Trying to draw from a shite photo for my friend. Did small sketch on graph paper, for to make bigger on bigger paper to transfer to canvas.
Old school hand grid system, aint got no fancy computerz stuffs
Figured i would clean it up sketchwise on the bigger paper.
Any help would be great, a separate set of eyes is wonderful. I am very out of practice in portraits anymore ><
Photo and first sketch in comments
First sketch
Also, i didn't realise the op pic would load on its side like that...

This guy makes 4K a month on patreon. With about 5 illustrations a month, each one with facial and other hentai variations.
How are you doing on patreon?
Tips on building a fanbase?
>>2702995
literally who
>>2703013
It's "Fuya" on patreon
>>2702995
Her neck is completely dislodged from her torso.
I've been pondering.
Why is there no website that requires a portfolio submission to register and gain entry as a member, allowing you to then build and share your portfolio among the rest.
This would certainly weed out all the amateurs and intermediate artists that pollute the archives.
I guess I'm not the only one that's just tired of DA and the shit storm of latest posts. Mostly because anything that is good most likely will not be discovered among the shit hawks.
>>2714517
There is. It's called life.
>>2714518
wow this is very disappointing.
>>2714517
The now defunct ArtSpots, which was a sfw furry site had a, rather from what I heard strict portfolio requirement for artists to sign up
I hear that that was one of the reasons why it went defunct
My fucking pen decided to stop working. Basically the front button is permanently depressed which I had set to Alt so now it's like the alt button is always being pressed. I could just turn the button off but I use that button like a used up hooker and it will kill my workflow to not have access to it.
My problem is that I can't figure out for the life of me how to get access to the circuitry inside the pen. I guess you have to pull apart both sides of the plastic shell (they seem to be stuck together at the center where the black part is) but I've pulled with all my might and they seem to be either glued or locked together somehow. I can twist it back and forth about 2 milimetres both directions but that's it, so it seems to be locked rather than glued.
I have so much work to do HALP
Intous 5 pen just pulls apart. It sits REALLY tight with no glue. You have to be careful to pull along axis to not snap the board.
Pulled mine apart, got it together, no problems.
>>2714408
How did you get it open?? I've literally pulled on this stupid thing as hard as I can, all I can do is twist it back and forth a few millimetres.
>>2714433
Just pulled it really hard, while slightly twisting it.
Dumping my doodoo shoops
>>2713193
Please don't.
What would be some noticeable example of successful Art Portfolios that got artists their job ?
> Time to post your shit if it got you somewhere
>>2711979
depends for what you are applying
https://robinwouters.carbonmade.com/
How would you rate this guy ?
>>2711991
Really fucking shit. The guy might have some semblance of an understanding to light and colour, but nothing of the sort in form, shape or pespective. Lets not even go to anatomy. The guy tried to do too many things he didn't understand and its very obvious.
Anyone have these brushes? I want to dick around with them but no way am I paying $8 for them.
https://cubebrush.co/mb/products/z5ovjq-Tmh3
>>2710611
Mark Brunett is a con man who opened up his sister site to con idiots to buy brush packs and "tutorials" and basically you're fucking stupid. How? Because you post a pic of good foundation by teal whilst at the same time asking for "cheat" brushes. Why not just learn to be good like teal?
>>2710613
Who says I'd be using them to learn? Did you even read my post?
I never said I'd be using them as an academic tool, I said I'd be using them to dick around with... because I think they'd be fun to dick around with.
Are you autistic or something?
>>2710617
Why don't you learn to draw properly? Why are you stupid?
Some guy is going to sell me his cintiq companion hybrid for about $600, is it worth it? (keep in mind its the android tablet model, but can be plugged into a computer to be used like a 13hd)
>>2714523
Don't buy a Cintiq, idiot.
What are you thinking?
>>2714530
why not?
>>2714553
unless you really want a display tablet, a cintiq companion for $600 isn't worth it imo. you're better off getting one of those intuos that have larger working areas.
What do you guys think of manga studio 5?
>>2714028
It's pretty solid, like SAI on steroids.
But the extra things are only useful if you are publishing a weekly manga. Stick with SAI.
Also there's Clip Studio paint, which is what cool KIDZ use these days.
>>2714028
it's shit.
