I'm not a cyclist or anything I jus need one for 7-10 miles, what does /n/ recommend for a beginner?

Old ten speed, 90s rigid mtb, or pretty much anything mechanically and structurally sound that catches your fancy.

Kona Dew.

Beginner road cyclist here, been riding on vintage steel road bike until now, want to upgrade, but don't want to spend too much on it, B'Twin Triban 500 good compared to other bikes from the same price range? Any anons here riding them?

Never driven one, checked out the models. i would go with the 520 instead of the 500. The 520 has a carbon fork and a steeper top tube. Both features make the ride more comfortable. On top of that the 520 has Sora groupset.

I dont know if you could get something better for the same price as i dont follow the market anymore but ignore the elitists in here who will go "lol 3k minimum gotta go fast".
>>
>>999714

Yeah, 500 has a fucking hi-ten fork, of all things. Like really, not even aluminum. I'd definitely go with 520 for dat Sora and carbon fork, but well, I can't find it anywhere where I live. Not in Decathlon itself, not used.

And yeah, I honestly don't care about road bike elitism, I just want something simple, affordable and fun to ride on as a commuter and for longer trips occasionally, I don't even really race

I bought a 520 in May, having before only ridden city bikes and the like.

It has its ups and downs, as a first road bike, I love it, it's responsive, light(ish) and can take a beating.
You probably have downtube shifters on the vintage bike, so you'll love the shimano road bike shifters, the whole system is just so much better.
The tyres are a bit shit, but that's a small thing that you can change easily.
Also, might just be me, but the matte paint job reacts quite a bit with my salty sweat, so the top tube already has marks because of sweat dripping from my face.

As far as the groupset goes, the Sora is nice, although a bit clunkier to what I've imagined, if you can dish out 1000-1200€, try to get the 105 one, loads of people on this site highly recommend the groupset. The Sora on my bike does have a tendency to misalign, so I have to index it every 400-500km or so (don't know if that's often or not).
I really like the 3 front cog system, the 39 one is really handy for cruising, following slowpokes, accelerating and going "up" those mild 3-5% inclinations. If you really like to sprint, you'll sometimes miss the extra 2 or 3 cogs on the 50 one though.

The only realy issue is that the brakes have longer callipers, which means less torque on the tyre, which means less breaking power, it can be a bit scary on wet, tight turns when a car comes around the bend...

All in all it's a great entry level road bike for me and from my research it's probably the best you can get at this price range in terms of a new bike (maybe check Merlin as well though)

Personally though, I'll certainly upgrade to a 105 in a few years, when I'm ready to shill out more than 1000€ for a bike.

I want to buy new Cannondale bike, there is rim brakes and disc brakes options for the same series (Synapse) which one should I pick?

(I'm commuting, flat city no hills, maybe I go for a ride in rain or snow, long 100+ miles ride)

Sounds like you're leaning toward disc.

Both are fine options. Brace yourself for autismo responses that insist one is perfection and the other is satanic.
>>
>>999536
Disc brakes have better weather resistance and, in most cases, more stopping power. They are still easy to service, but can't beat the simplicity of rim brakes. The drawback is entry level disc brake sets are harder to modulate than more traditional setups. High end hydraulics are better tuned and suffer less from this.

I'm a mountain biker, so take it with a pinch of salt, as I value brake grip that'll put me over the bars and quick cooling over ease of use, as I do most of my braking going down steep trails
>>
You get better braking power on the disc but from personal experience it's a lot easier to service rim brakes so if you plan on doing your own bike maintenance then pick the rim, if you send it to a shop then go for the disc.

So yesterday I finally got hit by a car. Commuting in London this was just a matter of time, luckily I'm not too badly injured, just a sore back because the saddle went straight into my lower back, however my bike is pretty much done for.

I was stopped behind a car waiting in a pedestrian crossing and the car behind me didn't stop because he didn't see me because he was looking at his phone (I always look behind me when I stop to see what's there, signal, etc. and saw the whole thing).

The guy gave me his details and I took the registration plate for the insurance thingy, the police are coming to my house later today to take some details about all this shit.

The thing is that I know that if I could prove that the guy was on his phone when he hit me I could probably get some points on his licence and get him fined for several offences, but I have no way of proving he was on his phone, therefore I'm seriously considering buying some action cameras to record this kind of BS of which I get close calls pretty much daily and take careless drivers to court if needed.

So I have some questions, how should I go about making the guys insurance pay for my bike? I suppose the cops will advice me on this later today but asking /n/ will not hurt either.

Also any recommendations on action cameras? I want to buy two, one for my helmet and another one to record what's behind my bike.

I refuse to "Commute Like a Sardine in Brine" using TfL.

I thought London was full of street security cameras, can't you use those to prove he was on his phone?
>>
>>998862
lmao actually I'm one of those guys who thinks the NL is not as bad as everyone says it is.

>>998864
That's in central, this shit happened in a residential area with less cameras. This kind of shit almost always happens outside Zone 1, don't know why, but most people I know who had an accident in London told me it was somewhere outside central, go figure. More chavs I guess.

Hello. Any MTBcyclists here ?

I am looking for my first proper mountain bike after doing my time with Nishiki hardtail, which is a great bike honstly, but I want and need more.

The problem is that I really have 0 knowledge about the bike parts and part makers and their quality and this is why I've come here to try my luck.

The thing is that I really fancy a DH bike, but the bike should be fit enough for enduro type cruising in the woods on trails and completely off-road. DH bikes tend to be too heavy and the suspension too "wiggly" for that purpose, I hear.

If there is anyone who did DH, FR or enduro I would love to hear your opinion on the matter.

>pick related
its the bike I have my eyes on right now. would be 1500€, used but good conidition.

I post the part list below.

I don't mean to challange your knowledge, the sole fact is that I really and honestly just don't know about these bikes.

Could you explain in a bit more spefic manner why DH and park bikes are so unfit for other styles of MTbiking ?

I do know they are heavier but is that the biggest issue ? Since if it is, I don't see it as so big problem since this bike for example would be +3kg to my current one.

is it entirely down to tyres? geometry?

what would you have to do to make a downhill bike that can lean well?

Yeah I can't stand helmets. On a motorcycle it's fine with all the cushioning and danger around but some bike helmets are so uncomfortable.

I only wear them when I'm commuting pretty much.

Can't really stand stuff on my head in general. Even sunglasses annoy me.
>>
desu I like wearing a helmet. As long as you're not climbing up a mountain on 35 °C it's fine.

I even have one of those fancy aero helmets. Probably makes me look like an idiot to anyone who doesn't cycle but I'm also wearing nothing but few mm of Lycra and have shaved legs. So not wearing a helmet wouldn't really help in the not looking like an idiot to non cyclists department.

Oh we have plenty of space apart. We don't live together and do our own thing through the week, spend weekends together. We basically do our own exercise separately. I hate the whole gym thing and she's hella paranoid of cagers running her over.

She's very much into gym classes like les mills(?) Etc, but wonders why she can't develop thicc legs and bootay.

We do hike a lot together though which is cool.
