Does anyone have a proper file for this Mullins painting? This one is kind of low res and blurry and covered by that huge logo.

I'm interested btw because it seems to be a different version of this painting. I want to see how it all extends to the left and how he treated things with a different colour cast.

They're not even shooting at eachother. Obviously that's because it's a painting jammed into another painting but still.

I also find it interesting how logos and title fonts turn a pretty good painting into a tacky piece of shit. I have to force myself to ignore the logos to actually see the painting underneath is pretty good

So I was looking at upgrading my old Wacom Tablet and I was looking at the Intuos Pro and Jesus Christ that thing is huge! It's about an extra five inches longer than my old one. But the difference in Active Area is only .3 in. x .3 in.

why is it so much bigger overall but no increase in active area. Is it even worth it? I just want more active area to work on. or should I look at some other tablet company?

What do you think of my WIP?
Based on the Deku Scrub from the Legend of Zelda.
This is for a character i plan to RP with or possibly (probably not) write a short story on.
This page is only what i have done so far.
Ask any stupid questions you want ill try and answer them.

Think you need some more practice amigo. I mean, it's not terrible but I feel a lil more practice will do you some good. Do you plan on drawing any more pieces or have you? Also what's the bamboo leaf thing supposed to be?
>>
>>2709851
OP Here.

All items are from "The Legend of Zelda" series of with some liberties taken with some the material. The leaf is from Wind Waker, its called the "Deku Leaf".

Other then that i did this useing a mouse and pad, dont own a graphics pad... yet.

this looks like you're not going out of your comfort zone

Does this explain why some people, myself included, can't draw? Is Aphantasia the answer people who claim they have no talent is looking for?

naw everyone can imagine things just some people have to actually put more effort into it than others. Also having an imagination or not has nothing to do with drawing ability.
>This thread is dumb.
>>
>>2705826
No, this wouldn't affect your ability to draw from reference or respond to what is already on the canvas. Your lack of drawing skill can be attributed to laziness and never practicing.
>>
>>2705828
Not OP, but I can draw from reference perfectly and am still terrible at drawing from imagination. This has probably more to do with the fact that I've practiced drawing from reference much more than from imagination, but I do wonder if other people are naturally better at forming mental pictures than I. When I try to visualize something, the result is pretty vague.

Just turn down the spacing slider and mess with some of the scatter options etc. All on a regular hard round. Chalk brushes etc dont just appear, they're made from a standard brush by messing with the options already provided.

Hi /ic/. I've been trying to get better at drawing hands from imagination. My typical routine goes somewhat like this:

>fill a few pages with sketches of hands from reference photos
>fill a few pages with sketches of hands from imagination

I was just wondering if this is the best process I can follow in order to grind learning how to draw something from imagination. Typically I spend a few minutes on a sketch before moving on to the next, both for drawings from imagination and from reference photographs. Should I be investing more time into more complete drawings? Say, I don't know, spending 30 minutes to copy and render a hand from a reference photograph. I'm considering doing this just to spice things up a bit as drawing hands for 10 hours can get pretty repetitive after a while, though I'm willing to face the grind if it's the most efficient method available.

What are your thoughts, /ic/? Are quick sketches better than fully-rendered drawings for learning to draw hands?

first draw from memory (=reference), then reference, then memory
>>
There's a general way to learn to draw anything from imagination which is applicable to anything, hands included.
1) You do a study - draw a hand from reference(but constructing it with basic forms, NOT just mindlessly copying the outlines)
2) You draw it from memory, again using construction. After you finish it - open ref, and fix what was wrong, it's also good to write down what needed fixing. That's how you'll be able to track your progress easier, figure out your common mistakes.
3) Repeat
4)??????
5)PROFIT
>>
I used to just hold my hand out in a pose and draw it, but also observing the way it works and how it moves.

Anyone else start out as weeb trash, but shift over to traditional art over the course of your journey? I started out just wanting to draw my waifus, dreading having to draw big scary realism. Now, I never want to draw anime at all. Most of it is so shit, lacking any value aside from cell shading, facial features are just one or two lines or a dot. Originally the simplicity of it allured me, but after learning so many things, the power at my disposal to create much more dynamic images excites me more. Anyone else?

I'm the complete opposite.
>start off in realism because drilled by /ic/ to have strong foundation in fundies before bothering with "muh style"
>completely unable to draw the weeb shit which I aimed for all along because too scared I don't have a strong enough mastery of the fundies for their to be any point
>>
>>2701210
yeah it's by Dave Rapoza, the man is real good.

Also on a side note, if you image search the OP pic it shows up as "Dave Rapoza Sketch" How good do you think you have to be until google starts recognizing your distinct drawing style?

I think basing your digital art business around people buying your images is fucking retarded and you should have realized piracy was inevitable.

Hell, if his shit is any good, hard copies won't change shit. Scanlation was a thing before this guy even started drawing.

This sounds like absolute hell. Reading on various sites, I've come to learn that "crunch time" is killing the developers in the industry slower. Working 80+ hours a week isn't uncommon.

I get that people have passion, but why work in an industry that wants to take full advantage of you? I agree that it's really fucking cool to work on game development and to be part of that, but is it worth it?

Personally, I'm leaning towards trying out as a freelance artist, even though that's harder to succeed in. What do you think?

Sounds pretty lame to me.

Listen to Feng Zhu if you want to know about it.

Just do whatever you want to do, nobody here knows anything about you.

isn't that more on the coding side of things? I'm sure the hours are tough for artists too but I haven't heard of them having crunch time.
>>
>>2710646

I dunno mate, it seems to be an all-encompassing thing for the company. Even writers have crunch time, according to Amy Hennig:

If I'm a poor character designer, can I learn the basics of design to get better, or is it something innate to the mind of the artist regardless of art fundamentals?

Is conceptualization the "talent" that people speak about?

If I don't have much of it, but I have plenty of technical skill can I make it as an illustrator?

Design is all about knowing what looks good nowadays.

>>2711814
It's a combination of having a strong visual library, your personal taste and an understanding of the principles of design. No one has the talent to just be good at design.
