Hey, I started graphic design yesterday and I made this quick logo. Any advice for beginners and how does the logo look?
shadow is useless in a logo, it has to be easily scaleable without much detail loss, other than that it just looks like a m&m, did you create the letter?
unoriginal
lacks usability as a logo

>unusable.
If a client wants something that goes against your design rules are you going to refuse the project? No. If clients wants a stupid shadow then he gets it, and if it's a small to moderate business (usually is) than no one will care if you use a free font on their logo project.
Because fuck your stupid rules, I design for $
OP here, I made a rework of the original design, and as doing graphic design for like a day now, this is the best I could come up with. Any thoughts?
Christ, are you even trying?

if you just started you shouldn't be on the computer already. read first, learn to sketch and then learn the programs.
its fine to just mess around with programs but people jump into them without knowing dick about graphic design then they wonder why it seems like they are just guessing on what to do and where to put things.

You might have an idea of what graphic design is, but it's probably not what it actually is.
I'd suggest you learn how to think, graphic design is more than an art.
Try reading some books.
Any good books that you recommend?
