It's "Tabaluga", character from polish cartoon

It looks spectacular OP. This is actually better than most of the stuff I see posted on this board. Bravo.
the best /ic/ has to offer
I was copying a random image i found for practice and everything seemed to be going well, but now I just feel stuck.
It feels like no matter where I try to pick up, it just feels or looks wrong. I've switching back and forth between viewing my image upside down and regular, but that seems to have only taken me so far.
Tips? Tricks? Advice?
my "drawing on the right side of the brain comes tomorrow, hopefully before class
Original pic for reference.
Thanks.

1. Never use lined paper.
2. Don't make your own thread
3. Don't draw anime until you're at least semi-competent with your fundamentals. You're not learning anything by copying someone else's drawing, not at that level.
>>2718753
1) The sketch pad comes tomorrow too
2) Sorry I'm new here, I happened upon the beginner thread while waiting.
3) I was mostly messing around, can't sleep. -_- but i'll bear that in mind.
Thanks again.
So I'm in the last chapters of the nazy hogart drapery book and I'm still having problems doing passive drapery (the ones you find just thrown at the floor, not hanging by other things) and wile I understood the theory of flow and direction and everything else, is drawing it what I can't do. Is there any tips or tutorials on this?
It's the only chapter I'm having problems.

Maybe your problem is perspective.

Any tips for cleaner linework?
I just realized one way to get myself to not press down so hard is to use a mechanical pencil with a bunch of lead exposed, it keeps breaking but even after 2 hours im starting to feel like i now notice when my hand is tensing up.
Still a big struggle to not draw 12 scratchy lines when one or two or three could have done tho.. Any simple tips?
>>2718570
>Any simple tips?
Draw from the shoulder more so there's less wrist flicking involved and try to get longer smoother lines.
Alternatively draw with either a fine liner pen or a fat marker. Either one will look like shit if you go over the line more than once or twice so you will be forced to be efficient and think before putting down each mark. They also have no "opacity" but are bold and black if the pen even barely touches the page, so you can't do a bunch of light lines either to try to get around it.
>>2718576
i was thinking pens make sense but it does get hard as hell when im trying to do reily abstractions on the head for example and i dont hit huge ovals perfectly. But its wortht it. maybe ill do every other day with pens only
just use pencil like a brush, draw lines so softly they connect into each other nicely, you can push down harder when you draw over it
I paid about $250.00 for this painting a couple years ago.
I still love it but what do you all think ?
>>2718568
I think you should gesso and paint over it.
>>2718568
its pretty bad desu. Looks like dude just made random strokes with pure black paint. The rest of the colors are really thinned out. Also what is this on? looks like a canvas board. I would buy this for a like a dollar, just cause I would gesso over it and reuse it.
>>2718574
Yeah, very thin smooth board.
How come no one ever told me the answer was to use this to be able to draw literally anything in a wide array of angles and views
>>2721093
It's a pretty modern concept.
It used to be just to draw a lot of things until you drawn it from every angle.

Erm, what was in OPs file?
Hey poo poo heads.
Wanna start an abstract art thread? Yeaah you doo.
I don't care it's yours or your favorite. Abstract thread.
This is now a cute asian girl reference thread

her lip is very abstract.
Sorry if this against the rules but how do I find someone to hire for a hentai commission?
>walk into convenience store
>take a bag of chips
>eat it
>walk out
Sorry if this is against the rules but I'm hungry
>>2720893
It's a paid job so not the same.
>>2720880
>find an artist that does porn you like
>look for commission information with prices
>don't bother them if they said commissions are closed
>If no information, you can message them and ask
>expect to pay 150+ for your porn.
First tablet but probably won't switch for a long time. Confused between the Huion GT-190 or a wacom intuos pro medium. For just a little bit more, you get a fully functioning screen tablet that's affordable. So what gives?
>>2720940
Don't assume something is better just because it costs more. You may not need a screen tablet, that's something that tends to come down to preference. A regular intuos pro forces better posture, which is going to be more comfortable when drawing for hours on end, unless you're used to drawing by holding your arm up.
the intuos pro is very responsive and offers great traction. I don't know whats the case for this tablet but if you're not buying a wacom you'll usually want to check what's the screen made of, how laggy it is. whether the pen needs batteries or not. There could be a big gap between the glass and the screen too. Drivers are a big deal also. A wacom will work out of the box with anything. It has to, it's the leading brand.
I would quite honestly just get an Intuos pro, anything version that isn't the small one. Trying out cintiq alternatives is more for when you already have a solid tablet you can rely on and it wouldn't be a total disaster for you if it ends up being a shitty product.
>>2721040
I see, thanks so much for that explanation. Definitely gonna look into an intuos
Ipad pro, yes or no?
Never tried it but I don't have much confidence in it. You'd be better of with an actual drawing tablet.
Better actual drawing mechanics than anything else, including Wacom, but lol ios, so take it as you will
also, ipad pro 2 is due "soon"

