It's mine and my partners anniversary very soon and I've seen this sort of thing run around a few times before. I was wondering if you guys would be able to write on a piece of paper 'Hi Catherine, George has reached all the way to ...... (your country) for you' I know it's pretty fucking gay and corny, but I don't have much and I think she'd really appreciate. Thanks! Figured as there's people from literally everywhere on here, I'd get some wild countries.

Any anons been to Ethiopia?

I have about 6 months of time to kill and I need to find an interesting place where I can travel around and spend very little money/ do workaway stuff, and I know that Ethiopia, being the afaik only African country that was never colonized, has a pretty rich culture and history, even though its pretty poor nowadays, but should be safe enough for someone with a bit of experience traveling.

Has anyone done couchsurfing/ workaway-ing there? If so how many opportunities are there to work for food and a place to sleep and what work would I expect to do? I havent got an account at the moment but Ill get one when I know for sure Ill go.

Also what other countries are must see in the region?
My parents have been to Kenya some 25 years ago and absolutely loved it, so I guess that could be a destination for me as well.
South Sudan and Somalia are probably still too dangerous to be worth it?
Would 6 months be enough time to make my way down to Mozambique or even Madagascar? I know africa is a bitch when trying to get from point A to a specific point B, so Im not even sure.

Only did stop-overs in Addis on the way to South Africa.

I absolutely love the pricing of Ethiopian Airlines. A return from Stockholm to Addis can go for as little as 415 dollars. 7hour and 30 minute flight.

How the fuck can you go through life being such a poorfag? Jesus if you collected welfare in any Western country you could stay in fancy hotels and eat restaurant every day in Ethiopia.

Like do you honestly have no self respect? Can you not live at mom's and wash dishes at TGI Friday's for a few months until you scrape up $1200?

I'm bored of my bag and want to buy a new one, but I can't find any real justification because my current one is pretty GOAT. Perfect size for carry on, barely fits in overhead but fits. Carries all my shit. 45L. Help convince me mine is shit and suggest a new one?

I'm an ESL teacher living in Moscow, almost at the end of my first 1 year contract here. I'm wondering where I can go next. I do want to earn some money at my next job, but I figure I can work a few easy contracts elsewhere then try for somewhere that needs experience and pays well.

My options are:
- Go somewhere where I'd work a lot and get decently paid for it right now.
- Somewhere where I could work a little, pissfart about, relax and travel.
What are your recommendations?

Also, general TESOL/ESL/EFL thread.

What are your credentials? A friend of mine with a master's in English went to South Korea on a TESL gig and wound up as an associate professor at Sejong University. Now he's teaching at a private high school in Beijing.

Pure financial reasons with looking at your job alone. Korea>China>Japan>SE Asia.

However with private tutoring you can make good money anywhere. Korea is polarizing, you'll either love it or hate it. I typically hear more consistently good things about SE Asia, Japan, Taiwan and China.

I saved $22,000 dollars past two years Korea. Had an absolutely wonderful time too. Gonna use that money for grad school. Starting my masters in teaching this fall.

Hi trv/, my GF and I are going to London and Edinburgh. Any advice on interesting things to do, see, shop?
Interests:
- Museums
- Music: I plan to go to a classic rock memorabilia shop, maybe get a couple vinyls. My GF likes britpop. Any ideas?
- History: any old castles nearby? specially in Edimburgh (besides the city castle).
- Food: trying local and ethnic food are a must in our trip, any good places to go?

We are taking the Caledonian overnight train from London to Edimburgh and back. Anything to keep in mind?
We will be 6 days in London and 2 in Edinburgh.
Thanks.

Camden is an interesting place to go in London. Lots of old record shops and a thriving alt-scene.
If you want castles, take the train from London down to Kent, it's only about an hour. There's a shitton of castles around here, old Kings used to build them so they'd have a place to stay the night before setting off across the sea to France.

I recommend Leeds Castle. The grounds are beautiful and they have peacocks and shit walking around.

wassa gwanin?

Can't say much for London except the Natural History Museum is worth a look! Fuck off the Tate and saatchi gallery, check out the statue of Eros (You old romantic) Do the touristy shit if you're not too cool for it. Get your girlfriend a little something from Harrods or Selfirdges. Mong about oxford street, see a show its fucking London man get amongst it.

