I mean, he does make silly chocies, but to not show off all the gamblers box stuff would be turbo silly, not that he needs more money at this point.

7. In my LGS players are starting to get fed up with Modern, so they attend events to try their brews and have fun. There are still way too many tryhards taking their Jund or Infect to FNM's and such tho.

Also, what do you think about delay? Better or worse than Remand?

I'm going to assume that by "play to win" you mean "challenge my players" because you don't win D&D -- if you folks out there want to win a match against your friends, pick up a goddamn wargame already.

Now, if you want them to be threatened by powerful enemies and face death, you may be looking at an uphill battle if you're using 5e. 5e is not very lethal as D&D editions go -- what it calls a "deadly" encounter is one where one of the pcs MIGHT die, but probably not.
I'd recommend if not moving to a more dangerous edition (with your players consent, explain to them how the fight against that ancient black dragon felt lame to you because it was so easy) at least borrowing some bits from them.

One early D&D rule is that a dragon's breath attack damage is equal to its current HP, so it's ridiculously deadly to get caught in until the players can wear the beast down some.

Usually, when my players go up against something like this, I kind of eschew conventional battle mechanics.

For instance, in the campaign I'm running, I tasked my players with shooting down a starship in low-earth orbit. Instead of the fight being summarized as group vs. starship, I had them find different ways to damage vital parts of the ship until I was content that it would be damaged enough to fall out of the sky.

There were no health points to keep track of, nor damage, since the ship wasn't attacking them directly. I simply let the fight drag on, and Rule 0'd and cheated my rolls like a son of a bitch. It worked out rather well.

A tip I give to GMs is to not let yourself get fucked by the system. You have more intimate knowledge of an encounter than players, so feel free to bend the rules if it means having a good time and giving your players a challenge.

Maybe you could have encounters with monsters that aren't on the hunt when players encounter them. For example, they could be wandering in the wilderness and stumble upon a monster building a nest, drinking from a pond or basking in the sun at the edge of a clearing. Something to show that slaughter isn't the only thing the monsters do.

Tension is a useful tool for a DM, but overuse can dull the players, and they'll begin to anticipate it.

Nothing wrong with using description -- environment, sounds, smells, sights, and so on -- but too much build-up can start to build tension, and it may tip players off. At best, you'll be predictable as a DM.

Surprise can be fun.

Use descriptive anticipation

As for plots...you'll get better with more experience. Run some AP's to get a hang for putting a story together. Make a list of plot hooks to get you going:

What are your favorite planning perks, and why are they your favorite? What have you used them for or what are you planning, hue, on using them for?

For Eclipse Phase, it says Ego Bridges can erase egos, leaving an empty morph. Does this mean you can force someone into an ego bridge, wipe their mind, and then sleeve into their body? Would this work for a non-transhuman body?

Is there another way to wipe minds so they qualify for re-sleeving?

D&D 5E is perfectly fine for your first RPG. Some folks dislike it for grognardy reasons, but if this is your first go, it'll do right by you. Just keep in mind that although 5E is pretty decently put together, there are plenty of other systems that can do different play styles, genres, and mechanics differently or better in some ways than 5E.

Playing only D&D your entire gaming life is a bit like marrying your high school sweetheart. Honestly, yes, sometimes it works out--but there's a whole world out there to explore, and you might never discover what you're missing out on.

There are a couple ways to go about it, but generally I prefer to have, say, Skype or Discord in the background. OOC chatter goes to voice, in-character roleplay and GMing is done via text.

Have a campaign setting map set up in one of your pages. Have a 'limbo' where you can store character tokens, information, and other such things for when you need them. If your party has a base of operations, have a map of that as well, potentially customisable.

Make sure you have a lot of varied grid-maps ready for the region that the party is currently in. They don't have to be complicated, coloured lines will work, but personally I use a program called Tiled to pre-create sprite grid maps that have an undeniable quaintness to them, but are very easy and quick to create. Ideally you'll be able to set up a balanced fight in under 5 minutes. Have pictures and artwork ready to show for NPCs and locations - The latter is extremely helpful to back-up a written description and can really help establish a 'feeling'.

None of this means a damn thing if you don't have good players, though. Don't use the LFG function of Roll20 unless you're just looking for one or two replacement players, you need to establish a core from existing friends. A full LFG group will crash and burn in 95% of cases and that's a lot of wasted effort.
