I looked, and maybe I didnt look hard enough but I've never seen /ic/'s opinion on art school?
What do you guys think?
A lot of my favorite artists went to art school and it makes me feel pressured that the next step for me has to be that.

>I looked, and maybe I didnt look hard enough but I've never seen /ic/'s opinion on art school?
/ic/ talks about art school constantly so I'm not sure how you missed it.
>Is it necessary?
No.
Will it help though?
Possibly. There's a million factors at play like which school, how hard you will work, what your current level is, what you want to learn, what your financial situation is, how good at making connections you are etc.
>So what should I do?
Do some research on specific schools and what they offer for what they charge. Are the instructors good? Are the students good? Are the students getting jobs? Will you learn just as quickly without school?
Degrees or diplomas don't mean much typically for getting work with some small exceptions like helping with work visas if you are foreign.
unlike other fields where you need a degree to get in the door, an art degree isn't really necessary unless you want to get into something academic like art history or restoration. an art degree has no inherent value, it's worth comes out of the work you put in to obtain it.
there are also tons of options for education outside of a traditional university. industry specific training programs and ateliers are far cheaper and just as viable as big name art schools.
you need to ask yourself:
>what do i want to do with art?
>do i learn more effectively in a classroom environment or from self study?
>given the field that i chose, how much money can i reasonably expect to make? is it enough to cover my education?
the most important thing is to get rid of the ego you have attached to the idea of school and try to make an objective judgement of what's actually best for you.
most of us had it drilled in from an early age that if you don't go to college, you're a failure who will work at walmart until you die. right now most of my friends who went to college are working dead end retail jobs with no relation to their field of study, while i'm working towards the things i actually want to do. i might just be scraping by on shitty porn commissions, but i'm able to do so because i have no debt.
>A lot of my favorite artists went to art school and it makes me feel pressured that the next step for me has to be that.
this is the worst sort of reason to make a decision. you aren't your favorite artists, you aren't your parents, you aren't me. you are your own person and you have to learn in the manner that suits you best; that very well may be school, but make sure not to neglect the other options.

I must be blind as fuck then, that's good advice though thank you.

This really opened my eyes to be honest, thanks.
Critique plz.
Have an solo exhibition coming up and here's a piece I just finished. Edited a touch but the matte medium is still drying.

Pretty dumb.
Can I do life drawing exercises on crappy printer paper? Pic related is a pretty good life drawing(IMO) and I'd like to achieve this level of realism in my studies.
But I'm assuming this isn't possible with just graphite & printer paper. Or is it? Would I need a drawing pad with special paper to achieve this level of tone & light/shadow when rendering?
My goal is to start by drawing objects around the house like chairs, sofas, tables, etc.
But whenever I post drawings that I think are realism I get flooded by people telling me they're photocopy-tier drawings. Apparently I can't tell the difference so I'm selecting the best examples I can find in Google.
But to be clear I would like to draw from life without photocopying or symbol drawing. Accurate rendering, proportions, volumes/forms, and ultimately take these skills out to draw things outside my walls.
But printer paper has no texture. It seems impossible to get a quality finished drawing on printer paper. But am I just really shitty so I don't know how? Or do I need a specific type like newsprint?
>>2718352
Printer paper is fine to work on. It's thin and you can only rework it so much, but it's acceptable. If you want to do long studies that are taking a lot of time and energy though just get some proper paper. Printer paper is only recommended when you plan on going through reams of the stuff doing lots of quick sketches.
Printer paper doesn't have enough texture to catch graphite the right way, that's why most artist who find themselves using printer paper will use ball point pens instead.
Help me if this doesn't go here. Just generalized anxiety free verse on a random piece of paper. Not sure if it belongs it /lit/ or what.
sorry, /ic/ is only for fantasy illustration and porn.

How's my art look /ic/? I know I have to work on feet, I just can't seem to draw them correctly.
really though, are these posts not yet reportable?

Sorry to burst your bubble buddy, but everything in your charcter is wonky. What happened to her joints? Only has 3 fingers on left and 4 on right. The torso cant connect to the head like that realistically. Character is standing in a very awkward position. You need to work on anatomy before you try to finish a piece
can i have a r8 too

It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Feng Zhu: “"There is no secret to drawing. The more you do it, the better you'll get. It's all about mileage. A lot of people try to look for shortcuts, but there aren't any. Just bite the bullet and do the work. There is no easy path."
Wanted to make the two feet distant from each others, did I push the perspective too much for the size of the right one?

Cute

the back foot looks fine, but the position of the front one is a bit weird, it's like is she flying?
What was /ic/ think of my album art? all done originally in sharpie then shopped with watercolors

Does anyone have an inkling for this kind of art?
Been going at this style for a few months now, not sure if i should work with it or not much more.
Thoughts?
>>2720450
It looks like gimmicky trash. The images are dull and it's not apparent that they're eyes. Also the pattern seems to fall apart at the apex. That being said it might look neat as a traditional painting. Maybe you could use it as a template to do something cooler. Iterate that shit.
>>2720451
what about this one?
some of these are just iterations of the same concept, the eye one i did notice looked very dull mostly just to my images being 4k+ pixels and that eye being only 900 at best and still blurry, thanks for the time ive been trying to emulate mandalas a bit through arrays in 3D modelng programs, seems to be a broad category of untapped art with lots of unique ideas to explore. I think ill have to take some lessons on lighting though i may have forgotten some basics along the years
does it bothers anyone here that everyone sucks dicks of people who spend a decade at best working hard as fuck to learn to do a skill, but never realize how hard was for them to get to that point.
Is like nobody realizes all the effort and years of hard work beyond elite or great artists.

lol okay faggot
Anyone here has any experience with makeup? I'm really interested in getting into it so spent a bit reading online, as someone who can already paint how hard is it to translate that into makeup? is it a completely different feel?
>>2720318
I'd imagine it's a different feel, yeah, since you're working on skin rather than flat paper, canvas, panel, etc. Might take a bit of getting used to but your skills should easily transfer.
Made a few short little visuals and i dont know how i feel about them.

being a game developer is my life dream.
but how do I overcome the feeling that I will die alone, being a failure with only shitty games and nobody giving a fuck about me.
I ask you here because you guys also are artists and share also this feeling.
You'll never escape this feeling. You have publish whatever you want regardless of what the reception is. Don't pussy out.
>>2719075
You feel this way because you set your bar way too high, have some humility and be realistic about yourself so you wouldn't disappoint yourself by these false expectations.
Who cares about what other people think of you? Just try learning what you want to learn because of yourself, not others.
> it got a DA Daily Deviation
Can't believe I tought back then that getting a DD was a big deserving goal for an artist.
I'm planning to do a my little pony cosplaying sailor moon to get DD on deviantart
>>2706722
>Can't believe I tought back then that getting a DD was a big deserving goal for an artist.
Why would you ever have believed that? Daily Deviations have always been full of shit with the occasional decent art mixed in.
>>2706730
Still half new and DA is the biggest english "art" site, so of course DD sounded like the best title you could get for a drawing.
Where do you guys get an idea what to draw (from your imagination, not studies)? Does it simply pops up in your head or do you have to plan what will you draw.
Im talking about the basic idea. No composirion, thumbnails, coloe schemes, designs etc yet in this stage.
>>2720104
usually you can spawn a good idea just by chatting with people and eventually something interesting will come up that's worth drawing.
>>2720104
Listening to music helps, it always brings up interesting memories and visions for me.
>where do you guys get your ideas
im smart, have good taste, and have a good sense of humor. try it sometime.
