Hey /ic/, how is your practice method/routine? I can't seem to find the perfect blend between getting better fast and personal satisfaction (so please, refrain to recommend stuff like "draw 2500 heads, then 5000 torsos"), sketches and finished pieces, and so on...
>>2719978
There's no magic answer to this because it depends on your goals and how you learn best. You'll have to find the balance yourself for what proportion of studying vs creative work you do. I've known of people who need to do tons of studies or else they don't improve, and I've known people who only paint from their head and never do studies but improve a lot because they are very analytical and grind on theory.
You can also try to blend the two, so bring in creative elements to studies. Maybe if you are painting a photo study you can try painting the same lighting and colours and materials and subject amtter, but try to paint it from a slightly different angle. Or try to come up with a composition based on the study.
At the end of the day I think consistent practice is more important than the exact practice you do. If something is 90% effective but you do it once a week you will improve on a fraction of what you would if you did a study that is only 50% effective but you did it every day.
My routine needs a lot of work and I'm sort of bad at applying it, but I generally like to work in terms of monthly goals. It's long enough to really retain something but short enough that it doesn't get too boring.
Basically I'll set a monthly goal that's relatively broad but based around something I'm bad at, like "Perspective" or "Composition" or "Faces". Then I'll try and work that into my practice for that month in more specific exercises. Not that I need to do it exclusively, I generally aim for something like 15 hours worth of practice towards my chosen topic.
Lately I've been trying to work imagination into my routine in a more serious way of retaining what I study. Previously I've done mostly photostudies and became pretty competent at rendering, but that doesn't get you very far.

Start by taking inventory. Work out how much time you have free to practice in/ how much time your energy will let you practice. Then make a list of all the things you want to practice and rank them in order of what is most important to you. Then set up a routine, it can a one day or multiple day plan. Put the things most important to you first so they will definitely get done, I put creating art as the first thing since there is no point gitting gud if you aren't going to use your skills to make some art. Put the less important stuff later, if your practice gets interrupted at least you got the important stuff done. Then put a list of little bits and pieces it might be interesting to practice if you have more energy than usual one day.
so, um like, this is my newest painting, its entitled repercussions, took me like a month from scratch, what do you guys think?
rate from 1 to 10?

I know you're trying to make fun of Irakli, but you're just proving how skilled he is because your little photomanip here is not even 1/100th as good as his work.

Looks just like a photo!
I m a performing artist, and I m planning a piece to support victims of domestic violence. This involves me looking like a victim, I plan to injure myself to a certain degree to appear as horrifying to a passerby as possible. I would like to know, is there an easy way to give yourself highly visible bruises? I m not worried about the pain it can cause, I have sufficiently trained myself to withstand pain.

you know makeup exists right? and it's sufficiently advanced to make it look extremely realistic
the fuck
>>2721646
yes i know, but i dont want to use makeup because its expensive and it's not genuine.
Just wondering what weird or creepy reference pics people have. Not overly edgelorde tho.
What's the best iOS alternative for Photoshop? Been using Pixelmator for a couple of years now, but it really sucks, and that free Photoshop trial spoiled me.

You brought it on yourself
from a PURELY artistic point of view, do you prefer capitalist or communist-styled propaganda?
no politics please.
Well, you can't forget that there wan't just capitalism and communism as their only differences. so to narrow down those as the only influence is wrong to do. From what I understand the USSR were mainly atheistic and US had more Christians at the time. If you think about it, the capitalist propaganda looks to be more family centered. I'm sure there are more influences than what I just names.
>>2721497
Post some better examples.
And propaganda wasn't just limited to a decade, it went on until the end of the cold war really. You might want to post some more examples, and maybe name where it comes from - who it's for - and the artist.
I've never had any opinions on my art so I thought I'd ask /Ic/. What do you think? Potential or oh god stop.
>>2718817
more like this. more like this. come make art with me.
Fuck off and put it in /beg/. Your garbage doesn't need its own thread.
Russian mafia

Only 2 of you stupid snowniggers is doing the same hand sign why the fuck are you even posting this garbage here

Did you get lost on your way to /b/, faggot?
it's fun Э:Ъ
Is it more important to learn how to draw prior to learning how to render, or should you learn them side by side?
>>2721519
holy shit that's comfy.
cute chick
I'd say drawing is more important, but it doesn't hurt to practice rendering too. Rendering can help teach you form/light/colour/values/etc. Just do your drawing practice then try rendering it, you can get the best of both worlds.
Still, if I had to pick between being skilled at drawing and being skilled at rendering I'd pick drawing. Don't fall into the trap I did where I did tons of photostudies and got pretty competent at rendering but could hardly draw worth shit.

I liked the initiative. but as far as i can remember, /ic/ hates graffiti.
Don't expect much people engaging.

>Everyone's doing porn now.
What the fuck is going on? Is the industry dying or why the hell is everyone jumping ship?

It's just easier and less competitive than other fields, there's also a really low bar to get horny fucks to pay you.

money
>>2716932
I'm doing porn instead of working a day job, the rest of my time goes to real art. Gonna do this until I get a studio job or make enough with real art to drop porn.
It's easy money.
This is some art I made the other day. What can I do to improve? Aside from the obvious arm/leg proportion issues.
>>2721390
Anatomical bicep/tricep issues, no lats flat metal plating, overall unexciting design and presentation.
I'd advise keeping up the figure studios and reading, idk, some fucking book on character design. I like Matessi's Force but unless you know how to apply the concepts in a naturalistic way you'll probably discard it as cartoonist shit.
Either way, next time you should just post this in the Draw Thread. Not the beginner thread, because that shithole doesn't need to exist.
>>2721396
Thanks dude, I'll look at some anatomy books (Excited to check out Force!) And I'll try drawing some arms from multiple angles.
Having issues asking to be paid.
I did a painting for a lady I worked with a while ago, she had a dog she'd adopted from a rescue I work with and I got to know her and a dog pretty well, I studied that dog a lot and even did a few paintings of her one of which recently sold in a gallery for £180 (minus what the gallery took) when the dog sadly passed away I did a portrait for her of the dog for just the price of the materials (£30)
Trouble is she just came back to me saying her friend saw the painting I did wanted a painting of her dog that had passed and what the price would be. It would be around £120 with about 2-3 months waiting in line.
I feel like an arse charging her friend that kind of money when I only charged her £30 but I really can't just be doing free work. Even my family generally get charged unless it's a gift. this is my living.
How do I state the price without feeling like a twat? What do I do if she turns around and says "But you only charged her £30"?
You're an idiot who can't into business
>>2719731
1.the fuck? 120 bucks seems way to little for a nice oil painting familia. (except when you suck, then its nice cash and good on you)
2.Just tell her the price you want and say, that you made an exception for her because you knew and liked her dog. How is this even a question?
>>2719731
If she asks that question, shes a grade A bitch. Youre not some fucking art dispenser that works at a static price or some shit. Youre just some dude. Some dudes like to give gifts to people they know.
I sometimes do shitty design for my friends because they're my friends and I wanted to. If someone pulls the "They got it free tho/for cheap" card, they're either socially autistic or a manipulative prick.
Does anyone know what happened to Keun-chul Jang? I've been wondering for a long time now.
He never actually stopped doing art or anything, his work just gradually got worse over the years and I have no idea why. He was someone I looked up to once. Such a shame
>>2719631
>gradually got worse
i never got this. how? especially if youre still drawing regularly
>>2719625
anime is harder to draw.