Edinburgh is great all the time, Check out the Camera obscura (its at the top of the royal mile on your way to the beloved castle), best views of the city are from Calton hill (hope you're good at walking). Get a baked potato from the baked potato shop, (this is classed as local cuisine and street food you, are you satisfied you fucking hipster?). Do a spooky Edinburgh vault tour and bang your gf in one of the graveyards where J.K. Rowling stole the names of all her harry potter characters from.

Stirling isn't far from Edin and is worth a look for it's castle and it's a nucleus of Scottish history.

Good luck, godspeed and try and upgrade to first class if it's not too expensive, free tea and biscuits my man.

Can I get a list of locations in the US that consist of small-ish but functional towns with a good amount to do while still not being far from nature? I'm thinking towns where you can see trees/mountains right outside of it such as Washington NJ, or Easton PA (but safer/cleaner); preferably on the east coast, but anywhere is also fine.
Thanks!

Hi /trv/,

I'm planning to go overseas for 7 weeks (Asia, Middle East and Europe). The last time I went was in 2013 with my Canon 60D and Sony RX100. I found that I was mainly carrying a camera backpack and used my Canon 60D and phone.

I just bought a Canon 80D, is it worth me selling the Canon 60D and Sony RX100 and get a GoPro HERO5 Black instead and using a sling camera bag for the Canon 80D for more versatility when I'm in India? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

It's simple as that:
If you earn good money from your photography/videos or it's a die hard hobby go for it.
If you just snap shots for friends and to brag on social media you overpack if you bring more than a ok tier phone cam like any iPhone 5/Samsung S5 or better offers.
>>
>>1220019

I don't earn any money from the photography/videos, it's more of me wanting to take some great quality photos.

I don't use Social Media at all and I have an iPhone 7. So is it worth bringing the Canon 80D and purchasing a GoPro Hero5?

Thank you for your help so far!
>>
>>1220359
You have a iPhone7 with a great camera that should be good enough for quality shots, just make sure to clean your storage by uploading your pics to a cloud service when ever you can...
The 80D is only worth it if you're okay to carry 3-5 lenses for the special shots you can't take with anything else. If you shoot with the kit lens or a 18-200mm tele in auto mode it's a waste of time and baggage.
>a good pic is 95% skill of the user and only 5% the used equipment

On the GoPro, if you have a actual use for it beside your trip go for it, else your phone is good enough for the job. You better spent the money from selling your old stuff on upgrading your trip.

greetings /trv/

I am planning a journey through the Cordilleras this summer, I have 40 days to travel to/through the following cities:

Santiago
Mendoza
La Rioja (passing through only)
Tucumán
Salta
Tilcara
Santa Cruz
Cochabamba
La Paz
Juliaca (passing through only)
Cusco
Ayacucho
Lima
Cajamarca (tentative)
Cuenca
Quito

I will do most of the trip by bus since this will be on a shoestring budget, but I'll probably fly through some parts of Peru and Bolivia because I don't trust the roads. I also plan on staying with friends-of-friends from Santiago to Cochabamba, the rest of the lodging will be either in youth hostels or generous hosts on couchsurfing. I am an avid enthusiast of street and nature photography, so I will primarily spend my time exploring the cities and countryside taking photos, and visiting interesting sites and museums in each city. I'm leaving myself one day to travel and one day to explore in each small city and two days for the large ones.

Any advice from people with overland travel experience? I speak Spanish so language shouldn't be an issue.

I can tell some about Peru.

The route you seem to be taking is OK to do it by land. Also that is dry season here so the real danger is pretty low.

Stay a little time in Puno, It's close to the most touristic places in the Titicaca basin and a mix of a lot of native cultures.

Cajamarca is actually living hard times, I don't really know if tour there really worth it save for the money.

I'd go for the Moche route, Trujillo and Chiclayo.

What about sex while travelling?
Is it different or easier to have sex abroad?
Are tour co travellers generally more open minded because they know that you are going to split the next morning and you wont see each other ever again anyway?
Give me your thoughts and experiences as this is a topic that is barely, if ever talked about.

So /trv/, I found out this place in Antarctica called the southern pole of inaccessibility, and what's there is an abandoned Soviet research station meant to house around 4-15 (I think) that was operational in 1958. I'd like to visit this place somehow but it is difficult. Very few have made it there. It's probably one of the most difficult locations in Antarctica to reach.
But I'd like to visit it. Although the station is buried under a few meters of snow, it would be great just to get there. If I had the money and the time. Who isn't fascinated by the unknown?
