Who are some memorable NPCs in your game(s)? I have two from the current game I'm in.
NPC #1
>Crazy Half-orc Inquisitor
>Talks really enthusiastically about his religion and is happy-go-lucky about everything
>Fights naked while flogging himself in the name of his god and telling his enemies to repent
>We once left a barrel of oil with him and he made us all lick it with him, since he deemed it being holy oil
NPC #2
>Blind kenku merchant
>This guy will always find our party somehow and try to sell us something stupid
>Tried selling us a rusty old dagger saying it was magical
>Picked up a random cat walking by and said it was poison and attempted to sell it to us
>Took out empty bottles claiming they contained poison and wanted us to buy from him
>>50959735
There was a shapeshifting fox that set up shop in a small town in the middle of the woods and sells magic items for super cheap, like 10% the cost, but as soon as they leave town, its illusion falls apart and turns out to be just a bundle of sticks and dirt. When they go look for his stall again, it's gone. The players caught him eventually and got all their money back.
Next time they were in the area, they arrived in "town", it was almost completely empty and all the vendors were selling everything at 90% discount.
They promptly left and found the real town several miles down the road.
>a pet store owner who desperately sold us one of our party members (a psychic goose) as he slowly broke down, before shooting himself as we walked away with the waterfowl
Wood Elf Druid who the party has nicknamed "Don't." Through a combination of decent rolls and the fact that or decently charismatic sorcerer can't really back up rolls with words has managed to shrug off ever seduction attempt from that sorcerer.
I don't know why they like her so much. but they do, and I am glad for it.
Have you done anything special for your players during the Christmas/New Years season?
I'm running a M&M game and last session I didn't reward power points after last session because it was their first battle. I'm thinking of dumping a (suspected) unintentionally overpowered item on the party. Like, something that interacts with someone's power in a *pretends to roll* beneficial way. I just can't decide which person should get it.
>Momentum manipulator guy, mostly amplification and nullification. No superstrength but extra durability.
>Girl with a summoned dragon-like creature that's extremely loyal to her.
>Woman who has bullshit combat precognition and enhanced acrobatic abilities.
>Guy who can temporarily make any object completely massless, including himself.
>Boy who basically has The Mark of Cain. Any damage done to him is returned seven fold. Also high-tier regeneration.
>>50957931
...is it just me or do Mr Massless and Momentum Man seem like they could pull some physics-based shenanigans together
>>50957879
I revived my campaign with a winter-themed adventure. Also painted figurines for my PCs.
SOMEBODY
>>50957717
Fuck off, [s4s].
>>50957717
The Hobbit trilogy was a mistake
>>50957717
woah that's a new miniature!
I don't know if this is /tg/ related but i would like to think it is but anyway
QM thanks for doing the hard work even though after all the bullshit we pulled (and yours too) throughout the year. You have been QM-ing us for 2 years and you still deliver the most hilarous yet sadistic nature of how khorne killed us. And yes i hate your sadism.
So Cheers to another year you sadistic bastard
Also my message for all (forever)QM out there. Good Work! Keep it up and may your group finish the campaign you started for.
>QM
>>50957415
Who the fuck is QM?
>>50957415
QMs work super hard. I miss mine. May the spectre of overwork pass them soon, the game was fun
newfag to this board...usually post on /o/
what game(s) get you the most tickets at Dave and Busters?
for me it's Yahtzee
wrong board mate, this is for tabletop games. not arcade.
>>50956614
This is what we do here bro. Come stay a little while so we can corrupt you :)))
>>50956614
I actually think /soc/ would be the right board? Maybe /v/, but you're not going to get anything from there.
So bear with me. When rolling to hit was originally concepted, it wasn't actually about accuracy. It was assumed that the soldiers you were playing were capable of swinging a sword and hitting someone with it, but whether or not that they could make that hit count was in question. Thus your roll was based of strength, and armor made it harder. Rather than add an entire accuracy system on top of that, accuracy effecting things were applied to that same roll.
So what if there was a system that just got rid of these concepts and let people hit, and focused more on modifying damage based on how people chose to fight.
For instance, players (and NPCs) assume a stance in combat (Defensive, Active, Agreesive, etc) and based on what stance the attacker and defender were in.
A further mechanic would be learning fighting styles that grant bonuses (likely based on what stance they were in).
Thoughts?
>>50954289
Sounds fine, I know of a few board games and vidya that do things that way.
My own personal favorites for that sort of thing are the ones where you're counting successes (or damage symbols) on the damage dice and it's possible to roll 0 damage, though that should be pretty unlikely past the first few levels.
Maybe also toss in something about different die sizes. Something like, if you do damage on 5+, d6s are easy to come by, d8s aren't too tough to get but it's hard to make them numerous, and anything bigger is quite rare other that maybe 1 from wielding big weapons.
Either way, you'd most likely want some sort of damage reduction to be pretty easy to get.
>>50954413
Eh, that starts sounding like Ironclaw Omnibus. Though, the zero damage roll is *intentionally* useful in that. Check, check, check on counting successes, rolling "0" damage with effects, graduating die sizes, big weapon advantage/disadvantage, damage reduction, etc.
>>50954289
you are basically copying the Mayhar homebrew systems. check Bazar du grenier aventures on youtube.
it works great

