Hello.

I’m going to Miami next weekend with my girlfriend. I’ve been there before, but I’d like to tap /trv/ for recommendations. Interests include awesome beaches, maybe one night out at a fun nightclub, architecture, and just overall nice, beautiful places to walk around and explore.

Side note: I’m a little worried about being there during spring break. I’ve heard it’s a nightmare. Like a fool, I’ve booked accommodations on South Beach. (Kicking myself for not realizing my mistake earlier) We like to party and everything, but not like college student, police standoff, fighting and garbage everywhere style.

If you have any killer restaurant recommendations, I'd like to hear those, too.

Tldr: How should I spend time in Miami with my gf?

I'm in SoBe right now. There's a lot of Chads and black guys walking around at night blasting music, but it's not anything too crazy. It's more of a mild annoyance than what you seem to be worried about, and the morning and afternoons aren't too bad.

I went to Bodega Taqueria y Tequila yesterday and their pork tacos were great. I also hit up Versailles in Cuba which was good (a lot of Asian tourists there though). Churchills was a cool bar, even on Mondays when they play jazz.

You can also do an Evergaldes tour if you haven't been, it's a good time to go since the mosquitos aren't out yet and the alligators are nearing mating season so they're all out looking to get laid. It's probably the coolest place I've been to in the US in my opinion (Pic related, I just wish the panoramic didn't fuck up toward the left cause that photo was tight).

In two weeks i'll be Mississippi (Jackson) and then in Alabama (Montgomery), Arkansas (Little Rock) e Georgia (not Atlanta, unfortunatly) for work (i'm from europe). What there is to see and to do in these states?

If you like beer, there's a company called Lazy Magnolia that's a local brewery to MS. I really recommend trying their Southern Pecan brown ale, and also sending me a few cases. Don't walk around barefoot!
>>
>>1224581

Little Rock:
In Little Rock, if you like hiking, there's a 2-3 hour hike up a 1100 ft hill at Pinnacle Mountain. Place is like 15 minutes drive from downtown.

Drinking - Lost 40 Brewing is good. Nightclubs are great on weekends. Nightclubs with extended liquor licenses stay open until 5am instead of just 2am.

Once in a blue moon there's a good concert at Alltel Arena but if you're into music you should check out the local bar live music scene. Unfortunately the bars are mostly spread out so do your research before coming. Use Lyft or Uber.

Lastly if you want to do tourist stuff, the whole complex around the Clinton Presidential Center is engaging. Presidential Libraries house archives of former terms but they maintain museum exhibits that the public can go and look at. The Clinton is one of the top 3 in the system imo.

Less familiar with the other cities but i concur with >>1224659 on Lazy Magnolia. While you're in Georgia see if you can find Sweetwater beer out too (their brewery is in Atlanta).

Hello, I just want to kill my self and finally end all suffering.

I regularly travel for free as an air courier. The turn around times are short but I usually have a day or two to explore my destination city. Part of the appeal is the journey itself. I enjoy the environment of the airport and relaxing on planes. I feel extremely lucky to have my job. However the industry has shrunk massively in the past 2 decades.

One small but memorable thing for me was when I went to a non-New England state for the first time (I’m from Toronto area). When I stopped to get gas in West Virginia I was kind of confused about how to do it, I think the pay at the pump machine wasn’t working. I go inside and say to the cashier “I couldn’t pay at the pump and I was just hoping I could pay here” she responds in a thick West Virginian accent with “Sure, these darn computers always seem to be messing up. Sometimes I wish I could just take my AR-15 and shoot these gosh darn things, but apparently that’s frowned upon.” I laughed knowing she was joking.

But I still find it hilarious that the first conversation I had with someone in that state about them bringing an assault rifle to work and shooting something

I am an American student that overstayed by 90 days in Spain (Schengen area). Planning on staying here for 5 more months. Renting an apartment at the moment and landed a short-term contract job today. I am obviously not legal but I was wondering if there was any way I could make an exception for that....

I have a working holiday visa for Ireland which is obviously not the same but it's in the EU.

I don't know what to do.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

That's a really good question. It's a bit of a long story, but I had breakdown in my life of some sorts, and took a year off of school. I am not looking to settle permanently. Just want to work in Spain to provide for my basic needs (rent, food, etc) and get my life back together (mentally speaking).

I just want to work in Spain short-term.

Congratulations on picking a country with 40% youth unemployment, OP. I guess its true what they say about illegals - they really don't send their best, do they?

Jokes aside, go home. It will be a lot less stressful than living illegally in a dysfunctional economy.

