Traveller.
--Classic Space Opera
--2d6 based
--Best character backstory generator out there.
Enough random charts & tables you could almost run it without a GM.
--Rules for space battles, ground combat, merchant shipping and espionage.
--Literal "planet of the week" setting.

Dungeon World. It could easily be adapted to sci-fi with minimum effort, it is also 2d6 based like Traveller but without as many autistic rules, and the Traveller chargen system could easily be ported to Dungeon World: simply roll a d6 to see if your character dies during chargen. Stars Without Number has a pretty neat setting and fluff.
The OSR class-based mechanics aren't well suited to sci-fi, but some of the supplements are quite good.

I unironically love Edge of the Empire's mechanics, even if my feelings for the Star Wars setting and aesthetic swing wildly between absolute adoration and visceral loathing.

Anyone have this? I can only find one link to what seems to be the original download site, but it´s dead.

I've got an early alpha version, I don't know what came out after this, if anything.

That´s the only one I´ve been able to find (well, broken links). Guess it never moved on.
Thanks!
