Are they like printer paper? I was hoping for something with texture
>>
>>2714897
They're not anything like printer paper. It's a very thick sturdy paper that can take a lot of abuse. It's incredibly smooth, so it feels like it's almost glossy when you draw on it as the pencil just glides along the surface. Imagine smooth newsprint but without the soft give of the paper because it is thicker and stiffer.

Can someone who actually knows about art and isn't a manga doodling teenager (99 percent of /ic/ are the latter) please explain to me why people pay $12,000 dollars for lara merretts paintings when all she does is throw ink on a canvas?

I could make something similar for about $300 dollars in a couple of hours and nobody would even pay me more than what I spent making it.

ITT:Tell everyone about your local art shop and gallery/museum.

Art shop: A nice little art shop that has been in the same locations for a long time, always has a very nice selection of Winsor and Newton artists oil, lots of different materials and a good selection of books, can always have a conversation with the guy who works there and he saves me mildly damaged orders of tubes of paint that aren't saleable.

Museum: It's the Joseph Wright gallery and museum, I have been going there since a small child and it is amazing, it has lots of Wright's (English enlightenment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Wright_of_Derby) paintings and a huge collection of animal bones, Egyptian mummys and ancient artefacts from Britain's past.

Long Beach, CA. USA
>Local Art Shop

They're pretty chill. All around nice people. If they don't have what you're looking for in stock, they will either order it for you, or call up another local shop down the street and ask if they have it. Either the owners are friends, or they're just that nice. They have a great selection of brushes, and inks. They even have pen nibs you can buy individually instead of just getting the speedball set. They alwas have a 30% off deal for art students, and constantly have sales. I always stop by when it's a new school session for their $5 hardbound sketchooks.

Don't know much about the local galleries or museums. The art scene here in Long Beach is practically non-existant, and very beach town-ish, unless you count the murals on buildings. There is a museum of Latin american art, but I have yet to stop by and visit. I usually go to the Getty in Los Angeles.

aye long beach reppin. I go to lb state, but i'm from la. you a student too or just a local?
>>
>>2715447
Sup bro.
Not really a student. I'll take a few art classes here and there at the community college for the studies and training, but I mostly just draw on the side and do comics. Been meaning to take the next level of figure drawing since the last class really helped with my skills, and being in that sort of atmosphere was a lot of fun.

How you liking LB state?

Hey anons, I'm starting a webcomic proyect and I would like to get some fast feedback and honest opinions since I'm in the early stages of depeloping it, and that gives me enogh room from improvement and changes. I almost finished the prologue of the comic and I may change a little the style of the comic and the formating.

You can check the comic here: https://tapastic.com/series/Everlot

My main problem is the pacing.
Everything is too rushed
The first two pages are pretty well paced. You get time to actually appreciate what's happening.
Past that feels very rushed and it's hard to figure out what's going on at a glance.

>Page 3
First two panels are fine, third panel it's hard to realize that she went outside just off that image.
I would have done something like a closeup of her hand reaching for the doorknob or something, or actually having her midway through the door leading outside.
A panel with her outside before it starts raining (I'd do this as a kind of top view, so we see a larger view of the outside, maybe even having the pool partially in shot), then doing the panel-in-panel of her noticing it starting to rain. And finally the panel with her attention being grabbed.
I think this would be better over two pages or at least most of it in one page and then the rest for the first half or so of the next page.

I'm not gonna go in-depth with the other pages, but going forward just put more thought into making things clear to the reader without telling the reader

The girl speaks/thinks too much to herself.
You could essentially get rid of every speech bubble from page 3 to 5 and it would be a lot better.
You don't have to TELL the reader what's happening. It's a comic. You should SHOW the reader.
As it is right now though it may be a bit hard to figure out but if you can get the reader to understand what's happening without writing a single word of the character's thoughts then your comic will be way more interesting to read.
I like the first page and the last 3 panels of the page 2 for this reason.
You don't really need the speech bubbles in the third page to tell what's going on or what the character is thinking.
You can tell that she's curious about the fairy based on her expressions and actions, and you can see that the fairy is going somewhere and that it's starting to rain.

Gonna stop here because character limit and cbf

thing I think. Out in street no shit is going to buy your art like simply noI mean if you like your local stuff then go for it but if you lurked to much over the internet and youre already 'plugged' i guess you wont like that real shit and tryin to copy that style simply wont work so You Need A Domain And A Hosting for yourself. you own your image brand whatever everything youre whenever you want to can tell your site whoever you want it's free no limited connects offers cards or whatever you can go the feed of someone else what the rss take the 1000+ blogs and go one by one telling your shit your site everything. you tell them what you love and how you love it and they say yes or no and some will say yes and some will say no that simpel. in your place no one is likely to like your own stuff you like. like i mean who knows james holden here? nobody or shadow dancer? nobody but some may know about deadmau of course he posted here on 4c and some may know maybe jon hopkins since the man did magic music and maybe someone knows tim hecker or not i dont know the thing is that it just end ups being it doesnt meatter you like your own stuff and nobdy else has the same preferences if only your girlfriend but that is not bussniness

So buy domains request hostings and make them almost is what we need we dont need liars 25cents one.com you only have 512MB disk space disk space?? is 512MB bandwitdh youre simply telling me dumb and you think i am because pretty much all of you all LOL JK but they can just make people believe a hosting is only .25cents a month but youll only get that bandwidht similar to that phones in thes 2008. just like 512MB is not the memory nor shit but the bandwidht and im talking about one.com but i think ill go for inmotion. idk.

So make a drawing a day and kill yourself just prepare before your hearing voices and stuff but oh crap youre artwork will be awesome.

If you want to seel your art you need your space. forget bandcam forget etsy forget shapeways 3d hub scupteo reverbnation topspin noisetrade all of that shit that's nothing youre just another product and theyre the thing selling the stuff. you dont make your music you make their music like theyre a world of their own people go there and say ok these guys didnt make it to labels so they selling here throu this people they know in before the music wont be the best out there is just will be the best music of that particular community and it will be just the music that interest to the grow of the community like it is not even the interest of the artist but the community, it simply not great and goes pretty much the same for any online descentralized-indepedent shop society6? all their clones? none of that it's cool but your artwork wont never likely make it.

So you need your own space your .com your hosting. make hostings almost free request hosting go pay hosting is just 2-5$ a month and youre really making interesting stuff none of that cdbaby distrokid tunecore and the likes that not even seel your music. can you even track stats there?? is pure crap. for 5$ or less youre in your own space like your local in reallife stret and you can go blogspots ezines blogs like techcrunch venturebeat but art realted of course and look over the frakin millions of blogs and ezines out there you can even go look reallife zines of ur zone but thats more like a different thing I think. Out in street no shit is going to buy your art like simply noI mean if you like your local stuff then go for it but if you lurked to much over the internet and youre already

Is it okay to do so?
Sometimes i just print some really neat lineart and put it on my wall in front of me to make me more inspired/motivated.

BUT it also one of reasons of why i never posted photos of my drawing place anywhere in the internet - because im afraid if artists will see it and say "Umm :\ You know you stole someone's property right? :\ If you like this artist-support him by buying this print :\"

Like now i wanted to post really good photo of my place on Memebook but then noticed that some bits of shitty prints here and there on the wall semi-visible. But its clearly visible who drew that. Everybody who follows me also knows those artists (you probably too) and i wonder if it will be bad to show this stuff...

i would like to hear about your personal experiences on the artists path.
