So like most of you guys I was clueless about africa, all i knew was from unicefcommercials and likewise. Annyways i decided to check it out and ended up having a blast
From spain i went to morocco-mauritania-senegal-gambia-guinne bissau.
I started with public transport down to mauritania, took the train there, got a lift by some guys driving a truck down to gambia. In gambia me and a friend bought a tuk-tuk (pic.) Made it into a camper, traveled around and sold it in bissau. So now i'm wondering... where do i go next? I wanted to go even further south, but money and time is running out. I also wanted to know if some of you have to much time and are willing to look for cheap flights from west africa to europa in the next weeks. Dosn't matter where it lands in europa because there i can pretty much travel for free. So all tips are much apreciated. The reason i don't look to much my self is that 3g here is slow and expensive.
If people has questions about West africa, feel free to ask.

This is something simmillar I am planning. I will explore the tribes in Gambia and Senegal for my masters degree in law. Are locals ok? Public transport safe? I have experience only in Asia. Is it ok to travel alone?
>>

How much did you pay for tuk tuk? (eur/bucks)?
>>
>>1218020
yes everything is safe, stay out of the big hotels in senegambia. in senegal i recomend to only go with bushtaxi (vanbusses)because the private cars are shitty, (old french cars) go to fast and have allot of accidents. in gambia and kasamas trafic is safer again.
>>1218021
the tuk tuk costed €600, but shared it with a friend. also painted it, installed two madrasses and mosquitonet

ITT: tell about your experiences with cops. Which countries have the most chilled out/strictest, most supid cops in the world?

Share your funny stories, warn fellow travelers.

I'll start: a friend of mine was hitchhiing through Slovakia. Cops there became german-strict some years ago, but they are also corrupted.
He found 2euro coin on the ground, which became his sole monetary possesion. He put it in his sock for some reason. Then he was unlucky enough to be dropped on a highway and police appeared in a moment. The cop started the litany about it being dangerous and a fine he has to pay. Yet at the same time he pulled up a sleeve of his trousers, showing my friend he should put the bribe in his sock. My friend smiled happily and started fingering his own sock producing the coin. He extended it toward the cop who got trully pissed, but the other in the car started laughing a lot and they let him go in the end.

When I was in Mongolia, hitchhiking with a girlfriend we caught a bus of about fifteen cops going on vacation together. They sang us the national mongolian songs together and I sang them an old polish one.
>>

on the same trip in China we had quite a lot encounters with police. They usually have a single person in a team that speaks some low level english. When they check your passport and it's fine they become very friendly.
Once SWAT came to check us for some reason
Once I was tired of crossing a huge city ahead, so I asked the driver to drop us on the ring. In five minutes polce car appeared and took us all the way across the city
once they took us from the highway, brought to some police station, fed, made photos, explained painstakingly that we cannot be on a highway, bought some more food and left us on some lower road.
All in all chinese cops are cool for tourists and playing dumb is really easy there. The only problem is they film you afterwards (provided they speak fluent english). Filming, they explain what you shouldn't have done and ask if you understand. So cheating this way is somehow one-time action

Some nice police stories from Thailand

-Thai policeman helped me find a hotel, bought me lunch and paid for the hotel after I was dropped off at his station after hitching with some other police, who were also nice since they gave me a ride

-slept in a Thai policeman's house after hitching to some random town, we drank whiskey and he tried to whore his mistress to me

-stayed at a friends house and smoked weed every day for a week with the local police chief, he also showed me around the area a lot and bought me food etc .

I want to move around low-cost places for a year that are developing tropical paradises. conditions are:

>aren't shitholes
>speak English
>reasonable internet coverage or good solutions to get online
>can get there on visa-free or free-movement rights

Any recommendations? How many exist?

Parts of it are real shitholes but you can find a gated community.

How expensive is it really?

But it's on the absolute low end, I would say 300 CHF per day and person for a ok tier trip.
ok hotel, sit down meal, attractions and some drinking/going out.
If you plan to hit the meme bernese upperland attractions like Jungfrau from interlaken bring another 100 CHF per day as the mountain trains/cable ways alone will cost you that for a trip.

Air pollution. The air quality in Mexico City is disgusting, I feel physically ill every time I have a stopover there on the way to see my uncle. Buy a pollution mask and spend a day at most exploring the ruins and head straight for Vallarta or any other coastal tourist destination.

