They make the Evasion frame (named after a Crimethinc book about a vegan straight edge anarchist who stole and scammed everything, and freed a bunch of mink + other ecoterrorism before he went to jail)

This bike is probably #2 on the hot hipster frames after Elephant NFEs. Third is Soma Wolverine

26+ touring bike

They also make a 66.6cm drop bar because The Devil

I want to convert my MTB to a commuter bike i would use only on asphalt and concrete. Is ut useful to change my MTB tires to slick tires?
37 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
Should make you go a little faster. Slicks have better grip on asphalt too. But you might get more flats. Knobs on mtb tires help keep the casing above small sharp stuff.
>>
>>1003762
Damn i dont wanna get flats.
Is the weight saving effect of the new tires important? I've seen somewhere that weight saving on your tires is more important than on your frame.
>>
>>1003766
So get slicks with good flat protection. There are a lot out there, often labeled as commuter or touring tires. I'm currently using Schwalbe Marathons and having good success with them.

What kind of cycling infrastructure do you like and don't like?

I generally like any kind of cycle path that is separated from motorized traffic. Shared lane markings are useful only on quiet roads; otherwise, they are useless.

I don't understand why anybody would travel by bicycle on a busy road, especially if there's a perfectly good cycle path available to them. Why would somebody do that?

Just was hit last night but thankfully not badly at all. Right ribcage is slightly bruised, lips a bit bruised, feel a bit nauseous though and just generally sluggish, and couldn't stomach anything but 2 slices of bread this morning, even though I normally eat like 1k calories for breakfast.

Anyone else have similar symptoms? I have work and school in like a couple of hours and don't want to pass out/die half way through class/work

Yep. I was racing home to watch something on TV with some people, and started to salmon cycle like a retard.
Guy in a truck making a right (or maybe just tying to cross) onto the road I was on the left side of drove DIRECTLY into me. Glasses were thrown, I took the hit entirely to my face and shoulder.
He got halfway out of his car, but I just took a serious header and was embarrassed about being where I shouldn't, so I didn't make a scene about making him stay, so the fucker left.
(I wonder if he ever thinks about killing a dude, wonder if he checked the paper in the morning)

Friends picked me up, realized before me that it was worse than I thought, and that my eyebrow was hanging on by a thread.
Took me to the hospital where I got a dozen stitches to my head.

Cycle with traffic, kids.

universalcycles - easiest site to use. slightly higher prices, wait for discount email and buy

somafabrications/IRD - I can't hate on these guys because they have sweet bar tape and handlebars

nashbar - if you priority is dirt cheap, this is the site for you. Occasional amazing deals

jensen - my all-time favorite. Low on selection but shipping to the east coast is faster than universal cycles, and prices are a little better

ebay - the ultimate way to buy shit you don't need and still be really happy with it. Lots of good deals to make up for the stuff you shouldn't have bought. Consistently the best prices on major brands if you are patient

aliexpress - Incredibly cheap shit. $2 for a headlamp. $0.50 for a compass. $1 for a bottle cage. 50% chance it will smell like burnt rubber and human suffering. But there ARE some good deals on there, watch out for bootlegs and basically everything. Do not buy carbon from here

>mountain bikers who can't bunny hop

how is this a thing? Seriously I see people all the time who have been riding for years and can't bunny hop for shit.

Why? why why why? it's not that hard.

>>
>>1002738
Bunny hop is so relevant to mountain biking.
One can not complete a mtb trail without bunnyhopping.
>>
Well I'm doing my best, god...

No need to be a shit sucker about it. I can jerk any bike off the ground the other way, but bunnyhopping is something I haven't mastered yet.

>>1002749
This applies only when there are fucking park benches on the track as obstacles. Doing a normal jump on a bicycle is not called bunnyhopping.

About 10 years ago i swapped most of the parts of my bike for various shit. (most of the hardware is now Deore) Then i stopped riding a bike.
Now i want to get back into commuting with my bike but i realized that it is too slow. I think my front chainrings are too small.
Is is possible to swap the largest one for a larger chain ring?
24 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1002737
It will probably be difficult to find rings in that fitment and I doubt you'll find anything larger, what do you have currently? I'd just replace the whole crankset.
>>
>i want to get back into commuting with my bike but i realized that it is too slow.
>my front chainrings are too small.

