Serious question: other than a dorky paintjob why would I want a carbon frame?
For minimal weight advantage? That doesn't matter to anyone except pros getting followed by a team car.
Also, what are some good alum road bikes with non shitty paint? Black and blue stealth bikes suck.
>>1006240
>I'm a poorfag who hasn't ridden carbon
>>1006240
Serious question: other than being too poor to afford carbon, why would you want an aluminum frame?
For a cheap minimal weight advantage? That doesn't matter to anyone except pro-wannabe poorfags.
Also, what are some good steel bikes with non shitty fanbases? Surly and Salsa bikes suck.
>>1006240
I would get carbon but I tend to ride really hard, and carbon has a tendency to either work or have a catastrophic failure that results in a bike being up your ass. So I'll stick to aluminum, thanks.
Who/why/what are you riding for anon?
>>1005221
'cause I like it. It's much more enjoyable to be out with a bike than a cage.
But I wasn't a passion, I started because I wanted to save money (and I finally ditched what I wanted to buy a road bike, hu).
Part of why I got started was to just meet new people and possibly make some friends.
Healthier and cheaper than anti depressants in the long run
Something that has always bothered me is due to the obesity epidemic plaguing the West doing physical activity or commuting by bicycle is seen as weird. Fitness in general is demonized, people over emphasize how you have to be SO CAREFUL when you're on a bicycle.
How about you be more careful about your fucking BMI over 25? How about you look at your own lazy and dangerous lifestyle and stop projecting your insecurities onto me?
I went to a family even the other day that is around 20KM away and has a few hills, I rode there and a huge amount of my extended family were there. We ate, drank and spoke for a few hours and then at 9PM I said I was gonna ride home. Everyone was offering to give me a ride and giving me looks like I was either unfortunate or retarded.
I'm not even that skinny for a cyclist and I'm not into it that competitively - I just like to ride and listen to podcasts, it's fun and takes the stress away but my family and some friends treat me like I've become obsessed or I'm engaging in risky behavior, nevermind the fact that they're all obese.
Anyone else deal with this shit?
>>1005035
I should add that I'm not even training with high intensity or attacking hills like a fiend, most of my rides I just spin and chill.
I don't even own lycra or clipless pedals (am thinking about getting some eventually) and my bicycle is made out of steel - I am casual as fuck but I don't know if I can even deal with their incessant bullshit should I get more into this hobby/lifestyle.
Its ok anon, i frequent /fit/ fat hate threads and basically thats how it is with all fat families. They dont like it when you improve yourself.
>>1005035
>people over emphasize how you have to be SO CAREFUL when you're on a bicycle.
Go back and read everything you've posted before this; you DO have to be careful on the bike if you don't want a Coke-fueled, dehyrated, raging cager, high on deep fried McMeals, to run your ass over.
>>1005036
I can feel your smugness from here. Have you considered that you might not know you're retarded?
>Be Australian
>Government hates cycling, cyclists and spending money on infrastructure that isn't more roads
>Makes laws that helmets are mandatory.
>Puts the fine at over $150
>Cyclists and motorists allegedly at war, fueled by tabloid Rupert Murdoch papers that constantly run articles about how cyclists are entitled, dangerous, idiotic and aggressive.
>Motorists can hit cyclists and lose their license for less than a year and face very weak penalties http://www.standard.net.au/story/2219242/i-just-dont-care-texting-p-plate-driver-hits-cyclist/
>NSW Government passes laws so that cyclists have to carry ID at all times and more than doubles all the fines and forces the police to enforce the laws very strictly.
>Infrastructure lags behind European cities
>City population increasing, cities getting more crammed, traffic becoming a nightmare
>It's only ever going to get worse
Is there any way to win? I want my city to become more like Amsterdam or Copenhagen. Cycling is the future but it seems like our politicians just want to keep our cities congested, running less efficiently, promoting obesity and pumping more carbon into the atmosphere.
>>1004252
Sounds like you should find a more mature hobby? Don't want to be treated like a child? Don't act like a child and start driving a car like every normal adult.
>>1004255
Car driving isn't a hobby in any city over a population of 2 million. I live within a few km of the city center so cycling is faster, there is hardly anywhere to park and I'd spend most of the time sitting in traffic.
>>1004256
No, cycling is a hobby. Car driving is a means of transportation. I just said get a more mature hobby, even video games are more mature than riding around on a bicycle wearing a state-mandated helmet.
/n/, what do you do when you're on the train/subway/bus/etc and a cute girl sits or stands next to you?
>tfw was sitting on the subway and saw this fine ass mixed girl standing up a few rows down
>person next to me gets off the subway and she takes the empty space seat next to me
>doesn't even have headphones in like most girls
>i just stare out the window with my headphones in too nervous to even say anything and don't even know how i would start up a conversation on the train
>>1003694
Give her the D. In public. She obviously wants it. Also, sage.
I take the TTC a lot and I have this issue too, plz help me n
Alternatively you could just leave everybody on public transit alone unless they are intruding on your space
Close your eyes and dream about when you get to go home to your squat rack, protein powder and trainer
Old one is DONE FOR
Have a second skinwall tire on the way, but the assymetric look is cool too.
Nothing new here
needs a better rider
Any cyclists here?
Posted your longest ride and how you got into cycling
>>70 miles
>>got fired from job and literally walked into a bike race
>100km
>just wanted to achieve that milestone, so I picked my bike and choose the hottest day of the year and worst hour. It went right, just kinda tired/dehydrated in the last 30km, as expected because I didn't eat properly before the ride.
I cycled when I was a kid, then I stopped at 14, then I returned to cycling to try feeling better and less deppresive at 25yo.
eh, something like 110 km I guess
I am not into long distances, though, I prefer like 3 hour rides maximum aka about 80 km.
>how you got into cycling
well, I got a bike as a kid and my parents took me out for some rides now and then and I enjoy it since then
>Any cyclists here?
No, wrong board.
why can't I buy Giant bicycles online?
>>1007454
They're too big.
For you.
>>1007454
>you can
>>1007455
no that's not what I meant, it's a brand
State 6061 black label for $450
Like-new condition
Should I buy it assuming condition is excellent? I like the bike a lot but I'm not sure if this bike in particular is worth that much.
>>1007182
What will you use it for?