I'm a 24 year old fagot turning 25 this august, i am the optimity of a neat i hardly leave the house have no friends and hate my life, im going to sell my truck and probably get 10 or 14 k for it. Where should i travel to get myself out of my fagot ways? ill most likely be going by myself.

other than that, you could rent a scooter from a western guy, he doesn't require any driving license but a deposit at 2-3k NT$. just look up the intenet, he has his own site with contacts, called something "bikefarm" shit like that
Take your stroll through YangMingShan National park north of Taipei, its much easier to enter from Shilin Area.
Take a day and get your ass to Hualien where you have to take a rental scooter again costing 400-600 NT$ a day. Drive up the coast to Taroko National Park and enjoy your 3600 metres above the sea level lift.
Any questions to add?

No, I mean money-wise it sounds pretty good. At least you have the discipline to work that much, I should be doing the same thing...

So what I meant is that with 20k as a 21-year old is not a bad place to be coming from if you want to "run away".

You could basically go anywhere dude, depending on how long you're thinking that you're going to stay

If this is your plan for crossing the Middle East, I would strongly reconsider your entire fucking trip. It shows you have no clue about any political realities.

Has anybody used WWOOF before? Its a scheme where you pay an annual membership and you can organise to go and work on farms around the world.

It seems like a bit of a cash-grab by the organizers (hosts pay in as well) but it also seems like a decent opportunity. They run it in pretty much the entire world (middle east, cuba, NK, afghanistan and bits of africa are the only exceptions iirc).

I was wondering if anybody had tried it. I was thinking about taking a trip to Japan on it.

well, messed up the bold text but...

Created this thread to ask about jobs in China, ESLfag moving from cozy Japan to Urumqi for some adventure, but worried about company hiring me.

1) Is it common for Chinese schools to have semi-shit English over email?

2) Is it normal for companies to have you wait in country on a L (tourist visa) while the Z visa is processed? I'd rather go straight there than go back home.

3) Anyone have experience Urumqi? I used to work in Kyrgyzstan, so figured it'd be somewhat similar.
>>
I want to go to Urumqi too, but heard it's polluted as fuck
>>
>>1202865
glad someone made a new one

>>1202868
I believe asking anyone to come in on a L visa is symptomatic of a scam

I don't think you can go from an L to a Z visa while still in china, and I hear companies doing this are just trying to get illegal labour

if they have a job for you, they should just give you a letter of invitation and tell you to apply for a Z visa

what was kyrgistan like, by the way?

There's something I'd like to do in canada late next month, but I don't have a passport.

I am a US citizen, I've read that I can get into Canada with a US Birth certificate and ID, but getting back into the US requires a Passport

What exactly would the US government do when I show up back at the border requesting entry? Detain me? For how long?

Is there some kind of law?

I cant imagine them denying me entry considering I can prove I'm a citizen.

Just get a damn passport, you could literally have it on this friday if you go tomorrow and pay express fees
>>
old info, you need a passport 99% of the time

other than some lake in montana/alberta and a few buildings on the actual border in maine/new brunswick you need a passport
>>
>>1218778
Judging from what I've read it could take awhile, but I found some information about a "PASS card" which I can get cheaper and easier, so hopefully I can get that beforehand. I'll see what I can do.

I was just curious on how the hell the US could not allow me in even though I am a citizen, Id have to go to canadian officials and get them to deport me or something if that were the case.

What's the best Caribbean island for a family vacation?

We mainly want to see wildlife, both marine and terrestrial, but no scuba diving.

desu, thry are interchangeable. Ypir best valuw will be a Western Carribean cruise. Carnvial will likely be cheapest. Hitting Cozumel, Roatoan (Honduras), and Belize, in that order, will hit all of that. Also, Cayman Islands, if you do a 7 day, but they mostly have turtles, and Tortuga Rum and Cakes, which are all good, but not what you asked.
>>
>>1218547
>desu

what does that mean?

Thanks for the info though, this seems more like what we were looking for.

We don't really care that much for nightlife/party life and seeing plantations from a few hundred years ago, you've kind of seen them all once you've been to the east coast.

>We mainly want to see wildlife, both marine and terrestrial, but no scuba diving

Marine life without scuba diving limits you to picrelated or going to an aquarium. Unless your whole family use googles/snorkels ...?

As far as terrestrial wildlife, the Caribbeans isn't known for that. Most of the animals are very common (horses, pigs, dogs, chickens, etc...)
There are obviously more exotic animals out there, but those will be seen through organized tours (ie: visiting a turtle farm, visiting a monkey place), and literally 100% of Caribbean islands will offer such activities

What's your budget like? How old is your family, which country are you from and where have you been in the Caribbeans so far ? When would you wanna go ?