>>2714028
I really like it, it's the only program I use when I draw digitally.
this seems to be a light book but my mind is full of fuck. would studying scientific text books about color and light be helpful?
If you can't grasp a book on something simplified so any idiot artist with no scientific background can understand it, why do you think reading one written for academics would magically make it click?
If you had the understanding and wanted to compliment your gasp by going deeper I'd say it'd be helpful. If you already don't get it, it probably won't help you at all.
Scientific texts also have a different goal than art ones. They'll be telling you a lot of shit that isn't necessary for you to know as far as your art is concerned. It'll probably just make it more confusing if you're having to pick and choose what knowledge in the books is worth remembering.
>>2708283
>If you can't grasp a book on something simplified so any idiot artist with no scientific background can understand it,
yeah its so easy..
>>2708283
Not OP, but dude color theory is fucking hard, i dont understand any of this shit.
I dont want to have to do fucking math to paint a picture, i just want to paint. fuck

So I need help with this
I know this piece isn't so good and I'll post the reworked version next
I tought it felt wonky so on the corrected piece I used the proper tools to have straight and smooth lines
My biggest issue now are the small details, the lunar surface looks bland, the lunar base is too plain and the earth and sun look too cartoony.
What can I do?
>>2647708
this is the reworked piece, but I don't want to continue making the lines until I have any good details to add
What kind of pencil can get these kind of blacks that sargent had?
>>2714508
Im pretty sure thats charcol not pencil
>>2714512
i have some flimsy charcoal sticks that arent THAT black and just smudge everywhere, did i just get some shit/not use it right or do you think he used a diff kind of charcoal?
>>2714519
Compressed charcoal and charcoal pencils are that black. You probably have vine charcoal which is supposed to smudge you just aren't using it well.
I figured that I may have more luck asking this question here than on /g/.
I used to be into drawing, mostly digital, though I fell out of practice. In the meantime, I switched to Ubuntu which has left me in a tough spot, as it is near impossible to find tablet drivers for Ubuntu. I have a Genius EasyPen 340 if that helps out at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
>>2713878
https://digimend.github.io/ see if there's any info here that can help you
alternatively, get yourself a wacom and apt install xserver-xorg-input-wacom
alternatively, fuck off to >>>/g//fglt/
>>2713891
Cheers man, you have a good one.
>>2713878
The drivers for wacom tablets are now pretty much used for all tablets, so try using that one first.
apt install xserver-xorg-input-wacom could just work, dunno, your ubuntu.
Hi nig nogs, I don't know if this is common knowledge but I found this download tool for google art project which allows you to download the full res image. Just wanted to share.
>inb4 shill
http://gigafineart.herokuapp.com/gcidownload
(no child porn or malware, promise)
>>2713374
I just use https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Google_Art_Project_works_by_artist
>>2713378
I found it doesn't have nearly the same quality in reproductions in some pieces.
For instance;
https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/asset/the-blue-mandarin-coat-the-blue-kimono/4AFWXYLAHx8wnA?ms=%7B%22x%22%3A0.5%2C%22y%22%3A0.5%2C%22z%22%3A11.99960754753595%2C%22size%22%3A%7B%22width%22%3A0.24277455957964217%2C%22height%22%3A0.1259873465179443%7D%7D
Has a resolution of 5863x6820 where as the same piece on commons is a measly 975×1190 with the lighter tones blown out.
>>2713385
Neat I just tried the website and got a nice 12k pixel wide Remington. This could waste a lot of my time in a good way, thanks!
>Can barely trace an ellipse from my arm with the pencil sticking straight up into the air
>Can do it just fine when I rest my hand on the paper and allow it to stabilize my hand
Is this an issue of co-ordination, or is it a matter of practice?
jesus fuck
arm drawing is ok for long lines with a real pencil, but i'm so fucking scared of sucking that I've never gotten decent at it at all with a tablet. and now that I manly only sketch in traditional ... :V
this is hard shit, woman
i appreciate your boldness exploring it
>>2714381
It's really not all that hard. Tablet from the arm is how I've trained myself.
It's actually easier with a pencil in spite of this though. I constantly screw up, but at least with digital I can keep going until I have something I'm satisfied with.
>>2714361
Practice
That practice sheet if moronic though