Hey y'all where should i go for spring break? I want something off path, but still has large parties. I was thinking Cartagena, but am open to suggestions. Cost isn't an issue as long as its reasonable.

I don't really have the funds for a feasible spring break this year, but next year I'm considering South Padre Island
>>
Spring break sucks if you're not really good looking.

Cartagena is great if you're into whores or cocaine, otherwise give it a pass. Also incredibly fucking hot and humid there, day and night.

Playa del Carmen could be cool, there are large parties there every day of the year and it's not exactly shitheadville like cancun. Stay at Yak hostel. I don't know what it's like during spring break though.

Im kinda average looking, but 6'3. If its dark out or their drunk i can usually land hotties

im a mid-20s european who just got accepted for an exchange semester in beijing.
i really dont know what to expect there, i mainly applied there because ive lived in australia, europe and north america before and now really wanted to live somewhere outside of my comfort zone.

other than backpacking through laos and cambodia for several weeks i dont really have experiences with asian (and especially chinese) culture.

- what can i expect especially in regards to nightlife and girls? im really into clubbing. and im single
- is the smog bad for my long-term health even though its "only" 4 months?
- im 6'1 with dark hair and beard, will i stand out a lot there or are people in beijing used to westeners already?
- is english enough to get around somehow, or what is the best way to communicate with someone in a restaurant, cab-drivers etc.

thanks!

Old expatriate here.
You just gotta learn the easy terms like calling a cab and other expressions. A lot of people talk basic english at least.

Theres a shit ton of foreigners.

I lived there in 2010 so no idea about fog now. I remember there being a lot of sandy winds from the gobi desert however.

Plenty of foreigners, especially around the wudaoku area. Be aware of chinese women coming on to you to easily at the bar. just make sure that you are getting served real alcohol. also keep in mind that alot of the food products there are expired, they had plenty of stuff imported thinking the 2008 olympics would bring in plenty, but they never really sold all of it

-the price of the appartments (I hear that you can easily be scam)
-Are they racist/ean with foreigners ?
-ect ...

Thank you for answering me

Cluj is a flourishing cultural town, considered to be one of the best in Romania.
Depending on where you're coming from - if France:
Cluj is 30 times safer than any place in France. The only way to lose your wallet is probably if you get too drunk from the cheap booze. There are plenty of foreigners and people are really friendly. Most of all respect that town if you want it to respect you. They might know french even, especially older people, but if you show any french arrogance towards romanian people you're in for a treat.
>>
British lad who spent some time in Cluj around a month ago.

>Cheap like super cheap compared to the UK. Maybe 3rd of the price
>No crime at all. Felt very safe everywhere I went (and I was getting drunk some nights)
>Food is a little meh compared to Western standards
>google this but they are cheap
>not racist at all I am half black half white and went with around 4 white English lads and 4 Black English lads and we didn't have any problems what so ever.

An amazing city and the Romanian people are a great group. I truly love that city and would love to spend more time there. You are a lucky lad.

Hey /trv/ Amerifag here.

I have always been fascinated with travel, and I am itching to finish up this semester of university and save up for my first international trip. But seeing as I've lived in the United States all my life, only ever leaving to go to Quebec City once, It's safe to say I don't know shit.

Because I don't know shit, I would like to ask a couple questions to my /trv/ anons from around the globe.

First, I have to ask about the general opinion of Americans around the world. I'm curious to know if people started to think less of us because of our current representation in leadership (Trump). Personally, I don't care too much though, because politics is a meme, but I know people think Americans are hot headed culturally insensitive idiots. And I doubt recent happenings have done much to ease that stereotype.

Second, I'm from Massachusetts, I feel like I have a standard American accent and not the accent that everyone in a 50-mile radius of Boston has in every movie ever. Where will I stick out like a sore thumb? Are there some places that like American accents? I only speak English, so I would like to not to have to prepare to be a citizen and master the language. But I'm willing to learn key phrases and conversational elements of a language once I decide to go there. The climate of Mass is pretty shit most of the year, so I am trying to go somewhere where It's not snowing during December thru January, since this is the time I am planning to take my trip.

Lastly, I'm mostly interested in going to Western Europe or now after reading a lot from /trv/ Korea, SEA, or Japan. But I'm a broke boy (shooting for a 2-2.5k USD budget for the whole thing) so Japan may be a stretch. My question is with Asia mostly but I guess Euro too, Do the locals (especially women) hate white pigus from the United States? Noticing a lot of people bashing white men specifically in my country, just because were white dudes and our ancestors were dicks I guess.

