he seems like a chill person in private. I like his story telling. The quality of his artwork varies a lot tho
Alright, I want a tablet. It's either a medium intuos or huion 610pro. I always hear that wacom tablets are very popular so I'm not sure. It's just the price is basically triple that of a huion 610pro but isn't the actual screen of a huion bigger than the intuos? I don't..
>>2713752
I've got an intuos4 medium that I've been using for almost 7 years now, and really like it. This year I started to get some small connection problems with the wire, but it actually has two ports so I just switched to the other one and it works fine now. Never tried the huion so can't say anything on it. Just wanted to chime in that even if wacom is more expensive they have a reputation to last a long time, I have known other artists who used their tablets for like 10 years without problems.
>>2713752
Always go wacom. Always.
>>2713763
Wacom, pls

The absolute greatest artistic tool in the entire universe: the office ballpoint
Personally I think the Biro is hugely underrated, it's as dark as a pen but allows for the same pressure control as a pencil, the ink never fades and they're cheaper than compost. The only think scaring me away from using them more is the occassional smudging, but with some practice I feel like I could avoid that.
I also used to make mini landscape sculptures using bluetac and felt tips but I can't find any of them now.
>>2713298
Ballpoint pens are super popular for sketching so I'm not sure how it classifies as underrated.
The main disadvantage I guess is that they are not archival from what I hear.
>>2713298
>ballpoints
>not using a $1200 fountain pen
>>2713298
get yourself some PITT brush tips. That is the ultimate in stroke control. Faber Castell sells disposable pretty cheap online. Or I have to agree with ^ this guy. Fountain pen for the win :D
is it cheating or some how less efficient if I used the pen tool to go over my lineart/sketch in photoshop?
even on a cintiq with an app like lazynezumi or hejstylus, I still get some pretty crappy lines most of the time that I have to keep redoing so my line art looks clean.
I don't mind taking the time to get gud at something like this, but the problem is my school don't give a fuck about my desire to not rush and I constantly have deadlines to meet between six art classes every week.
nope, just get the job done and move forward
>>2714192
Isn't pen tool way slower than drawing by hand? Who cares if your lines aren't perfectly clean anyway while you try to get better at it?
>>2714192
No rules just tools.
It's been a long time since I've seen one, so I wanted to try making one. I wanted to post mine for some time. Hope I can get some insight in what I really lack right now and what would help me get to the next level. Other comments are also always welcome
>>2699492
>lots of improvement
>>2699494
I know, it's not a lot and I'm still a beginner. I've seen a lot better ones, especially pic related, but I don't even dream of this kind of improvement. Right now I just would like some pointers on speeding up a bit.
>>2699502
That improvement was actually a fake, anon
Gonna post some shit I've been doing. Fucking obliterate it. I want to get better.

Are there any art communities / boards online like ic but less toxic?
>>2710549
Smaller, more niche Facebook groups. Basically anywhere where peoples real identity are attached to their posts.
>inb4 brutally honest anonymous critique
Face it - anonymous posting is why /ic/ sucks. Anonyminity has less pro's than con's when it comes to critique. People should be accountable for their remarks, and - believe it or not - you can actually be brutally honest without being a dick
>>2710553
the safety people get from anonymity is what let me git gud, anon. i was bad for so many years and had no idea. ic tore open my asshole but it made me see the light. i'm truly thankful for it.
>>2710564
Same here! I didn't realize how many things were wrong with my drawings because no one pointed these things out. It was just asspats all around. This was around 2006, and the asspat culture has only gotten worse. The toxic nature of /ic/ is why I'm here in the first place. "What the fuck is wrong with those legs?" is a hundred times more useful than "Love the way you colored this!"
What would be the most easily portable paints? Oil, Acrylic, Gouache, watercolor?
>>2713502
Gouche and/or watercolour are the most easily portable. Acrylics or oils can be made to be portable but will require more thought and effort to make them compact and easy to bring out.
>>2713502
You can improvise a watercolor tin that's as small as you want, + a waterbrush or pocket brush and small water container. With other paints you're limited to carrying tubes. Dried gouache can still be rewetted but won't really have the same consistency.
>go to art supply shop
>water brush costs the same as airbrush
what a world we live in

Whenever you place people down in a drawing, do you treat them as their own separate entity relative to the vanishing point, or do you relate them entirely to the vanishing point as if their limbs are tree logs parallel/perpendicular to various VPs?
>>2713423
Do you sit there and just quickly feel how the forms would look after you designate the position of the limbs, or do you break it down into a box and think about how that box looks in accordance with the eye level, what direction it recedes to, etc.
I'm shit at perspective so take this with a grain of salt, but it mostly depends on your goal for the drawing.
If you're doing some some odd angle where the perspective of the individual is important to the composition - say, giantess porn where they're about to step on you or someone reaching towards the viewer or some shit - you'll probably want to take more care with perspective on a limb by limb basis. If you're doing a relatively static pose you can probably just do a general one for the body.
Is 5 hours a day of art fundamentals enough to eventually become a professional?
How long will it take at that rate?
How long do you guys study on average?
http://www.strawpoll.me/11419118
>>2712656
You could do 30 minutes a day and it'll still be enough to eventually become a professional.
Impossible to calculate and doesn't matter either.
Like 5 hours a week or something.
>>2712658
OP here
You're absolutely right, but it would take forever.
I need to be a pro in 2-3 years.
Does anybody know if that'll do the job?
>>2712662
If a school can pump out pros in a certain amount of years then an individual can do the same.
Anyone had any experience with "Weatherly Gude to Drawing Animals"? I've heard from a couple of people it's a really good book, but anyone here on /ic/ got it/read it?
Is it worth it?
yah i heard its alright
