Do you have friends with non-popular artists? Think about why you are friends with them in the first place. Now compare your friendship and try to relate to being friends with a e-celeb artist. Would you suddenly be treated differently?

Would such a friendship only happen because your work is on par with theirs or slightly better? Did the reasons I mention already apply to your current friends? Are you ACTUALLY friends with your current friends or are they people you just talk to daily?

And are the people you look up to from afar, who seem to have plenty of friends, actually don't have that many friends and it only appears that way to you.

The friends I have online are all artists, but we all aren't that good. It would be nice to have that one friend that's better than all of us to help guide us to becoming better artists and we learn from.
Ive noticed most people these e-celeb artists are friends with don't even draw at all. They are usually spectators that just watch all the time during a stream or something and mod while the artist is working. Its ENRAGES ME

Short answer:

By using clothing, furniture, objects, etc., etc. that fit the character.


Long answer:

You first have to establish some kind of personality and background of the character before you can make sensible decisions about his or her appearance. -> What, when, where, why, who, how?

-What kind of occupation or role does he/she have?
This establishes basic environment and potential clothing or accessory requirements.

- When was he/she born/raised?
This tells you not just age & possible physical appearance, but also cultural frame of reference. Did this person experience the Great Depression, the Cold War, the Eighties & collapse of USSR, etc.? How does this shape your characters ideas and tastes?

- Where was he/she born/raised?
In North America, South America? Europe? Africa? In which country? This also sets a cultural background. Again, how does this influence his/her ideas and tastes?

- Who is this person?
After you know where and when this person was born and raised, you can decide in what social and economic class your character was raised. Rich South-African family? Poor Russian single parent family? Middle-class Kansas farming family?

- Why does the character do what he/she does?
Now you can figure out your characters motivation. The underlying motivation, that is. Is the character self-destructing due to shame of family crimes, or overcompensation for a poor childhood?

- How does the character do what he/she does?
By using violence? By using honesty and kindness? Or maybe sly, calculating intelligence? Finally, this too can be reflected in the characters appearance.

Secondly, you have to do research. Educate yourself. Build a visual library. How can you build a believable and original character if you do not know anything about the What, When, Where, etc. How do people from different times and cultures dress? How do they live?

- Christie's online catalog and other online catalogues of auction houses. Wonderful stuff...
- Online photo catalogues of various museums. Not just art, but costume, social history, antiquity, etc.

Do you ever put thought into stylistic choices, colours or more symbolic things with the character, or do you aim to be as realistic as possible with aesthetic?

I always appreciate when people try to get feelings into their artwork and have it associated with some sort of personal meaning like this.

Honestly though I feel it's not getting across all you are saying. I tried makign a few changes, starting by stretchign it horizontally to get it to feel like mroe of a vast landscape we are in so we sense that isolation coming across more. I also darkened the images a bit and added more fog to get more mood in there. I added a second bit of land on the left to balance it out, but made sure to treat it differently than the one on the right by having more fog in front of it. It's still a very bare image so I think getting some nice brushstrokes in the water and on the land to show more depth and make it more interesting is necessary.
