Hey, I started graphic design yesterday and I made this quick logo. Any advice for beginners and how does the logo look?
shadow is useless in a logo, it has to be easily scaleable without much detail loss, other than that it just looks like a m&m, did you create the letter?
unoriginal
lacks usability as a logo
>>281242
>unusable
Graphic school kid with no real world experience.
>unusable.
If a client wants something that goes against your design rules are you going to refuse the project? No. If clients wants a stupid shadow then he gets it, and if it's a small to moderate business (usually is) than no one will care if you use a free font on their logo project.
Because fuck your stupid rules, I design for $
OP here, I made a rework of the original design, and as doing graphic design for like a day now, this is the best I could come up with. Any thoughts?
Hi, guys, Im having a problem with a logo here. Im kind of newwith this logo thing.
Wel I have to make a logo for a restaurant (a popular restaurant, not an elegant restaurant), the problem is that the name of the restaurant is "Puerto Seguro" (Safe Harbor in spanish) and the problem they have is people think that thanks to the name people thinks that they sell sea food or fish, but they dont.
The client wants me to make the logo to kind of solve this problem. Any idea of where can I start? They want the name of the restaurant to be on the logo.
what is their best selling menu item or the most common type of food they do sell? base the icon in the logo around that.
Wtf, why would they pick such a shitty name. I would definitely think that is seafood.
But for you OP, like the first poster said. Incorporate the most popular food item into the logo.
I'm guessing you suggested they change their name? It's not about a logo, it's about branding, an identity. If the name communicates something you're NOT, you're definitely doing it wrong.
How does one change the skin color of a 2D character? I've tried using the Select By Color tool, after which I've used paintbrush to paint a skin color. The end result hasn't been as good as I hoped, which led me into thinking that there's a better way of doing this.
Pic related is not made by me, but works as an example of what I'm trying to accomplish.
Here's the original
Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm using GIMP.

Post whatever you want critique'd, I made something real quick when I felt sad

redesigning the logo for a start up i work for. Its called The Ideas Maker but we go by the acronym TIM. The old logo was not that great imo so they asked me to change it and my concept was to symbolize it. Since our company symbol is a lightbulb (because Ideas=lightbulb) i desided to make a light bulb with the inner parts of it spell out TIM like the inner workings of a lightbulb and this is what i came up with.
Also i know i'm shit at this but dude what the fuck is that? how sad were you?
>>272626
It's clever but has too many small parts. (try scaling it down and see how it doesn't work as a small icon)
Also the word TIM is very hard to read, I wouldn't have figured it out if it wasn't in the filename.
I like the idea though.
>>272626
The concept is not bad, it's the execution that's letting you down. Don't worry about creating an anatomically correct version of a lightbulb, focus on the readability of TIM. That should be readable when printed 1x1cm. And fix the type dude.
>enter public-chosen logo contest
>everyone votes for the ugliest ones
>faggot who put a random texture clipping mask on some letters got the most votes

Logo contests are a scam
>>282078
You deserve it for giving your time to spec-work/contests.
>working with plebs
Also, do you have a copy of what the public chosen?
Anyone good at pixel art here? I want some feedback. I want to get good at this.
Thanks.
I dig it, what software did you use?
Nice colors and textures
The brick pattern on the left of the door is annoying
Work on smoothing your edges.. Anti-aliasing is an artform in itself
Nice, where are you learning from?
Aliasing and edges are problematic for me.
so I really dont know shit about printing but I invested in this printer(pic related) because of the reviews it got but to me it looks no different than any other printer ive used quality wise.
am I doing something wrong with printing? I print everything at 150 resolution but is there other settings I can use to optimize my print outs to the fullest? any help would be highly appreciated.
also is it possible to print things without a white trim around them? as in, print them out to the size of the entire page? I tried borderless printing but had no luck.
Did you install the drivers?
Are all of your photos/documents in CMYK?
Are you printing on good quality paper?
Are you actually selecting the proper paper type in print settings?
Are your application print settings conflicting with the driver settings?
Have you cleaned/aligned your printheads?
There are honestly so many factor in print that it's hard to really tell you what you're doing wrong, if you're even doing anything wrong at all. It's not an exact science, even the most expensive printers on the market will print the exact same picture slightly differently each time.
Also, check the features on your printer. Unless it explicitly says you can print borderless, checking the box won't actually do anything.
>>281959
Did you install the drivers?
yeah
Are all of your photos/documents in CMYK?
yeah
Are you printing on good quality paper?
eh i mean its card stock but regular paper yields the same results
Are you actually selecting the proper paper type in print settings?
this could be the issue because it defaults to glossy no matter what. if im using regular stock paper the option for it is greyed out
Are your application print settings conflicting with the driver settings?
in terms of settings like bleed? its possible. I always use a 0p9 bleed which shouldnt be an issue because its industry standard isnt it?
Have you cleaned/aligned your printheads?
yeah. just recently in fact
it does say i can print borderless and ive seen people print borderless in reviews for this specific model. I found the setting for it but it crops and rescales whatever im trying to print to a smaller size. ive tried playing around with any settings i can find and it still gives the same results.
im honestly just trying to avoid having to trim white edges off every document i ever print because its a time consuming pain in the ass
Would it be better if i format my resume/CV in a stylish way or should I keep it simple and formal?
>>281870
It's been said a bazillion time here : simple and formal.
Simple. Black and white, no logos or wordmarks, no fancy alignments or display fonts, no infographic shit, no QR codes. Standard, plain-ass .docx file unless specified otherwise.
Leave the experimentation to your Portfolio.
What's the Photoshop effect that slightly softens edges to make shapes/text look less crisp? I know I read about it once but Google is only giving me shitty "MAKE A VINTAGE LOGO" tutorials.

interesting... ik on 3d its called anti-alliasing. maybe just blur and the un-sharpen tool + blending layers?
>>281550
guess you could just add a light blur and grain
>>281550
Select your object, shrink your selection by 1 or 2 px, and blur that shit.
Protip - CMD + Click a layer selects anything that's not transparent in a layer.
today was the first time i went into adobe illustrate with the intention of making something cool

Looks like some shit that people make when they get gimp.
Seriously though, did you even put any thought into this?
>>281350
I think its good
You showed light and shadow, scale, some dynamics. Space stuff is cool.

Can someone help me identify this font?
I see it alot it poster for pastries and sweets but haven't found which is it.
Lobster but it's considered a faux pas on the level of Comic Sans nowadays, I wouldn't use it unless the client specifically asks for it.
>>281323
newfag to gd here, but why is it considered bad? Because it's a recognizable font? Or because it's over used?
>>281403
Because it's become associated with bad taste after being randomly slapped on everything for the last few years
Hey I need the swirl photoshopped out because of reasons.-. Can someone help please

I have to make a poster for an indie rock band and their venue, could anyone help with some good references, or some themes?
>has a Modest Mouse feel
>maybe around 100-120 people
What would help:
>texture files
>references and inspo
>your own work, possibly?
>no stolen content
