Would any company have the balls to rerelease vintage hardware? As in, a properly manufactured NES that could play carts, and maybe some limited offer repro carts of first party title?
Do you think it'd ever take off? Would you be interested in that sort of thing?
Vintage hardware would mean no hdmi...
Best you could get is probably the Retron 5. The wife loves it.
The problem with that is one, I think they'd have no repatent a lot of the hardware used for the NES, and two, getting a manufacturer to mass produce a bunch of vintage circuit boards and connectors that don't even exist anymore would probably be pretty costly. I think anyway, could be wrong
But I'd totally be into it. Most of my old consoles have yellowed or broken down in someway. Would love to have new ones

The Retron 5 is awful. It reads the cart as copy protection, then just rips the rom and boots an emulator. Games that have known issues in emulators still have them even when using the carts. Unless that's changed or something
What are games similar to similar to SNES Starfox? Like flat-polygonal rail shooters? Or just rail shooters?inb4: Space Harrier, Afterburner, Galaxy Force
I know Starfox is nothing special but it was the first game I got introduced to.
There's not a whole lot in this genre, sadly.
Also "rail-shooter" could also refer to light gun games like Virtua Cop, which I consider vastly different.
I think the best ones are Sin and Punishment and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, other than SF64.
However, SF64 is the only one to feature all-range mode, which isn't really on-rails. But then, S&P and PD also feature some kind of cabal-style parts.

Flat-polygonal? That's some really specific request. Starblade Arcade version, Star Wars Arcade 32X version, X for the Game Boy, Starglider 2 for Amiga.

>That's some really specific request.
Not only them, they are just the games I want to hear the first.
Previous thread >>3345295
This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!
>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.
>Produce OC! Get out your real cameras and take beautiful pictures of your CRTs displaying recognizable characters with the kind of beautiful accuracy that brings tears to the eyes of young and old alike! If you take 100 photos, at least one of them will turn out alright! (maybe)
>Try to be as detailed as possible when asking info on a specific model. As always, google is your friend, and we are your friends with benefits. Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either.
>Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. As always show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.
Discussion of video processing and scaling devices is okay, but try to keep the focus on CRTs and CRT accessories

Nice anon. What's your set-up?
My SNES on my 8044Q via RGB using luma sync because I'm fag.
Heroes of Might and Magic/HOMM3 general
Last thread someone complained about expert level spells and expert wisdom. Nobody fucking understood what his initial complaint was.
>somehow get expert air magic
>hero still hasn't gotten 2nd tier wisdom
He was complaining about shit like that where he couldn't make the most of his expert air magic because that still wasn't offered yet and it was RNG.
>>3360478
And 2nd tier wisdom was just an example, don't know what he said specifically.
>>3360478
It seemed more like he was just asking because he didn't get it but I'm not sure what the complaint is. That's just the way the game is. Wisdom is an important skill necessary to cast advanced spells, that's why all the magic heroes other than Necromancers start with it. Expert Air Magic just represents your proficiency in that sphere. Even if you get shafted and never pick up Wisdom being able to mass cast low level spells is extremely useful so it's not like it was wasted.
Serious question. How to love this console?
WHAT IS LOVE?
BABY DON'T HURT ME
DON'T HURT ME
NO MORE
don't bother. If you don't get its appeal, it's not the hardware for you. Plenty other stuff around to play
Don't feel bad if you don't like it. No one's forcing you to love the thing.
Couldn't find the e-celebs containment thread in the catalog.
Post your favorite reviewers or let's players of retro games.
>>3311240
Take a chill pill, mate. There's nothing wrong with having a thread about this.
>>3311240
e-celeb containment threads were a very clever thing for /vr/ to do when so many e-celeb threads were being made. I welcome it.

why are you doing this
Your opinion on The New Generation
It's a video game.
It's censored.
>>3379007
I don't like it
it feel like it lacks "detailed" and "precise" controls and movement
hope you can understand what I mean, Rondo is the best on these aspects.

GET. WITH. THE. FUCKING. PROGRAM.
A reimagining is not retro, sorry.
It's in Unity, so it's trash. Also SSEE is already literally perfect.

>900,000 for reimaging
I smell bullshit here.
Someone is making shit load of money
Contra Vs Super C
Which was better?
-Also Konami General-
>>3378146
Super C
>>3378170
I agree.
Food for thought:
>Contra loose - $43.52
>Super C loose - $19.99
Both are great but why is Contra double the price of Super C? Is it because of normies?
>>3378146Contra force.(^:
Why did so many 2nd-gen controllers have numpads?
>>3377475
The Atari 2600 set the precedent of console games having different modes. 2nd gen consoles made things a bit "easier" by allowing you to select your game mode via key pad rather than flipping a switch on the actual console. This and the whole advent of the personal computer I guess (i.e. trying to replicate a keyboard).
I'm not familiar with any Coleco games that actually used all of the buttons (personally I just select the game mode I want, unlug the controller, and promptly plug in a genesis 6 button), but I think I have a couple 5200 games that do (space dungeon??).
I don't know, that's my theory though...
I figure they were just copying the most common interface of the time without a clear plan of how to use it
intellivision did have a math games that used it. Other than that system, I never saw a controller with a numpad.
>For the last 10 years Mitsuda has been saying he's going to do a Chrono Cross Remix album.
>Chrono Cross had some amazing music always wanted an arranged album.
>I always check about once a year, to no success.
>Check this time.
>SUCCESS!
>To Far Away Times: Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross Arrangement Album
> Half the songs suck, the other half have gay singing.
This is almost as disappointing as the actual game.
Chrono Cross was already a remix album of Chrono Trigger what did you expect
>>3377140
That... what?
No it wasn't. There was like 2 songs that were the same.
And like 5 songs stolen from Radical Dreamers.
Pokemon Go.
>Global pokemon mmo
>Only a shadow of pokemon's wonderfully deep but accessible battle system
I've had the Diablo battlechest for AGES and although I have loved original Starcraft/Warcraft forever and played them tons I have sadly never bothered to do a full playthrough of Diablo.
Well that ends today, my question to you is:
What class should I pick?
Necromancer
>>3377045
Necromancer or Druid
>>3377045
Amazon. Strafe is a fun skill to use.
What are some of the most disturbing retro games?
The arcade game Chiller by Exidy is remarkably brutal and gory for a game from 1986:

SOFT
JELLY

Any Horrorsoft game or Harvester
Many VNs
Are remasters of retro games still retro?
If so, let's talk about King of Dragon Pass and how terrible I am at it.
>>3376714
Retro is new stuff designed to look old.
Vintage is actual old stuff.
So technically it would be remasters of vintage games that are retro.
But obviously the "retro gaming" phrase has become a massive meme that everyone says so you look pretty autistic arguing the point nowadays even if you're right.
>>3376714
The major thing I dislike about KoDP is it's impractical to ironman it. The endgame has reload or gameover RNG elements.
I like how the story is similar to real ancient stories, eg. you get to have sex with amountain (as in literally fucking the rock).
>>3376714
It's practically the same as the original except a few new scenes and better graphics. If Doom source ports are on-topic than so is this remaster.
So I just recently picked this up at a flea market.
Best Atari games?
>>3376630
>just recently picked this up at a flea market
I haven't even looked at Cinemassacre's Youtube page, but I'm guessing Mike and Bootsy played Breakout.