If you read all of this, thank you, I know it's a lot to ask and I'm a retard but what the hell.
>>
People don't care about your president, if anything they might like you now because of trump. Americans are a mixed bag, you don't seem like a dudebro so you might be okay. You seem kinda cucky though.

Do SEA, it's the only country you can do for a decent amount of time. Thailand is probably your best bet, a vast majority of the people speak english, there is western comfort food everywhere if you need it, but thai food is great and you can get a meal of pad thai from a food cart for $2 or so. Whites are fine in Thailand, they have so many tourists they actually like white people to a degree. As for the local women, you should have no dramas, and if you do there are plenty of ladies of the night around.

Depending on what you want to do, Thailand will have you covered, it's got a huge city, beaches and islands everywhere, jungle and the 'beaten path' up north.

If you are backpacking you can probably last 3-4 weeks on 2.5k, maybe more depending on how often you drink. Which if you are young I assume that is what you want to do. That also gives you a lot of money to travel around the country.

Let us know what you are looking for in your travels so we can help further.
>>
>You seem kinda cucky though.

Ahaha, most likely, I come from liberal Massachusetts.

>Thailand is probably your best bet.

Yeah, I thought so, seems most anons here have nothing but nice things to say about it. I really wanna see some ancient ruins and shit on the weekdays, and spend the weekends trying my luck in the city, was thinking Pattaya because Bangkok may be too many people for me, seeing as Boston has less than a million people living there. And I'm 19 so I'm obviously curious about whores because they're so taboo in the States.

>If you are backpacking you can probably last 3-4 weeks on 2.5k.

Backpacking seems very very enticing, but I have no idea what type of supplies or precautions I should take before doing so. Also, I would only want to be there for two weeks max.

>Maybe more depending on how often you drink.

How much does the average beer or fancy drink cost in USD?

And lastly what is the average size of people in this region? I'm 6'4" 260, and I feel like that'd be pretty unusual and maybe off-putting but I don't know.

South America in May, I have 9 days, where should I go that's fairly safe? (I'm coming from Boston w/gf) I was thinking Santiago but not sure what there is to do so maybe easter island? I really want to do Machu Picchu but nervous about the busses/trains going on strike again. I really want to go to Rio but hear it's a third world shit hole despite its beauty. Help me out guys, I'm breaking out in hives here.

Peru. Do the macchu picchu / sacred valley / cusco. Maybe you'd still have time to go somewhere like Huacachina after returning to Lima. For a 9 day trip nothing else really matches it in South America, unless you're going alone and want to get girls. The risk of strikes matching your dates is very minimal.
>>
La Paz definitely
>>

The Peru itinerary above is a real safe bet and good use of time.

Colombia is also worth considering given it's proximity to the States and being so cheap. It's incredibly diverse but would give some advice based on your interests.

Does anyone have good tips on trying to fly multi-city? The plan is to go to Iceland for a week, and then go to Lisbon for three weeks. Most of the travel sites I've found handle this in the worst ways I can imagine, and the prices fluctuate between $800 and $5000.

My dad says I'm probably best off just booking my flight to Iceland and winging the rest, because flights are cheaper once you land in Europe (I'm coming from NY). Is that actually good advice? I'm looking at using Icelandairs stopover deal, but they don't fly to Portugal.

>>
>>1223890
Yea, multi-city from the same airlines are shit. Forget about them. Icelandair's stopover option is nice if you can use it. If not, just book your main flight to Europe, and once there use cheap airlines to get around. There are plenty.

If I were to visit SEA for 4-5 weeks and it might be my only time going to SEA ever, would you recommend going to Myanmar? I kind of want to do the Real Traveller thing I suppose, and it seems like its got some cool sights while not being overrun with tourists entirely....yet at least.

I'd probably do SIngapore as a stopover, and obviously Thailand too. Laos and Cambodia seem cool as well.

OP, if you want to be a 'real traveler' and visit SEA, go to Mongolia. Learn horse riding, fishing, eagle hunting, not many other tourists (except for July)

Did that and it changed my life.

Here is something interesting.

I live in the UK and this can be found on the first page of ones passport.

"Her Britannic Majesty's Secretary of State Requests and requires in the Name of Her Majesty all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance, and to afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary."

Here is what I'm thinking. This is essentially a royal decree, and violating such a decree would be treason in the UK.

So, If you have a UK passport and you are traveling within the UK. If you come up to a toll road like the humber bridge, then, they MUST "allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance" by decree of Her Majesty!