Damn near every /pfg/ thread
Reposting for exposure, BUT
I need some people to test a few combat encounter ideas with, and to get my toes wet with Psionics. How many of you are interested? It'd be a one shot or just a couple sessions, literally no meat or story, just helping a DM get familiarized with Psionics and how it compares to Vancian and Spheres of Power.
>>50954216
Right, some kind of heretical cult has rebelled in the next system over from ours, so sector military command is grabbing whatever military assets they can find so they can throw them at this rebellion, that includes the glorious fighting men of our home world.
So, what kind of fighting men are we?
(roll regiment origin)
Rolled 37 (1d100)
>>50953286
Well, the first was supposed to be a d10 but I guess we can do the regiment demographics first.
>Priesthood: They venerate the God-Emperor in his soldier's aspect.
So, we are composed of warrior priests, smiting the Emperor's foes as worship
Rolled 1 (1d10)

HAIL TEH EMPRAH!
How do you make a campaign campy and/or cheesy? In a Buffy the Vampire Slayer kind of way.
Teenage adventurers juggle secretly saving the world, a forbidden romance, and the struggles of daily life.
>>50949898
So basically just Buffy?Or teenage Justice League with a Batman/Catwoman romance for good measure.

Now I want to play in a Power Rangers setting. Any opinions on the new movie trailer?

Why did transformation magic become associated with fetishes in RPGs? The original stories about them usually depicted a transformation as something tragic, or even horrifying. I mean I don't think the Circe segments in the Odyssey are supposed to be read as a sex fantasy, and yet today that's usually what you see about polymorph type magic.
So what changed?
>>50941655
The "magical realm" meme.
Ancients
>she turns men into pigs so that she can eat them
Modern
>she turns men into pigs so that she get pig dick
Personally I blame this on our culture having a love-hate relationship with perversion, if we embraced it it wouldn't be forced everywhere.
>>50941690
Except for the copious cases of bestiality in Greek myth? People fucking bulls, horses and swans just to name a few.

From the previous thread;
>There's no "gets lost easily" either.
Mate, what do you think Incompetent: Outdoors does?
D&D 4e General
What did you like best about Points of Light, the default setting with the Dawn War and the World Axis multiverse?
If you are GMing, remember...
1. To strongly consider giving out at least one free "tax feat," like Expertise and pre-errata Melee Training.
2. To use Monster Manual 3/Monster Vault/Monster Vault: Nentir Vale/Dark Sun Creature Catalog math. Avoid or manually update anything with Monster Manual 1 or 2 math.
3. That skill challenges have always been scene-framing devices for the GM, that players should never be overtly told that they are in a skill challenge, and that the Rules Compendium has the most up-to-date skill DCs and skill challenge rules.
If you would like assistance with character optimization, remember to tell us what the what the rest of the players are playing, what books are allowed, your starting level, the highest level you expect to reach, what free feats you receive, if anything is banned, whether or not themes are allowed, your starting equipment, and how much you dislike item-dependent builds.
If you wish to talk about settings, 4e's settings are Points of Light (the planes and the natural world's past empires are heavily detailed in various sourcebooks and magazines), 4e Forgotten Realms, 4e Eberron, 4e Dark Sun, and whatever setting you would like to bring into 4e.
Useful resources: http://pastebin.com/85Hm56k5
Online compendium: http://funin.space/
I love the gnomes in the setting
Also the gods, the PoL gods are all great
Points of Light is a great framework for a roleplaying setting. I always think that with RPG settings the grey areas you leave are almost more important than the things you define, you always want the GM to have space to make up their own stuff, so settings which detail bloody everywhere can be rather confining.
>>50941402
>Raven Queen
>Bane
>great
Uh huh.
Kool-aide really got to you, huh?
Chaos aren't invading realspace. They're fleeing Doomguy.
Not possible. Nothing lives long enough to run away from Doomguy. There is only annihilation once he's been unleashed.
>>50939500
Hah, reminds of those ultrafags we fucked millenia ago. I'm not fleeing from that wussy faggot. I've got my shoulder-mounted heavy bolter and 10,000 rounds to go with it. Bitch better have some terminator armour if he wants to go toe to toe with me.
>>50939997
>The Chaos space Marine was found dead later that day, having choked to death from the hundreds of Bolter Rounds that had been shoved down his throat
>This actually had nothing to do with Doomguy, But was just rather the usual brand of Chaos Worshiper shenanigans
Good morning and welcome back to Ask A Judge!
If you have an effect that says "Skip your next turn/combat phase/etc", do they stack? Or does it all just skip the next available one?
Also, what rules govern this?
>>50926860
Is it true they changed back to the original block rotation because people couldn't wrap their heads around the new "two-set blocks" format?
>>50927690
All of them will WANT to apply, but only one of them can.
614.10a. Anything scheduled for a skipped step, phase, or turn won't happen. Anything scheduled for the "next" occurrence of something waits for the first occurrence that isn't skipped. If two effects each cause a player to skip his or her next occurrence, that player must skip the next two; one effect will be satisfied in skipping the first occurrence, while the other will remain until another occurrence can be skipped.
>>50927737
Not quite; they're changing back to one rotation per year (rather than two rotations a year) because the feedback they got from players is that it made Standard rotate TOO fast, and it was difficult to keep up, and made it really hard to jump back in if you 'lapsed' for even just a few months. Because the twice-yearly rotation was becoming a barrier to entry (and they want Standard to be their most approachable format), they revised it to only rotate once a year. It had nothing to do with the two-set blocks (which are considered a resounding success), but with the speed of the rotation.
