What's the cheapest format of magic between modern and standard ?

The thing is that I wanted to get back to the game for a while but I had no one to play with since all my nerd friends left me.

I recently found a gaming store however its kinda far from me and fnm conflicts with my working schedule, since I work at night.

And to top it off my newest cards are from onslaught, iirc, so since I don't know if this will work out I don't want to spend a lot of money in new cards.

EDH anon, it's objectively the best format as it is. EDH can be played for fun at any skill level, with any cards you have available, and if you have a pile of Onslaught cards, you're bound to have some good staples hidden in the jank. Tons of people build and play commander, and /edh/ is a pretty nice place if you want to talk about theory.

Star Wars Saga Edition has more of those than in any other system I have seen. Pretty much everyone can get them too. Highly recommended and I don't like d20 normally.

Drop your /tg/-related ideas, whether it's a story, a system, a setting, a character. Who knows? Maybe someone will pick your idea up and make it a reality. I'll dump mine.

-Take AD&D(or a similarly High-lethality retroclone), and Transpose all the Gurps rules for crafting, construction, trap-setting, Foraging, Farming, and basically every rule you need to survive and build a civilization. Throw in some Dark Heresy crit-tables and a metric fuckton of random tables to generate events, encounters, and setbacks. Finally, Create ten variations on the Dwarf race, and call it the Dwarf Fortress RPG.

the name of the game is Flawed Concept. Players basically find "OC do not steal" characters from Deviantart and attempt to play them, The catch is that their powers are either hallucinations or very, very watered down versions, leaving you with a character who is utterly mundane, except for the fact that every one of their personality traits and flaws must be played to the letter.

So im a newish GM planning on running a game, one of my players requested I allow him to make a character in far stronger than the others (pl12 as opposed to the pl10 of the other characters) with the drawback being that his powers are only available to him when permitted by a certain npc (controlled by me, obviously)

I come before you seeking counsel on this matter, shoul I allow this? It will certainly make balancing encounters very difficult and could lead to issues with the feel of the game, but hes a friend and if it can work id be tempted to allow it, what does your experience say /tg/?

Does anyone else feel like /tg/ shit is their only reason for living?

For the sake of this discussion I'll include writing, painting, RPG / board game playing, MtG, campaign prep, etc. in the umbrella of /tg/ shit.

I really feel like that's what's stopping me from killing myself, is my RPG campaigns. They are basically the only thing I look forward to.I see nothing in my future except gaming and writing, and if I take away that from life I don't think I have much left. I have other hobbies but they don't matter to me. Like I might as well die otherwise.

Post your own /tg/-related feels. Can be anything so long as it's related to tabletop games.

You say you write. Campaigns, stories, lore, you name it. Why not share it to the world? Maybe even have some profit from it? And more importantly, meet like-minded people. And enjoy every minute of them.

You feel bad because you care. Because you feel like you miss some greater purpose in life. There is none. Inheritly all is without meaning. And it might seem terrifying, but see it as an opportunity. If no man's life objectively matters, can't we just enjoy life or at least find a place where it is possible? That's what makes me running, for only I will know my pain and joy and only I can allow the later to dominate. So can you.

Embrace your passions and try finding new ones. Surprise yourself with new experiences. And most importantly, don't worry. There is no point in that.

So turns out that being bad at lying and keeping secrets is a useless quality when you're a GM.

How do you keep a poker face when the party is about to walk into a trap that you're especially excited about? Or avoid acting generally suspicious and letting the players know when something is up?

I just want surprises to be just as sudden for the players as they are for the characters.

Throw red herrings. Grin suspiciously and say there is definitely not a dragon researching your doings, ask them to roll Will saves against what is definitely not a thousand-year-old curse, and just in case of a pit trap, what is your character's weight?

Don't bother. If they start calling you out on your lies, just say "make a reflex save" and then ignore whatever the fuck they roll, and roll like 10d6. There character takes that much damage. Then stand up and say "your dead motherfucker" and knock him miniature off the table. That'll teach those fuckers to manipulate you into admitting the truth.

Goddamn I fucking HATE players who do nothing but bitch about my DMing, then when it's their turn to DM it's the most boring, contrived, railroaded shit ever. Was literally dropped into a Matrix-style arena to fight as many enemies as possible to "prove" myself to some Mary Sue cunt NPC. Or forced to sit to listen to some demon lords monologue and when I figured I'd be interesting and be the "fuck you faggot" guy and bull rush him suicidally, I didn't even die in a cool and cautioning way, I got told I couldn't deal any damage to him and the faggot just ignored me.

Fuck this shit. Fuck other DMs, anon, if you are doing a good job keep doing it, cause god knows those other motherfckers can't do it any better.

Rifts is a post-apoc, kitchen-sink game with soldiers, mecha, wizards, dragons, psionics, cyborgs, monsters, aliens, dimension-hopping and everything else thrown in.

Explain the learning capacity for elves. While this table is lifted specifically from Pathfinder/3.5, the late adulthood/long life shit is pretty universal.

I'm morbidly curious, why is the recommended starting age of a level 1 elf barbarian start at 114? I'm certain in some settings they grow out of childhood at the late teens. Are they so completely inept that they don't reach level 1 until well over 100? Do they learn so slowly because their hippie culture has naturally selected retards?
