To simulate reflection you need a lot of specular highlights and gradients that realistically cover the shape of a ball. The creatures could be distorted using simple warp in PS.

1. The top of the letter "S" is above the cap line of the letters following it.
2. Cap line of the "T" is also above the rest of the letters following (but not as much as the "S". The bottom of the "T" is below the baseline of the letters after it.
3. Why are the "R and "A" connected but non of the other letters are such as the "A" and "N" or the "G" and "E"?
4. The top of the "T" is above the the capline of the rest of the letters in "THINGS".
Do you think it looked better if everything lined up it is it just me?

It's optical correction. Curved caps generally rise above and below flat letters. "R" and "A" are kerned closer to even out the counterspace between letters, because the touching ends are sloped. The "G" has had the left edge flattened for the same reason.
So, no, it wouldn't look better.

What would you say are the most helpful Photoshop tutorials? I'm not new to the program, just looking for more techniques that would come in handy for photos and graphics. Most of my knowledge comes from techniques that stuck out to me while following a random tutorial.
Using gradients, creating shadows, masking, adding noise, overlays, etc.

hi im making a website but i'm making it retina friendly. i've got the jist of it, make the image double the size, set it to be one size on all screens in the coding. my only problem is the fact that when i upload it to a image hosting site it is never retina quality thus not being able to be retina quality on the website. are there any image hosting sites which dont reduce the quality?
also i assume when im making artwork on my retina display mac i dont have to double the size as it is already doubled? - i assume this because whenever i paste an image into photoshop it is half the size so i assume it would work the other way?

if you have no experience with editing, i'd suggest using SVP for a bit before jumping into AE. AE is a pretty advanced program for beginners. or just look up a tutorial and practice some effects on stock footage and shit.

You can either just fill it in in MS paint with the color picker tool. Or you can alternatively use the heal tool. A combination of both might yield good results as well. So heal away the word (like in pic related that I did on my phone) then use a semi opaque free form box with the same color as the red used in the sign. Use feathers edges so it doesn't look too artificial.
