a couple to my collection. Most are god awful. What does /vr/ find good?
>>3387278
Batman is pretty good, it's basically Megaman lite. Robocop (not the GBC version) also good and has fantastic menu music. Metal Gear Solid :GB is probably the best GBC game available. Shantae is right up there as well but rare as fuck.
>>3387325
Sweet, I'll look into those. The only ones I have so far are the Pokemon yellow, gold, crystal, and kirbys dream land 1 and 2.
>>3387334
In that case also invest in the Mario Land games, Wario titles, and Tetris. All safe bets, all great that will keep you playing and playing.
To save time it wouldn't hurt to give this a read also:

>>3387049
Mystical Ninja is such a fun game.
>>3387049
Yeah, too bad my brother doesn't want to play it with me
If you're into imports you should check out doremi fantasy, really fun game

Assmad Panasonic fangirl detected.
Is this part really as hard to figure out as the Angry Video Game Nerd says? I've never played this game.
No, you just have to use your imagination. I guess that could be a problem today though. But back in the 80's, people actually still read books a lot and knew what "metaphor" means.
I beat this game without walkthrough btw, which is more than I can say about Hexen (because there it really is a wild goose chase to find a lever or something you happened to miss).
>>3382892
What about equipping a certain color crystal and crouching at a nondescript wall is at all intuitive? What would make you think "I should try this"? I don't know if a towns person gives you some vague allusion to a hint about it, but if not then all the imagination in the world wouldn't point to this solution.
>>3382895
Mountains are made or rock. It's pretty obvious, and it's the only solution left after you can't find a litteral, prominent rock. Deducion by eliminition and all that. It's just basic logic and intuition.
I don't remember anything about the crystal, because I haven't played this in over 30 years, but it must not have been that difficult if I could figure it out. Probably a hint was given somewhere.
And yeah, some of the townfolk give bogus info, but that's one of the cool things about this game. You get to figure out yourself what's true and what's not. Reminded me a lot of playing tabletop D&D, where not everyone was out to help you. In fact, I bought this game because the cover reminded me of D&D. It's heavily inspired by the cover from AD&D module I6 Ravenloft, btw).
Pic is rumor table from Basic D&D module B5 Horror on the Hill. Pretty typical stuff...
Maybe I am being a nostalgiafag
but I feel for the current generation of kids and games they are likely to be exposed to.
With all of the app games, mobas and hyper realistic shooters.
These games just don't seem as, "soulful" of the games of yore and often lack memorable musical scores.
What are your sentiments on this /vr/?
I only feel bad for them right now because the newest, hottest smartphone game is making them go outside in 95 degree heat.
I don't feel bad for them because they have access to emulators to try great games from the past for free. I kinda envy them, actually.
Stuff like the NES mini will bring older games back for normies, a lot of people are gonna be getting that thing this holidays and a lot of kids will be introduced to NES games for the first time. Most of them will probably think they suck because it's not touch and it doesn't have modern, 3D graphics, but hey.
Stop worrying about the newer generations, OP. For them, video games isn't even anything special at all, they were born with them, they take them for granted.
>>3382654
>don't feel bad for them because they have access to emulators to try great games from the past for free. I kinda envy them, actually.
Born in 88, Idk man I had emulators to play the games I missed out on when I was 3-11 and knew nothing about the rpg or things of that nature.
The current gen kids will just see these consoles as outdated.
>For them, video games isn't even anything special at all, they were born with them, they take them for granted.
That's the thing, they will take them for granted, and they won't be held in as high regard as we hold them.
Less game devs, will appear and that will be a shame.
>three people had 3 months to produce 52 distinct games
How did this even make sense in the person's head who conceived this project?
Well, they made about 3 games, then changed the Sprites on most of them so there were 51 variations. Oh, and then they added Cheetamen.
>>3382131
Obviously, the plan was to dupe gullible parents into buying low-effort garbage (especially with its $200 price tag).
They were looking to maximize profit. They didn't even pay for a license to officially publish the pile of shit.
Hey /vr/, I need your help finding the name of two games, one of them easy and the other really hard (because I don't remember that well because I was really young and only played it a couple of times.
First off is a PS1 game that was multiplayer (up to 4 I think), and it was some sort of ninjas(?) fighting, had very small sprites and the screen/place where the battle occurred turned clockwise or counterclockwise (it all happened in a single screen) for some reason. I played it a few times with my brother, and we didn't have the full game it was just on demo disc.
Second is a lot harder to remember. All I remember was that in was in an arcade, back in the late 90's (sometime around 96-98) , and it had a top-down camera. What I do remember is that it was sort of a dungeon crawler for 2 players who had to fight beasts I think. Definitely had a medieval/dungeons and dragons theme going. Very colorful and had sharp 32-bit ish graphics.
Again, I only played this in an actual arcade. I didn't speak a word of english, which I assume the game was written in, so I don't remember anything. I know this is all really vague, but that's all I got.
I remember a game I played a long time ago, a famicom game. The only thing I remember is that you play with a robot character that you can swith in a ground/airplane mode> It was a platformer and you were always moving. I'd LOVE to play that again.
>>3380995
metal warriors? just a wild guess
>>3381007
No, it's a nes/famicom game.