Cadence and cardio motherfucker. Having a bigger front gear will not make you go faster. That's not how bikes work. You just have to ride more.
>>
>>1002748
If he's spinning out then a larger chainring will help.

Hello my /n/egus

I like to use my trainer and I use trainer road not so much for the plans but for giving me real time readings for cadence, power and heart rate

I don't like paying for it

Is there a program or freeware software that could provide the readings? I usually do a free ride so the plans dont really matter to me for now

Pump up those tires and see whether they hold air.

If not > new tubes.

Cracks in the sidewall of the tire are not necessarily = dead tire. If the carcass is sound (fabric) you can use them for a while.

See if the brakes work. If they are hard to press, you want to
a) take out the cables and put some oil into the housing
b) use new housing and cables
c) check the caliper arms. If they don't move easily, take off and use grease on the bosses, then reassemble.
d) Check whether the caliper arms have the same spring tension. You can adjust them with the tiny screw at the caliper arms.

Your chain probably will be fine. Just ride and see wether is makes ugly sounds. If yes, use only little oil.

Have fun.

If you don't know anything about bike maintenance just take it to your local bs, it looks rideable.

Is building your own bike easy? I want to build one similar to this but I have no idea where to start.

Anyone got some resources/guides to read up on?
29 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
That is a concept bike which gears can be shifted by brainwaves. If you had any idea how to build you werent on /n/ asking how to do it. Do yourself a favor and start by patching a flat tube and replacing a chain.
>>
>>1002320
You don't. It'd cost you far more to build a bike from the frame up than it would to just go in a shop and pay full retail for one, because the startup costs to work with even aluminum, let alone carbon fiber, would eat you alive. This is not even addressing the issue of learning how to weld properly, or learning how to work with carbon fiber properly, or learning how to design a bike frame properly in the first place. You want to do all those things, plan on spending the next 10 years learning the ropes from someone you'll either be working for for low wages, or for free as an internship. It's as non-trivial as learning how to be a luthier or a watchmaker.

If you must insist on this course of action: >>>/diy/

Backpack.

I've got a cable lock and a D lock and both came with bike mounts that I used for a while but eventually it became easier to just carrying them in my backpack. Because I often ride my bike without needing to lock it up or use the backpack and the times when I do need to lock it up is when I need my backpack as well. So the locks just stay in the backpack now.

A couple of years ago I was gifted a Kona Dew Plus, a hybrid bike. I rode it maybe about 70 miles all together and for whatever reason became disenchanted by it because I wanted a road bike. That didn't happen and my cycling career ended. But now I need to exercise, do cardio, and I want to get into shape... and I hate running so I pulled it out of storage.

It's a pretty sweet bike to be honest, don't know why I became bitchy about it. Some nuts rusted but nothing on the frame and it's essentially in perfect condition just dusty and the tires are flat, the disk brakes squeal a bit but work.

How much do tires cost? How much is a tune up, reasonably? I don't want to get hustled by the bike mafia in my town.

Also I want to put butterfly/trekking bars on it because I can just transfer over the current brakes without having to convert shit like I would with drop bars.

Any ideas?

Most LBS do a full overhaul for 100-150$ but you dont need to do that, get some generic degreaser at a hardware store for like 10 bucks clean the drivetrain and buy bike specific chain lube and lube the chain, Use the videos at GCN for help. do you want to change the tires or tubes? tubes are about 7$ each

tldr: Get Gud and do it yourself.
>>
are you sure the tyres need replacing? check the tubes.
why do you think you need new bars if you've barely touched the bike? try bar ends, at least.

post a pic of the actual bike.
>>
>>1001227
>>1001229

I'll clean the bike and the chain but I'll bring it to the bike store for the tires.

How would I clean the brakes? They squeel a little but stop. They are disk brakes.

I guess I just need tubes? The tread on the tires is fine. How much should I expect to spend for the guy to install them?

I don't need new handle bars but I want them. The current handlebars are just flatbars but they're in great condition.