Commutes and exercise
>want to go on a ride this morning

>can't go on a ride because I won't have Strava to record it
Nice false flag, foamer.

>end up in the 20s and 30s because muh miles rather than time spent on bike

>not realizing that they'll restrict your mobility and freedom on a bicycle simultaneously with fucking over cagers
Useful idiots, all of you.
Im relatively new to road cycling and somewhat of a natural pussy. I am pretty fast and climbing, and I love putting the hammer down on flats and squeezing out all the speed I can, but when it comes to descending I sieze up. I feel like the bike is out of control. I can maybe hold a 50kmh descent for a few seconds before I start squeezing the brakes and panicing about losing traction at speed or something going mechanically wrong. Pathetic.
Do you have any tips? Is it really just a matter of practicing? I get jealous when I see guys fly past me on descents and it's pretty demoralizing.
>>1006742
Stop being a pussy faggot
>>1006742
There's some technique to braking and cornering while descending (10 seconds in google will get you loads of good articles and videos), but ultimately being good at it comes down to you practicing and getting comfortable with going fast. If at all possible, find a long straight hill with no intersections that you can charge down and start building confidence in your bike, brakes, and aero tuck position.

Kind of what I expected to hear
Both me and my wife have nice (light) bikes
My 10 y.o. son has one that is not so nice (kind of heavy, not so good brakes, bought a while ago for 10$ at a yard sale)
Recently we started biking more and more (cooler weather) and:
1: it's hard for him to bike for more than a few miles
2: it's scary to go fast (brakes are really hard to apply (at least for him))
3: it's hard for me to put the bike on the bike rack and then take it off (it's heavy as fuck, like 50 lbs or so)
Can you recommend anything:
1: relatively light
2: under 2-300 used
3: available with 14"-16" frame?
Thanks in advance!
i have an old 16" steel full suspension w/26" wheels and its still heavy at like 32 lbs. If hes 10 hes gonna outgrow whatever you buy quickly but def put him on a 26" wheel if he can ride it. I regularly find old rockhoppers for like $150 at pawn shops.
>>1006634
50lbs was an exaggeration but even 30 is a lot (for me, especially because the bike rack I have has one position in front of the "stalk" meaning when I try to put it up there, I have to be really careful not to scratch the car)
16" is at the lowest limit he can ride right now (the one he has is 15 or so), if I get a 16, it should be good for a few years)
any recommendations regarding makes/models?
>>1006634
Also, in my area, pawn shops are waaaaaaaaaay overpriced (think MSRP minus 10%)
Hi! i'm looking to buy or build a long distance bike that can carry myself and my belongings. I play on traveling on the road and camping overnight. Any tips on finding the perfect bike for me?
If by "carry myself and my belongings" means "carry myself and my belongings for a retardedly long 1000+ km trip" get yourself an LHT. It's made of wrought iron or something like that.
Look for a used one though, a new one definitely doesn't belong to the budget tier.
>>1006313
fuji touring if you have the cash to buy new.
failing that, any quality 80's jap made touring bike will get you where you're going
>>1006402
Thanks boss!
>must wear seat belt in cars
>not necessary for buses or trains
>seat-belts aren't mandatory on buses or trains
Or cruise ships. wtf is up with that?
In my country, at least on long distance buses, you're required by law to use the seatbelt. On a train it doesn't really make too much sense since the train will hardly ever come to a quick enough stop to warrant them (unless you crash against another train or something)
For urban buses it'd be too much hassle.
Seatbelts are both in airplanes and cars: I truly do believe they should be available at least as an option on buses and trains. I've seen a couple nasty gifs of people in buses getting extreme injuries because they didn't have a seatbelt.