I just got an Android Tablet, what's the best free app for drawing on Android?
Are camwhore photo packs good enough for studying female anatomy?
Are photos as good as learning from real life?
>Are camwhore photo packs good enough for studying female anatomy?
No.
>Are photos as good as learning from real life?
No.
>>2720867
Why waste money supporting a whore. Their pics are usually low quality so no.
And no photo are not good as life.
Good enough? Probably. Good? Not really. Considering the vast options you have thanks to the internet, camwhores are some of the worst photos you can study. With a good photographer lens distortion generally isn't an issue, but selfies with shitty camera phones actually do cause problems. Find some quality photography, there are people who actually compose and light shots. Even porn is better than camwhores. The only benefit I can see is if you can get a slut to tailor pose for you.
>Are photos as good as learning from real life?
This is situational. Being able to see stuff with your own eyes in three dimensions is an asset, learning to translate 3d to 2d that way is useful for learning. Photos flatten your subject, inevitably.
That said, there are some poses where photos are absolutely better. If you want something dynamic, getting a model to strike an action pose is going to look retarded. Trying to life draw an action pose either gives you a two second window or the model has to hold a pose, and most dynamic poses aren't 'balanced' (you can't hold yourself in a running pose, and you can fucking tell when someone is running on the spot). That said, 90% of stock photos of action poses are still shit because they still hold the pose and take the picture of it.
Same with animals. Sometimes studying animals from photo ref is better because good luck getting them to sit still. Doing it in real life is still good practice for capturing gestures and working from memory, but don't fall into the trap that half of /ic/ has fallen into that "life always = good and photo always = bad."
tl;dr camwhores are shit, it's easy to find better anatomy refs, study from photos and from life.
So a couple months ago I tried out pointilism and decided I like it and it's the only style I've ever been semi decent in. At the moment I'm using ball point pens which seem to work well. Everything I do is just guesswork however, is there any go to ways to go about doing this?
DAMN THIS SHIT LOOKS LIKE MY EX BRO!!! POST SOME NUDES!!!

At what point can a person call themselves a professional?
>I see people selling DeviantArt adoptables for points using the moniker
If you are able to support yourself from art alone and live at least decently - then you are professional.
Selling commission is nice one step towards the goal, but really, you won't be able to pay bills from $50 commissions.
Also, you are professional when you behave professionally - be polite and fast-responsive to clients, asking for their budget ir alternatively stating all your terms, deadlines, schedule for project, number of fixes you are willing to do for free etc., having a contract, keeping self-imposed deadlines and quality...
If you are like that and a lot of people are willing to pay for your work/queue for it, then you are a professional.
Alternatively - working in studio.
As the other anon said I'd argue it's when you can make a living on your craft, even if it's a modest living. He has a good point on acting professionally too. I mean you can have professionals who "act unprofessional" but it's unbecoming.
I mean if you really want to split hairs on the term "profession" then you could say you're a professional as soon as you get paid, but you can get paid by somebody for a lot of things. If some guy throws you $10 to help him move his couch you're not really a professional mover.
>>2720494
>but really, you won't be able to pay bills from $50 commissions.
Depends on your popularity and workflow. Keep in mind if you were pumping out two paid commissions a day at that rate you'd be beating most mcjobs.
>>2720494
>but really, you won't be able to pay bills from $50 commissions.
>implying
It depends on your location.
Because of currency exchange etc, where I live, in Poland, doing 2 commissions per week would be enough to rent a flat and pay your bills (it costs around 1600PLN = 400$).
Doing whooping 3 commissions per week would give you 600$ = 2400PLN per month which is quite decent. Average teacher in a high school earns that much.
Critique would be appreciated =)

It looks like you tried your best to photo copy. Try not to get too worked up on detail, and focus on fundamentals.
