who decided what the basic forms are? how are they decided?
spheres, cubes, cylinders, cones, pyramids, and not hexagonal prisms or dodecahedrons.
is it because the former forms are simply easier to imagine and work with?
this is purely philosophical curiosity. my autismo stem thinking wants there to be some teleological reasoning, though i'm pretty sure it doesn't exist.

If it looks like a sphere it's probably a sphere, if it looks like a box it's probably a box, if it looks like a shitpost it's probably a shitpost.
>>2717241
If you want a serious answer, try breaking down something into something simpler than cubes/spheres while still being recognizable.
This is probably just more funposting though.
God is dead, and we killed him. We are still slaves to mother nature however, and those shapes are the industry standard for teachers trying help students learn general art within a certain amount of time.
Does anyone know the title of this job position? It mostly involves one lead artist working with adults who are mostly just relaxing while making art, and I know it's not called an art teacher.
It's called art instructor.
>>2717245
even when it doesn't take place at a school? from what i understand this more of a thing where grumpy old people come to relax & mess up canvases
Art therapy?
Do I really need to know the muscles of the neck aside from the major ones?
It almost feels like a total waste of time that I'll forget due to lack of use.
>>2715345
No just learn the superficial muscles since they're the only thing that affects surface form. So for the neck that's basically just the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid.
>>2715349
Sounds good to me.
I'll probably whip out an anatomical reference book when I need to do hyper realism. I guess it's good to have an understanding of all of the muscles though.
>>2715355
>I guess it's good to have an understanding of all of the muscles though.
Not really. Deep muscles that never show are not very useful to know. Maybe it will heighten your appreciation of the body or make you feel like you have a more complete understanding of it, but in practical terms it won't actually aid your drawing or painting.
Learn the skeleton at least in basic forms (skip the details of each vertebra or the bones of the wrist), then learn the superficial muscles, then study from masters, photos, and life to see how those forms appear on the body and how they look on different body types, as well as how surface anatomy like fat deposits and skin are a part of the equation.
Color
brown, since its shit and you can't type more than one word
does /ic have some recomendations of haw to use social networks properly?
The more often you post the more likely it is you'll get followers. Unless you're really good at what you do, you may have to deign yourself to drawing fanart to get followers. Interact with your followers, follow other artists and interact with them, just uh. Network, y'know.
>>2715979
Basically this.
This board is full of purists who shit on 90% of what networking and self-promotion entails though, so be careful. You'll inevitably get some people who will just say "just git gud ;)" but I've seen plenty of artists who are fantastically skilled and have almost no following because they don't 'play the game'. They post their art in big dumps now and then, hardly tag it, never interact with anybody, etc.
Study and emulate the strategies of other successful artists.
Has anyone here ever been a nude artist model? Or has anyone ever had to sketch out a live model for any classes? Did it help with your ability to draw the human form?
>>2714580
>Has anyone here ever been a nude artist model?
No, though I modelled clothed once when a model didn't show up (we took turns).
>has anyone ever had to sketch out a live model for any classes? Did it help with your ability to draw the human form?
Yes I've gone lots and it's helped a lot. I recommend you study some anatomy and learn basic observational skills first at home before going to life drawing though or else you won't get that much out of it.
>>2714582
I kind of want to try nude modeling but I have no prior experience to modeling in general. Should I start out doing regular clothed modeling first?

p-post picks so we can g-give better a-a-advice
I made this a few years ago.. what do you guys think? I'm still improving from this, I haven't gotten around to actually painting yet, as I don't have the space just yet. ^~^

Oh wow, you drew an eye. So did everyone else who's ever called themselves an artist.
Ask yourself this question. What separates my art from the masses? What do you have to give to the world?
Next time, try drawing the full face.
Lol, okay. I've never called myself an artist, but I have drawn the full face, and found, I'm not very good at it. Let me find it for you.
Let's discuss the gorgeous detail that Gustav Dore put into his work. pic related.
>>2717113
>such a lovely place
>such a lovely face
>>2717113
OP here. When I said pic related I meant the artwork itself not the story about a nobleman murdering his wives
>>2717113
I saw a big exhibit of Dore a couple years ago and it was really mindblowing. He actually did a lot more than just the images people know him for--he was a master of oil paintings (illustrations, landscapes, fine art, biblical scenes etc), he did sculpture and other design work as well. Really impressive artist, and incredibly incredibly talented. There was a pen sketch he did from his head at age 12 that was better than any drawing posted on /ic/. I'd consider him possibly the most naturally talented artist of all time, like he may even have surpassed the natural talent of people like Sargent or Van Dyck or Bernini especially when you consider he didn't have the intense schooling those guys did.
One thing they mentioned at the exhibit though is that he didn't do all that fine detail work that people praise him for in his engravings. Basically he would do the drawing and composition, but in pencil on paper, and he would do these somewhat loose and without any dense hatching, it was essentially loose linework and then maybe he rubbed a graphite block around a bit for the shadows and tones in large masses. These were then given to specialist engravers who translated it into the thousands of tiny lines and details.
Now he may have done some engraving himself, I'm not certain about this because online most places seem to credit him (incorrectly likely) and not other engravers. I'm inclined to think that it was mostly other artists who did the engraving though when you consider how time consuming each one is and the fact that he published numerous books each with like 500 illustrations in them. After having seen that exhibit though this fact doesn't diminish him at all, in fact I left the exhibit with way more appreciation for him than I walked in with.
Or are you still wanking around behind your computer?

Fuck off

>Or are you still wanking around behind your computer?
*fap fap fap*

Clearly you haven't, you're stilling copying other people's work. Professionals are sought for thier creative, not for some meme recall ability.
Freelancers, have you ever turned down a request for political reasons?
>>2716785
Please don't do this to Caspar David Friedrichs work... it's awfull.
Did you know? Andrew Loomis was a WW1 veteran.
the more you know
i did know that anon.

but hes white
What do you guys think of my drawing?
>>2716867
it looks cool. I would buy it
I'm at that point when I realize that people who want to print things, don't draw small and that they draw pretty big most of the time,
and this is overwhelming to get used too.
I was used to drawing at 100 zoom, but now I zoom out to around 25 to 66.7 zoom when I draw and that leaves me with a pretty big drawing.
I just want to know how to resize these massive files I'm drawing.
Is there a trick to resizing?
>>2716829
What do you mean?
the file or the canvas
>>2716829
bloooooooooog?
What are you even asking, you fucking BR?
How big the image should be?
Take the format you want and multiply it by the PPI you want
What do you all think?
